Lack of insurance DOES NOT mean you cannot obtain medical care. By law, a hospital has to provide you with treatment - they cannot turn you away. It's called MEDICAID. My friend's husband had a brain tumor but no insurance. He was given surgery and treatment - & is doing well. They pay $120 a month on their bill b/c they both are employeed now, but did not have to pay until they got back on their feet. The best way to lower costs on any business incl. insurance is market COMPETITION.
Yes PRECISELY, hospitals won't turn you away. The uninsured will seek treatment when they're critically ill at the point of catastrophic damage. That is, it may be free for the recipient, but somebody somewhere is paying -- usually the taxpayers. Of course, illegal aliens should receive no government benefits. For that matter, most govt benefits should be eliminated for legal citizens. Govt creates problems, then tries in vain to solve them.

Wow you really are clueless. You have no idea. ERs care is dozens of times more expensive than getting patients access to primary care physicians before they're at the point of catastrophic health. ERs are overcrowded and patients with legitimate emergencies often can't get seen fast enough. Wait times can be 2-3 days. You really need to stop watching only the Fox News channel and get out into the real world. Go take a tour of a big city emergency room at a county hospital.

Numerous small business organizations presented congress with a plan that would allow them to form a huge co-op to purchase insurance a group. Bush backed this plan. It lost in the Senate by one vote and Arlen Specter didn't vote. This could have allowed many small businesses to cover more of their employees. Now he wants to join with Obama and make everyone pay TAX on benefits if we don't join his half-ass plan. This will cost the avg. family about $2,000 more per year in taxes. Wake UP!

Or counseling patients on end of life decisions - a patient has full right to say I want to be kept alive as a vegetable on machines for as long as possible or I choose to pass peacefully. The cost of this expanded entitlement is prohibitive. Nothing is free and it will be paid for in increased taxes and cutbacks in healthcare delivery. Yet no one who supports it has been either honest or forthcoming with the facts of the true costs.
Also, the intrusiveness into the doctor/patient relationship is unacceptable. Further, government access to our bank accounts and personal medical records is an extreme invasion of privacy.

There is no rush to pass any healthcare legislation. Polls consistently indicate that the majority of Americans who have insurance are generally satisfied with their coverage. No system is perfect, but ours is the best in the world (as evidenced by people from other countries traveling to the U.S. to use our medical facilities and doctors). Usually, the best is also the most costly. I doubt any of us would settle for inexpensive health care if it meant returning to the technology of the 1960s.

No one is currently denied medical treatment in our country. There's a difference between being uninsured & being denied healthcare. If this legislation passes, we'd all have insurance, but could be denied the healthcare we need & the decisions on who would receive treatment would be taken out of the hands of the patient and doctor. If taxpayers now pay for only emergency medical care for the uninsured, imagine how much $ the gov't will need to cover ALL medical procedures for ALL uninsured.

Legislators need to find solutions that address fixing Medicare and Medicaid and NOT expanding an already broken and flawed entitlement program which has become the main reason for the increased cost of medical care in this country. Gov't needs to start thinking about getting out of the healthcare business. It has a proven track record of failure. Lack of insurance DOES NOT mean you cannot obtain medical care. By law, a hospital has to provide you with treatment - they cannot turn you away. It's called MEDICAID. My friend's husband had a brain tumor but no insurance. He was given surgery and treatment - & is doing well. They pay $120 a month on their bill b/c they both are employeed now, but did not have to pay until they got back on their feet. The best way to lower costs on any business incl. insurance is market COMPETITION.

Yes PRECISELY, hospitals won't turn you away. The uninsured will seek treatment when they're critically ill at the point of catastrophic damage. The hospital will treat them, spending tens of thousands of dollars and we the tax payer and the insured will pay for it. The beauty of our current system!!! US spends. 1/2 of all personal bankruptcies in US are "medical bankruptcies" and 3/4 of the bankrupt had insurance when they fell ill. So uh where is the outrage on the 3.7 TRILLION SPENT on the defense budget over the last 8 years? They want to spend a proposed 900 billion to a 1 trillion on health care over the next 10 years and people are freaking out???

Who is paying these brownshirt, jackbooted Gestapo wannabes these two government HACKS are using and how much are they getting? One of the qualifications seems to be that you have to be at least 50 pounds overweight. How will they 'fit', so to speak, into government rationed and run health care?<
