  • この出場者達も、何処かの「選手」?

  • Thumbs-up if you found this video while Googling for Karuta after walking Chihayafuru. ^.^

  • It might seem lame, but the Japanese people from aristocrats, men and women of 8-11 century to citizens of good families in 21st century have been memorizing the most outstanding 100 poems to acquire culture by this game. It requires understanding the theme of the first verses to remember and finding the last verses correctly.

  • Isn't this game quite lame? There isn't any "strategy" per se involved...it's just memorizating tons poems so well that you can react in split second when one's mentioned

  • I was perplexed, but read the explanation by 1001koala. Now the card game is intriquing. The concept of the game is simple and might translate well into different cultures, though probably without the ancient ritual, which is distinctly Japanese. I had never heard of the game. The women's kimonos were beautiful and elegant.

  • @CohuttaBlue they memorize 1 set of 100 poems perfectly. each poem has the upper part and the lower part. 1 set has 100 cards for the reader and 100 for players. 100 reader cards have different poems written both parts on them. 100 players cards corresponding to the poems have only the lower part on them. they put 50 players cards out of 100 on the floor after shuffling. the reader read 1 poem (0:13) there wasnt. the reader began reading the next poem upper (0:22), they took the card exactly.

  • es como la loteria tradicional de mexico la mujer que esta cantando esta leyendo un poema de las mismas cartas que las otras mujeres estan contemplando en el suelo, cuando ellas reconocen la carta con el poema que la mujer canta, la primera en sacarlo con la mano gana (^^ ;

(wiki

  • Its a KARUTA(card)game. One person reads out an ancient TANKA(Japanese poem) with a unique tone like chanting( so its not a horrible singing) and two or more people compete to snap the matching card from the floor. people in this video are in HEI-AN costume which noble people used to wear in Hei-an era( 8century to 11century). people of Japanese royal family still wear these costume for traditional events. Hope this will help to get a bit about Japanese culture.

  • lol i LOVE their kimonos XD..but umm this is a game, right? *sorry can't read the kanji in the vid description* ^^
