And that is why I think it is time for Africans to use their brains and the available technology to convert the huge natural resources into usable commodities to benefit their own people.
Africa must diversify their economies from raw material export into industrialisation where value is added to these resources before export. That will earn them more money which could in turn be used to strengthen their economies
Global elites are behind it, they want to keep those nations in a 3rd world nation status. Most of them are forced to accept aid while the westerners are cripplzing nations. Most firms in Africa are owned by western private bankers who only want to create debt and demanding their recources
Africa is the most resourced rich continent on earth so why do they have to depend on aid. Of course natural resources alone do not make a nation rich.
Aid has actually prevented Africa from taking their destiny into their own hands. Dependence on aid is a catalyst for failure. Moyo is rightly making a strong arguement. Those who want to see Africa reduced to beggars dont like the idea that someone is exposing thier hidden agenda. .
they don't need aid because they world is overpopulated. it's not overpopulated in the west, it's in the third world countries. poor africans have no education, and once you give them aid, they'll only breed faster and create a bigger famine.
sometimes being a bleeding heart liberal can actually be more harmful.
Aid, if provided in the right form and amounts is essential for jump starting people out of poverty. Aid hs provided solutions to over population , which also exists in develope nations.
I never declared myself a bleding hard liberal. An neither do all Africannations take aid to produce more children. What is you proof.
the africans are constantly looking to reproduce, reproduce, reproduce, because they're ignorant. any amount of money will only help them to create more hungry mouths to feed. then you need more aid to feed the larger population. you're creating a spiral of famine. you need to teach the africans responsibility (good luck with that one). my advice is, let the nature sort it out best, like it always does, and don't throw a single penny into that well of a africa.
It's not like there are large families in the First World. Not fogetting that first world subsidies have created more damage than aid could ever had on Africa
I agree with you. Sounds like she wants "selective aid" " oh helps us here but not here...'? doesnt make sense to me. Forget it, they need aid! Africa is full of "absolute poverty" get a definition then come back to me.
Aid can of course work if given direct focus but over reliance on aid isn'tgood. Mayo sweeping thinks all Western aid has been a failure--she hasn't seen the actions of DFID and some nordic donors.
Their is no single African nation that can say : thanks to aid we're wealthy and strong enough to do it by ourselves. Global elites are only crippling society's by purpose because in the '80's African nations became self-reliant and self-effient and the west saw it as a threat.
but for me, a british accent lends credibility to the speaker. thought it shouldn't be the case, i think many americans respond the same way (though i have no way of knowing for sure).
Dambisa Moyo is very much correct about the economics of government-to-government foreign aid.
I hope that through further study on the topic of the U.S. banking system, she will learn about how the constant credit expansion, overzealous federal spending, moral hazard from Federal Deposit Insurance & bailouts, & Community Reinvestment Act were all forms of gov. regulation that actually precipitated the current economic crisis.
political correctness is the only reason money is wasted on africa.

What a wonderfully bright brave woman. I love it. She is black, and has the facts straight --for a change.

yes, legendre007. good thing she's attractive and has an accent. it's hard to take truth medicine if it didn't taste good.
but really, arguments today rely so much first look credibility.
it's a game, and it has to be won.
