  • I've b'n luvin dis song a lng tym.

  • one of the most touching love songs ever created...amazing

  • one of the most beautiful songs ever written. thanx for uploading.

  • thanks mitch,

    the drunken genius

  • absolute brilliant

  • please don't give up you are a genius and a creator of my whole life

  • You find a promoter that's got the bucks and is willing to bring them in, I'd bet they'd come. A band this size has expenses. They've never played in my immediate area either but I've traveled to see them, hell I'd have traveled to that small pub in London they just played if I'd have known enough ahead to fly over.

  • it's just impossible to describe this in plain words and letters... The music they created, the message they send to the world, just... amazing...The only regret I have is that I will never be able to see them playing live, since I am from Croatia, and they aren't planning to come here..But they would be very much surprised when they'd find out how many fans they have here.

The Pogues are really something. Something better than anything, something different... Thank them for that... Cro fan

  • @Pirkan90 exactly my point of view. There are many great bands, but the Pogues are so special, in every sense. They always will be my favorite band of them all...they make me feel something really special when I listen to their music...and they've got this "tragic element" with Shane MacGowan which is a part of the Pogues' story and which makes them so extraordinary.

  • @Pirkan90 They'll be in Zagreb on July 14th ! :-)

  • The Ginger Lady would be a relation of The Gingerman a nover by JP Donleavy who also wrote the short story A Fairy Tale of New York years before Shane used the title.

Its great to see this video. I was there back then when he was touched by that strange thing genius and wrote all those great songs. Long before the up the ira self parody.

God bless you and keep you safe from harm!

  • Way cool Roger, thanks for posting.

  • @rogermcnally ...I always thought the ginger lady was referring to whiskey.

  • @TheNEWBobDylan no, it was me. His love from the stars. I fell outta the sky once and into Shane's song and I've never ever ever recovered. I may call myself TabacBlonde now, but once I was his Ginger Lady. Just so we have our facts straight ;). God I hate facts..........................

  • @tabacblonde Ha! I always heard a ginger lady was a pitcher kept by a bed for relieving oneself at night when it was cold and the loo was too far. You were his ginger lady? Kinky.....

  • @mitch26 LOL, lol, how hysterical.....for several reasons. I prob am a bit kinky;) And somehow I'm thinking n spite of me being Shane's girl n all, that he maybe did one long, dark cold Irish nite reach out and take a 'wee' sip of the golden stuff.....that in the lifetime of Shane's career of song and drink, this had to have happened at least once. That said, our nights together were never dark nor cold, nor very long, ya know how time flies.....;-)

  • @rogermcnally nah bro its irish whiskey :P but thats interesting anyway.. could be either...

  • da brividi.... grazie di averlo riportato in vita!

  • brilliant performance, brilliant song

  • almost sober,,,,,,,, imposible

  • I just love this song! It's got such a calming effect and cheers you up. Thanks for putting this up it's the best version.

I like Shane his music it brilliant, I'm 21 and many of my friends enjoy his music aswell so you can't knock him.

  • rare and great!

  • there is a cover of this song in croatian language it's called poštar lakog sna (postman with light dreams - something like that) by pips, chips & videoclips it's good cover in croatia they are popular

  • I love this song, it's fucking brilliant....

  • that says it all, you hit that one bang square on the head.haha :)

  • If this guy dies....he will then and only then be truly recognised for the songwriting genius that he is. This song will be played over and over and over....and rightly so.

  • wow shane sounds great here

  • While my wife was reluctant to let me have any say, one of the few concessions I got on my wedding day was to have this as our bridal waltz. You can imagine the consternation when ten or so middle aged ex-crap-grade-rugby league players dragged their wives to the dance floor to slow dance to this one.

I saw Shane live not so long after; he needed a roady to light his smokes.

Without doubt a genius albeit a flawed one.

  • what a lovely wedding song to have! Aw!

  • The demons got a hold of his soul and snogged the angels out of his guts.

  • a genius and a true poet and a total twat for pissing it up the wall - he should be up there with nick cave and dylan but.......

  • Shane is not a total twat, he lives his life in a different way, a way which you obviously do not approve of, but I doubt that he is looking for your approval.

  • Sublime lyrics. Agree with searcherboy (both comments!) but was always gunna be that way.

If I could pick a song for The Killers to cover, would be this one.

  • What a genius Shane is...One of my favorite songs of all time. Thanks Shane, for your music.

    Erin go braugh!

  • We may never find out what it means <3

  • Thanks for this. A beautiful song, beautifully perfomed. I am normally reluctant to watch Shane perform - he's become such a wreck, it's hard to look at him. But he's at his best here.

  • I take back the bit about Shane being a wreck - it isn't fair to him. He's an artist true enough to himself to have fulfilled his talent. Too few artists can claim this.

  • Beautiful - Shane still in good form - tanx Mitch :-)

  • hey never heard of these guys but im very impressed with this...lyrically an absolute masterpiece and musically it also stands up there as being of very high quality...this guy singing is absolutley fantastic..you can detect angst and pain in his voice and its charachteristic of a abusive childhood and probably alcoholism...this may not be the case with this dude but i would not be surprised if either were true

  • you have to be a gemius to pen lyrics like that

  • The wind was whistling all its charms!!!! One of the best lyricists of all time!

  • Fucking Genius.

  • saw the boys again last week in NYC for the first time in 18 years. They are tight and playing better then ever. Shane had more voice and energy than I expected

  • song of the damned was real nice, mitch

  • Thanks, Dude. I'm hoping to be staggering around over your way around May.

  • cheers then! :)

  • Still the numer one !!!

  • I don't care what you say about his teeth or his alcoholism, this is one of the nost romantic songs of all time. Lyrical fucking genius!

If my beloved told me I was 'the measure of [his] dreams', I'd marry him tomorrow...

I used to see Shane in a certain Dublin pub and he was a lovely guy, just very into his g & t.

    RIP Kirsty

  • Say anything you like or dislike about this song or the Pogues and I'll be happy to approve your comments. Off topic political rants will not be approved and I removed the ones here previously posted. Nothing about Shane's teeth either, it's an old topic that we're all aware of.

  • One of my favorite pogues songs. I like it even better than Fairytale (A song that I love).

  • fucking right, this one even tops fairytale

  • Great video.

I think he talks about that hat in his book. Something about the "Spanish Civil War look."

  • thanks mitch...not seen this before...great stuff

  • shane is a god gift

  • Song still gives me the chills. What a great video, thanks for posting this.

  • One of the only people in this world that I actually RESPECT.. Shane MacGowan. Truly a genius.
