to leicester central.then they might actually make them clean up that huge demo site that was Leicesters engineering industry. and connect to High cross. and beyond to Foss Park. as buses ae crap.
i have often wondered if the 2 sites would link up well done cant wait for that to happen good luck i used to live n n w londoniwith the line behind my house on the small section they left my late uncle told me lots about this line although he was a lms man he was a proper t5rain nut lol
this is something a guided busway will never do, they say that they're more efficiant, but who honestly here wants to travel on a bus anyway? where the excitement in that?
The gap does actually put the GCR at risk of losing financially. The gap must be bridged at some point in order to preserve some integrity for the heritage line.
hows the re opening going?i work on railway and would help you in anyway, has there been any talk of going further south maybe towards rugby?the bridge over the m1 is still there,i noticed a bridge missing next to the m1 somewhere though
I love the look of this, shes right, the network is becoming harder to operate on, and this will bring in so much money for hertiage railways, if more and more support throughout hertigae railways. Not just the GCR
Would love to see it happen but how theygonna get cash.
Could they not just start fundrasising now, surely they don't need all the cash to start? just start on the little bridge over canal and show they are commited to project and want it completed, this will attract investors and they can start just taking little bits of money to contribute. It's clearly feasible so just get started.
A very professional and convincing video. I live in the USA and traveled on the GCR from Rugby to Nottingham quite often in the 1960s. It would be great to travel a large part of that line again and would certainly regenerate the area.
This would be brilliant! If only the money was there to do it. If 7 million can be spent on restoring a Vulcan Bomber, this would be a more worthwhile project. Its great to see a Vulcan up in the air but its becoming a 'cash cow' with too many so called celebrities jumping on the bandwagon.
@cleckheatoncentral They've probably built houses over the trackbed & the old Leicester Central station site. Then there's the problem of re-instating the level crossing at Belgrave and Birstall which the local authorities are unlikely to authorize, least for a heritage railway. Other than that, I like what you're saying
good video, although this has been said to happen years ago. I doubt it will be completed within the next 10yrs, athough it is feasible, there simply is not enough money. Investors wont back the project in this economic climate and lottery grants havent been awarded, as there is no evidence of the railway making a start on the project (except from the countless number of feasibility studies). It will be something special when it does happen though.
im down here quite a lot the only thing is that all track would need to be moved before the canal bridge because infront is the shed and behind is stacks of unused coaches and a burnt railbus!
Yeah, GCR is great, but will be better when it all gets connected up. But my fav one is the Strathspey railway, it has always had a special place in my heart ;)
has anyone made this for microsoft train sim

I would think getting to Leicester city centre is a better. Just think of the boost to the local area.
