most 3d program what was use in movies are 3ds max,maya,Softimage, houdini and some other what will be usefull for some fx

How can anyone comment dissing on Houdini, even though they probably never used it in their life. I have been using it for a while now, haven't got the hang of it yet. But it basically does everything and how could you go wrong, $100 for Houdini Apprentice.

I know 2 people who are fx artist. They have worked on movies like tron, pirates of carib, how to train your dragon, etc...and they both say that houdini is the way to go. Maya is still big and is used for animations, but when it comes to rigging, and dynamics, they say houdini is where its at. Modeling in houdini sucks, but after a while, it gets easier to do. but the guys in the video are right, houdini is the shit.

Yeah right he wish its just for comercials but the reall 3d software is maya and max 3d, houdini is fun for home but in hollywood they ask maya not houdini..

@chrisedu no I am not ;).. I have 3 friends working in video domain and they uses maya for animation .. also a friend of mine is working on ILM and they use maya 2011.. for compositing they uses autodesk inferno or flame.. because maya can be set to hand other programs can't do that.. and I if u don't believe me look at the making of, in visuals effect's then u can see that almost everymovie in effects is build with maya.. do I have to say more ? please don't speak about something u don't know

@chrisedu and they ask this company to show houdini... and spiderman is not made with houdini hahah laugh.. all spiderman movie's is made with maya I have the making of ;).. even southpark is made with maya transformers is made with maya.. jurrasic park 2. 3 is made with maya.. the first is done in softimage.. and there is almost no movie from a big company made in houdini.. also lord of the rings is made in maya and auto desk flame ;).. go play with the kids now ;).. bye bye

@dreamerboy1231 One program can't do everything. Houdini has many advantages over Maya in dynamics, so they used it for dynamics. Just because you saw a "behind the scenes" doesn't mean you saw everything. Your display of ignorance really shows that you haven't a clue what actually goes on "behind the scenes."

@coltonmil ?? did u ever read what I saying ? or even what I mean ? I am an FX artist.. myself and I never said that maya is everthing.. Maya is a very great tool for animation and modeling and realistic render.. and also fluid effects and maya is way advantages than houdini.. read the fx websites.. maya comes also with a very high price.. houdini is more cheaper then maya.. but also that doe'sn't made houdini a bad software is a great software but for cgi I prefer maya. and I use real flow also

@dreamerboy1231 Oh my. I wasn't even goint to reply, but no movie is made with a single tool, be it Maya or Houdini. Houdini is _not_ for home use. (by the way, Houdini is 6,7k, Maya is 4k). It can do many things Maya can't, and Maya is simply a bit faster to work with for some other tasks (animation, modeling).

The Magic of Houdini by Will Cunningham and Houdini on the Spot:Time Saving Tips and Shortcuts from the Pros by Craig Zerouni. Both available online and in most larger bookstore chains. Around $29 each. A little out of date with Houdini 10, but if you're starting they're still good for a roadmap as a pathfinder way through basic processes.
