    No, it's for revmatching so that when you downshift it's smooth instead of lugging hard while the engine tries to catch up 

  • In a previous episode "Team EVO VIII vs Team STI - EVO Strikes Back - Best Motoring International" the version 8 STI Spec C and Evo VIII recorded significantly faster lap times than these cars. Are these newer cars slower?

  • @soop0r Yeah, i think part of the reason has to be different ambient temperatures, road conditions. This one looks like the track was a bit wet.

  • @superbike011 Yes that contributes to slower lap times to a certain extend i guess. Both the Spec C and Evos are getting heavier with each revision.

  • all gr8 cars but i do think the spec c ra-r driver wasn't driving it as hard as the nsx driver was!!!!! do the race again and swap the drivers...jap performance cars are ace drive them to their limit day after day or just pop to do the shopping in them..... bomb proof......

  • @eamonsugrue the NSX is 290 hp with a 500 pound weight advantage over the RA-R. that RA-R was maxed out for sure...itd have to be 350+hp to really go against a NSX. Had the NSX been a older Zanardi Edition with the 320 hp and another 300 hp less pounds in weight....it would have won by a couple hundred car lengths. Power to weight means everything on the track and the AWD system on the subies is HEAVY...they weigh 3500-3600 pounds. The NSX is maybe 2700 pounds.

They still dont beat a NSX..never will. they may weigh that much for rally minus the whole interior removed and other stuff removed. In the showroom.....they don't sell stripped down versions that are race ready and the car you see on the race circuit has almost nothing in common with the showroom edition....the ones you see here are showroom cars...not racers. duh

  • @MG42AA2 thats a evo mr and evos are equiped with ayc which aids in handling a lot they can make a new driver look good, the sti's are missing the many amount of electronic aids the evo has.......

  • If you look carefully best motoring videos from 2001 you will notice for one reason lap times for both evo and Sti are getting higher and higher...I recall lap times in the 1´04.6X" range for the 2003 spec C and EVO VIII RS MR, of course battles against the NSX & GTR R-34 were pretty close...moreover, in the 98 BMI battle the EVO V RS marked the lap record of 1´04.50... why are they now in the 6sec range? have tsukuba changed the track distance? newer cars are really slower?...thats odd.

  • @4G93TRACE I think it's because Evos are getting fatter every year. In short circuits like this, every kilo counts. Evo X is the fattest of them all.

  • @4G93TRACE Tsukuba is a very specific track, it likes cars that are faster trough slow tight corners, and older EVO's were better trough suck corners because of less weight and smaller wheelbase. Newer EVO's are very powerful cars tuned more for higher speed tracks. You will see often that cars like Lambo's or Ferrari's on tsukuba arent much faster per lap than Impreza STI for example, because its such a track layout.

  • @pin3appel Tsuchiya won because he was in the fastest car by far. The difference is not that obvious on a smaller track like Tsukuba but the NSX-R is the fastest production 280ps JDM and the only 280ps JDM to break 8" at nordschlife

  • the nsx has more than just 290.its got about 300 and whats more the NSX is in a different class from these machines.. the NSX is old but the way it handles and drives it's probabl one of the fastest stock jap cars at the time.. even now the only thing that would be faster would be the new Nissan GT-R.The NSX never competed with the STi's and the evo's cause it was soo much faster and superior and whats more Turbo cars are not necessarily faster than N/A cars.. take the Dodge Viper for example..

  • Yup I think it is, cant think of another N/A jap that's faster, and whats more the nsx has a 3.0 engine (3.2 actually? not sure) so you compare that to the STi's 2.0 litre engine, It does explain as to why the NSX is that fast. :)

  • 2 liter turbo with same HP.... so that does nt explain why the nsx is faster...the reason its faster is that its a mid engined RWD platform and also many other things that add up to a cost probably twice of the subaru that is behind it

  • yup very true.. not 2.5 litre.. thats the non japanese sti's. these cars in this vid are the JDM's and they have 2 litre engines which rev up to 8500RPM. NSX isn't all that more supreme than the STi's though. as I said earlier, the RA-R would've beaten it if they had launched in 1st and 2nd. cause the RA-R and nsx were together the entire race.

    It's the king of the JDMs for a long time. Fact is that it was a semi wet track, so the STi had the 4WD advantage. If it was a dry track the STi wouldn't be able to see the NSX. And the NSX is way more Supreme than the STI. All aluminum chassis 1270kg 3.2L N/A 290hp MR layout. (:

  • As i understand it the nsx is classed as a supercar designed by Arton Senna whereas the others are high performance saloon cars if this is fact i think the impreza's did great also if the nsx and the rar started side by side i think there would have a different outcome, i own a spec c ra just like the spec c in the vid and im well impresed with the outcome over the evo, impreza's rock, sti till i die.
