This particular version of Winter is still to this day the best rendition I've heard. So many musicians just butcher this piece by trying to do certain parts as fast as they can and it destroys the feeling. I love this version.
i really wouldn't use the word evolved. the connotation suggests that metal is indeed more advanced and sophisticated which is in no way true. heavy metal artists have talent i'm sure but they can in no way be compared to the greats and that is in no way just my opinion...if you look at the skill required to compose and play classical music it far outweighs metal. anybody can hammer out notes in quick succession but to make a masterpiece like the one by vivaldi...it takes something more.
@6810chris 'anybody can hammer out notes in quick succession' are you fucking joking? you've got a nerve to descibe metal like that. metal is a profound and skilled response to the sick crapola of today's 'modern' society and has saved my ass more than once. it is glorious music and is absolutely up there with classical masterpieces
@jaddajn1 there are two dynamics in metal...forte and fortissimo. no depth, no emotion besides angry and depressed...i understand the skill needed to play is considerable and much more significant than most of today's music but still nowhere near classical. instead of basing a response on your NOTIONS of what it takes to make music ask someone who actually does. they'll give you the same asnwer as me. contemporary music is good you just have to look harder.
@stargazer555 Heavy Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal, Power Metal, Metalcore, Melodic Metal...nope, can't find anything outside of being really fast or being down. Maybe I'm confused as to what counts as metal, but I'm having a hard time finding music that is considered metal, yet lacking both these properties.
Since you seem to have such a vast understanding on the subject, why have you excluded any examples which might back your claim? I'd love to hear more about these mystery metal bands.
@SnapSunny: I guess not being able to grasp what you're reading might have added to your confusion. Where did I claim metalbands didn't have those traits?
I said that there's MORE to it than only those two traits.
And sure, death metal and black metal are extremes, yet even bands in those genres like Opeth aren't restricted to just the brutal aspect that dominates the genre.
Anyway, maybe just cut the sarcasm, get off your high horse sometimes and do your research yourself? :) Cheers!
@stargazer555 I have actually researched this topic, and could not find anything MORE than what generally pertains to "angry" or "depressed." Yes, this is the same concept as violet and lavender being different words for purple.
Also, Opeth wasn't very angry, but very down. I'm still waiting on these other bands that will shed light on your comment. You seem to encourage self-study, yet refuse to give any examples to back what you say; maybe due to them being non-existant? ;)
@SnapSunny: No offence, but the fact you mentioned metalcore in the same breath as those other subgenres already proved how little you know about metal. You mentioned some subgenres, but obviously haven't explored them. Because most of them are filled with bands that have a wide range of emotions in their songs, and much more complexity than just being loud and fast, or "down". As for Opeth by the way: melancholy is just one of many aspects, above all it's very atmospheric.
Let's start with the obvious: Iron Maiden, Dio, Sabbath, Judas priest.. to name some of the biggest names. Or Kamelot, Helloween, Savatage, Blind Guardian, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Fates Warning, Moonspell, Queensryche... The list is endless, and it's useless spelling everything out for you here, because I'm pretty sure you're just trolling anyway.. ;)
@jaddajn1 it certainly isn't up there with classical pieces. nothing is and nothing will ever be. Its one of the deep truths of life. Its something you should know.
I remember playing on a leap pad learning book when I was little. You know, those books for kids that talk when you touch the picture with the pen it gives you. I had a lot of those books, but my favorite was on classical composers. My favorite page was Vivaldi's. On this page, the book would make you play a game on which season each song was. I never had any trouble with winter. It was the eerie, fragile song.
@batlletek Well isn't this a coincidence! I am fifteen studying chemistry and U.S. history and was for sometime listening to the musings of Bach, now I remember why Vivaldi is one of my favorites. Aren't we fancy? YES WE ARE!
@dominoes37 yes i kinda agree...i guess the other vid showed people in venice dressing up for the traditional masque festival or masques...im not sure what its called but the english masques written by milton and other writers got its name from it...and of course our 'mask' also came from it
@dominoes37 hahaha in my course last semester i took "Music in the Human Imagination" and the clip with the people with the masks was what we saw when we learned about this composer, everyone was like "wtf" hahah
I love this song. My favourite time to listen to it is when the snow is falling and its right before dawn. Taking a walk through the trees of my yard with this song playing in my headphones is so fun for me :3
@PSNDemonwing Can't you have a civilized conversation on youtube? I like both heavy metal and classic and yes heavy metal came from classical it ''evolved''

Doing an essay on him for music a level this very second, we have to right down what we think of the four season pieces and what pictures it puts in your head ect ect and ive got to say its so easy due to the strong images im getting from listening.
when i was a youngèr child, i pulled out the cd we had and listened to vivaldiès part and got goosebumps. it was just so amazing, the music seeps into your soul.
@xxloveandpeace123xx Oh I don't mind. George Frideric Handel was another baroque-era composer. You've probably heard some of his "Messiah" oratorio. Check out his "Water Music Suites" and his "Sarabande". :)

@666metal666me I Totally agree with you, i came across this when in a time of heavy grunge seattle music years ago and it totally below me away!!! it is pure pure beautifull expression, i cant even find words for it!!!
@esteban3527343 i have no objection to modern music. you must understand that in modern times it's easier for teenagers to get into that type of music. enjoyment of all music is best :)
Why is everyone saying it's classical? I thought it was baroque.
