from the looks this sub is the pride of the city but thats not really a surpise its very close to what was once a very large u-boat base and I'm sure many there have relitives that we're in the u-boat service so the boat is a point of pride to them
If I am not mistaken this submarine was in Norwegian service many years after WWII and had the name ''KNM KAURA'' It was returned to Germany when Norway got the Kobben class in the 60's. I served almost 5 years on the Norwegian Kobben class submarines, also built by Germany, Germany build some of the best diesel electric subs.
Don't know if it is in better shape than the U505 in Chicago, but after years of being exposed to the elements they finally moved it indoors because of corrosion. This one looks better on the outside.
Billace90, if I dont miss my mark this u-boat has been there for nearly 40 years. I lived in La Boe in the late 70s and ealry 80's and that sub was already there and in the same shape. Amazing it has been kept in such a grate shape for that many years.
Thank you for this great video. However I think that such a jewel of a ship will decay and suffer more due to the elements, as it is not protected. I think it should be kept under a structure to avoid deterioration of the hull and all it's components. Thank you.
i've stayed in Kiel for 3 years, best three years in my life, i stayed in Mettenhof, i was a bit young, yet i haven't forgotten the nice, helpful people there, the smell of salty water, the Volkeswagon cars(passat) on roads, beatiful breeze and sun, beatiful shore of laboe and Stena line, i entered this sub-marine, i wish i can get to know you more, if you want to be my friend, add me, i am from Egypt, and i love kiel, and will love it forever
Der Alte Capitän der "LÖWE" genannt kniete sich damals vor sein altes U-Boot hin vor lauter respekt bei seinen ersten und letzen besuch seines alten U-boot
The U-995 as displayed really isn't in authentic wartime condition: it was taken as booty after the war and given to the Norwegians, so a lot of the gear on the ship reflects the 1950s Cold War era.
Still, for anyone interested in naval history, the Laboe Memorial and Museum is a must-see. Many well documented exhibits, and a very moving memorial hall to sailors who gave their lives.

We must respect all the brave sailor who fought on all u-boats because they fight and died for the son of a bitch Hitler. And this u-boat is history.

Very interesting. Enemy or not, it can't be denied that the U-boat crews were brave men, and deserve respect.
