Its ok for the father to request that his son be returned. How long can an officer detain you b4 charging u? I think that would depend on the state. There are also child protection laws. No matter how crazy the police think the guy is, the father has the right to be present at the time of questioning of his child. There are also child protection laws. No matter how crazy the police think the guy is, the father has the right to be present at the time of questioning of his child. It is protection of the child, and the father, in case the police try to lead the kid into a desired answer.
