  • i could watch this all day

  • Dr J my first b ball idol..rocka bye baby on coop..what a dunk

  • perfect fuckin crazy dunk

  • the best dunk EVER!!

  • I'm surprise some of these dumb ass Y2K kids aren't screaming that this is a fake LOL!!

Let them tell it, big, strong, fast, athletic, high jumping players didn't exist in the NBA until they came along and started watching the game..SMH

I mean they're just ignorant & arrogant enough to actually believe that LOL!!

  • i dare say that this dunk is better than jordan's baseline dunk. With all due respect to jordan's dunk.

  • No doubt....prettiest in-stride dunk ever....Coop just gave up at the last second and hoped nobody would see his face...

  • the doctor just gave him a flu shot

  • my dad was at this game and im a laker fan. instead of a kobe poster i have this dunk in a poster over my bed

  • modern dunkers can't cradle the ball without using two hands, much less dribble and run full speed at same time while cradling. awesome dunk

  • ohhhh eeeee rocks the baby to sleep

  • The Dr. "does" house calls, ya folla!!

Now!!!! Chickee babeee!!! says "hay! rocked the baby to sleep" ahahahaha

fantastic dunk on coop. Do I miss miss chick man, made the game so fun,

was not bias or impartial, true legend.

  • Watched it live. Possibly the greatest dunk I've ever seen. Cuffed jam in the NBA Finals. Incredible.

  • I was there for the Lakers; Dr. J cheated!

  • top 5 dunks ever

  • Respect to Coop for for not giving up on the play, his rep as a defender is what makes this a great dunk.

  • Just watched this 45 times in succession and i still aint done watching it!!

  • Gotta give it up for Cooper too. He didn't give up on the play even though Doc nearly decapitated him under the basket.

  • @radbradlee lmfao!

  • who was Dr J's last dunk on?

  • Man. His shit was just like "BOOM!". Then he was on to the next one, no taunting needed. Classy and flashy, no one like Dr. J.

  • I don't think I've ever seen an eruption from a crowd like that. It's like every person in the joint got an electric shock! Classically, the opposing coach is calling for a time out, and Mr. Groovy Corderoy suit can't stand it!

  • Best in-game dunk ever..Jan 5, 1983..saw it live on tv on an old philly cable channel called PRISM..i was still a kid and when doc did this i yelled "holy shit" and scared my parents in the next room

  • What was the date of this game. Did philly win?

  • @MichRockHop81108 This game was Game 1 in the 1983 NBA Finals the Sixers won this game in OT which resulted in the Sixers taking the rest of the series by sweeping the Lakers 4-0. I'm a Laker fan through and through but I give much respect to Dr. J and his Sixers they were on a mission that year and didn't stop until they accomplished what they set out to do. The dunk Dr J did in this video I highly doubt Lebron James could do he's a one dementional dunker nothing more. Respect for the Legend.

  • @Matakashi yeah I know when he dunks it, he just like dunks it. He doesn't do anything sweet like J to get open for the dunk. And then he reacts so CRAZILY and it's like...yeah great thats two points fucker.

I can't believe the heat are beating boston. I smell a buy out. I want dallas to win.

  • @Matakashi I agree with the Lebron part. This dunk was Finesse first followed by brute force. Lebron doesn't have the touch or finesse to rock the baby and make it look so good. The sweeping motion was so perfect that it caused another professional athlete to reach for the ball, all while the Dr. was getting airborne. Michael Cooper jus gave up in mid air because he was no where near a man who was just besidde him.

  • @Matakashi this game was a regular season game in january 83, not the finals..tho the sixers later did indeed sweep the lakers in the finals

  • @supreme42069 You couldn't be more wrong about that, this happened in Game 1 of the 1983 NBA Finals. In fact this was in Overtime which the Lakers ended up losing, it was a very close game right down to the wire. And if you think I'm lying then search for Game 1 and watch all the way through I promise you will see this dunk by the Dr.

  • @Matakashi ok i checked and you are mistaken...the sixers won game 1 of the 83 finals 113-107 in regulation. Docs dunk over cooper was in overtime of a regular season game in January '83. Watch the end of game 1 of the 83 finals and see for yourself that it ends in regulation and this dunk did not occur then. Bottom line is its the best in-game dunk ever no matter when it happened.

  • Can anybody upload the Dunk, Doc did on Elvin Hayes on Christmas Day 1976. I can't find it. The Big E use to KILL the Sixers until Dr. J came along and dunked all in his grill. Anybody find that tape or have it, please upload it. Thanks!

  • Oh my gosh that is just so damn smooth it gives me goosebumps every time I see it just magnifecent,

  • It's fucking art in motion man, Never seen a guy dunk so pretty as Erving

  • poor micheal cooper

  • Tht was nasty

  • I get goosebumps every time i see this.

  • DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!! No need to say anything else.

  • OMG! This is easily one of the 5 greAtest posterizing dunks of all-time.

  • The commentator was epic.. . . he had a big hand in making that dunk a classic, the way he just came up with the name in an instant.. . .ohhh rock the baby around!!. . haha

  • This is the most wellknown posterizing dunk ever.Even people that dont know basketball have seen this dunk. When I think basketball I think of this dunk for some reason.

  • thats not a travel you dick heads

  • lol that guy with the beard and sun glasses looks like he's about to have a heart attack from watching such an amazing dunk.

  • Great dunk! A classic!

  • @TheBoiFlip Nope, just 2 long strides.

  • tht was sucha travel

  • @bbasketballstr11 r u an idiot? how's that travelling?

  • @bbasketballstr11 Where does the 3rd step come in .... I think I missed it ...

  • The Dunk of Death!

  • not to be a hater but he took 3 steps

  • @speranzayaya The steps don't count until he palms the ball. After running it over and over, my conclusion is, he took two long steps (which is legal) and shot into the air like a rocket and dunked the hell out of that ball. 2 points.

  • One of the best dunks ever (if not THE best)

  • @MolineScott i had to say something to you... you are so fucking stupid. rudy gay?? hahaha dumb ass

  • I watched that game and i still think thats the best dunk ever

  • @lamons71 , if you think thats the best dunk EVER than you must not have watched a single game since watching this game!

  • @MolineScott Blasphemy

  • Gay ass music

  • the music ruins it

  • @zowiedied first thing i thought damn leave the video as is

  • Back in those days people believed an "apple a day, keeps the Dr away" saying was just a myth...Michael Cooper is one of the few poor souls who found out the hard way that its not.... xD

  • :09 wtf Will Ferrell was at that game man that dude is fuckin sick :) greatest dunk ever just got that much better !!!!

  • The best part, stayed straight faced the whole time.

  • Lotion for the eyes !!

  • Traveling.

  • @Camel22221 :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • the greatest in game dunk of all time. just sick.

  • Greatest Ever in Game Dunk 4rm Greatest Ever In Game Dunker.

  • g.o.a.t of dunking

  • im a laker fan and i have to admit this is the most amazing in-game-dunk of all time, and he did it to a great defensive player coop, ive seen dunks from MJ, carter, kobe even the chambers one is awesome but this one is hands down

  • the greatest dunk EVER!!! Dr. J was way ahead of his time.

  • omg......he rocked that cradle then swung it over the top.......omg........

  • not only avoid the block, Dr is avoiding the BODYCONTACT, like cant even touch me!

  • i agree. this dunk is so fuckin disgusting i put it up against any other dunk any day period.

  • Best dunk ever!

  • lol should have called travelling.

Was that 3 or 4 steps?

  • Yeah, Cooper got dunked on! There is some video I saw on Youtube about DR. J's dunks, near the end he posters Magic. Not lying.

  • The NBA didn't have slam dunk contests

    The old ABA did

The NBA started them in 1984, after this season

  • That dunk was soooo cik!!!

  • Kobe is not either Michael Jordan or Dr. J. Not even close.

  • That dunk made slam dunks cool!

They didn't have slam dunk contests back then. Highlight reels

    This elevated the game

    Literally!

  • Of course they had slam dunk contest back then. Dr. J won at least two of them.

  • This defines the word "owned".

  • I wish I had a poster >_>

  • Dr J inspired MJ while MJ inspired Kobe

  • Dr J inspired MJ whilte Kobe "COPIED" MJ.

  • actually, mjs game was very much like dr. j's while kobe's is different from mj's

  • kobes and michaels are almost identical idiot.they both have hops and flash.they both have the best mid range j in the league. they both had the best fadeway.they both put up crazy numbers in the smae flamboyant fashion.get educated fool

  • Michael Jordan's game is more complete than Kobe's. Jordan has more moves than Kobe. I've never even seen Kobe do a rock the cradle dunk. Which it isn't easy to do.

  • what the hell does a rock the cradle have to do with basketball moves?

  • Dr.J's dunk is called the rock the cradle dunk. Learn the basketball moves better.

  • ok thats a dunk...being able to rock the cradle doesnt make someone a basketball player...i can find some kid out of a tribe in africa and teach him rock the cradle but does that make him a good player? didnt think so...you learn basketball and think before you speak

  • Dr. J came out with that rock the cradle dunk technique. Yeah learn the facts!

  • what does rocking the cradle have to do with being a good player? you're not making ANY sense

  • It's the dunk that Dr. J is demonstrating in this video. I was talking about the move he did on this video. I know Dr. J had an array of moves when he played. Yeah it's you that should make more sense.

  • i made a comment about how creating a type of dunk is not a move that will make someone a better player...do you continue failing to understand that? i dont know what's so complicated..of course he rocked the cradle but that is not an actual move, its a type of dunk...you dont hear people telling others that to be a better player they need to rock the cradle do you? didnt think so

  • The rock the cradle dunk is a flashy dunk. It's one of the best dunks I have ever seen. I haven't seen players do it nowadays. Other than Dr.J, Michael Jordan ,and Larry Nance. You are trying to lecture me with stuff I already know when you are actually sounding foolish by doing so.

  • read what i posted and you will know im not foolish but intelligent...i played ball in high school and college, and would be playing in europe but i blew my knee out..i know what im talking about, so read my posts and realize youre arguing stupid shit

  • You are self righteous. That explains it all!

  • this is the last time i need to say this..read what ive posted, it has to do with how a type of dunk doesnt make someone a better bball player..is brent barry considered one of the greatest players cuz he was the first white player to dunk from the foul line in dunk contest? NO, so dunks mean nothing when referring to someones bball skills...thats what im arguing and its not even a debatable topic...move on

  • @SpacerAM2 Dr. J had giant hands and arms that seemed to dislocate at the shoulders. He could take the ball way back behind his torso and could pick the ball up off the dribble w/ only one hand. If you can't do both, you can't do what he did in that video unless you have elite hangtime like Jordan or Carter.

  • how did he copy him? that means that every single player who can dunk and has hops like mj has copied him?so shannon brown and j-smoove have copied mj? get a life, stop bringing mj vs kobe into these videos.

  • @mnkhan2020 lebron is tryign to copy mj (#23), not kobe.

  • @mnkhan2020

Actually, if you KNEW anything about MJ you tard, you'd realize that MJ "COPIED" David Thompson. Which like your statement, isn't true, but simple YouTube posters always think they know something. MJ played his game more like Skywalker and less like the Doctor.

  • @cbaldwinjr Actually, you are the tard because nobody can play like MJ!

  • @Domini478

Nothing like an oxygen thief. Are you up past your bedtime? Look up MJ's Hall of Fame speech and trying engaging your brain before you engage your mouth. It'll save you the embarrassment

  • @smoothhoopinal but the Doctor tops em all (in dunking that is...)

  • @smoothhoopinal doc did all that with one hand, not once did he use 2 hands, great

  • @smoothhoopinal I agree but MJ had better fundamentals overall.I think few people match Dr J in athletics in even in todays game if he had access to all the training and the food and supplements(maybe drugs) players/people have today hed be dominant as well..Lebron to me is the only better overall athlete than J.

  • @julioholderbusiness If Dr. J had access to all of that, he would probably dunk from the baseline...his OWN baseline :)

  • @smoothhoopinal MJ always cited David Thompson as his inspiration growing up

  • @smoothhoopinal who do kobe insprired

  • Oh my god what a dunk , just look at the crowd! Probably the best ever

  • gghhgfkhg

  • omg

  • The ball never touched his left hand. WOW

  • yes, this dunk is the greatest of all time. i mean lebron james has some sick dunks, but to me. this one is the best because it looks like its in slow motion even though its obviously real time. its perfect. i couldnt even do this in my dreams.

  • agreed. and the look on his face, it isnt contorted, his tongue isnt all hanging out. he is so damn calm about facial obusing cooper lol. best.

  • I don't know Lebron got some beastly jams like the one on barbosa was top 20 all time along with the one on Damon Jones not to mention the one on the Mavericks Josh Howard where he went up with one hand (his right) moved and held it to the left then came back up with the right and dunked it that was unreal

  • love it. picked up his dribble at the 3 point line. awesome

  • you do know the carry rule didn't exist back then right?

  • LOL can you say carry ? moron refs

  • This is THE greatest in game dunk....EVER!!!

  • agreed

  • damn, crazy dunk. Too bad the announcers sucked back in the day. They got monotone voices. If this happened today, the commentators would be going crazy, adding to the excitement, not trying to put u to sleep.

  • tru but the crowd look liked he won the championship

  • They was just cool back then, that's all. Like the Dr., they didn't need to go, yeah, that's right, we bad... whoooooooooo and jump up on the scorer's table and beat their chest. The doctor didn't need to to any of that.

  • Chick Hearn was ANYTHING but monotone. This is funny -- some kid listens to Chick for 5 seconds and says "he sucked." Chick was soooo good, I'd actually turn off the volume on the TV set during the nationally televised games. Whenever I listened to a game on radio, Chick was so good, I thought I was there....

  • regular season game..january 1983..the steal and dunk happened in overtime..sixers won the game and swept the lakers in finals

  • regular season, i saw it live!!

  • That was the best dunk ever in a game, and to be off a steal, in a championship game, one handed all the way, windmilled that bad boy, that was classic Dr. J, in the twilight of his career.

  • what is this song ?

  • He`s the PELE of basketball (The Phenomenon) All times. People think that Michael Jordan is the only player can walk in the air, no way! Dr. J jumped even higher than Michael Jordan.

  • A dunk that was burned into my memory as a child...Dr. J was my idol growing up. Seeing this dunk again as an adult....gave me the chills....absolutely spectacular!!!!

  • pause late into the 13th second and u can see that he was gunna put his hand up but after he seen what he was gonna do he didnt. lol.

  • i got his my nickname from him

  • dat is about the most unenthusiastic playcall I have ever heard. I am so glad we have come so far from the 80's.

Oh yea, and that was a siccccck dunk

  • The "unenthusiastic playcall" was from legendary Chick Hearn. Know of anyone remotely in his league today?

  • I can't remember but was that from the 1983 NBA finals?

  • no it was during the regular season

  • that dunk was from the 1983 nba finals smartass.

  • he is the greatest idol of Michael Jordan

  • way better than the 2000 olympics carter over the tall defender, this one has style

  • "Julius...the Doctor...Eeeeerviiiinggggg!"

  • the ball did look smaller

  • no,his hands were enormous for his size.

  • anyone have this whole game?

  • he was great. a true originator

  • Simply amazing
