One of the things I appreciate about Taiwanese products is their excellent attention to detail and fit and finish of the items. All of the electronics that I have purchased from Taiwan still work beautifully after 20 years! Some of the things that I have recently purchased that are made in China expire shortly after the 90 day warranty period ceases! Ridiculous!
So if at all possible I prefer purchasing things from Taiwan as they don't hate the USA.
Unlike Korea, Taiwan has not built up a strategical industry base despite much more advantageous headstart. Now it is going to give up nuclear powerplants without which a strategical industry base cannot survive(by that time Korea will have more than 3 dozen powerplants).Taiwan may emphasize agriculture and tourism in the past.
U Taiwanese have no conscientiousness at all! KMT stole China's wealth in earlier years and now your greedy and shameful businessmen exploit Chinese workers and churn out low-quality products disgracing Made in China brand image. Before opening door to the world in 1980s, Chinese are very simple and unadorned, Taiwan merchants somehow brought along some bad habits to China afterwards causing us striving to shed the Made in China brand of its cheap and chunky image.
Ur products are really that worth trusting? Looking at recent contamination by toxic plasticizers! Dont blame us again before fixing up ur own problems! Ok?
Can I just say something guys? I have a great deal of respect for Taiwan because the quality of products you make is very good, much better than China. I dont like China for may reason, child labour, poor quality of everything they make and so on. I have HTC Wildfire S and it is fantastic, and, very well made...In Taiwan :D Keep it up and dont be sold out by the Chinese!
Japan is now falling behind in electronics and ,especially, software. Large Japanese companies now rely on Korean enterprise software. In particular; japan's tanks and rifles are expensive but not well-made; Japan should import Serbian weapons instead of trying to make their own.

Korean products are in a different class. Now Korean handphones are becoming No.1 in international market despite being the most expensive. Korean leaders had great visons and made Korea a Greater Power nation. In Taiwan, the leaders were more short-term oriented. Korean large companies still have manufacturing in Korea and not moved to China.
lol, at the start i was like....... pfff taiwan is cool and all but i mean who couldnt live without it, i mean, i dont know whats going on there right now..... but now im more like, hey, without taiwan i wouldnt have my computer or my internetz, so over all taiwan = win...
....... but cmon, with this movie and shit........ i reckon they are pretty full of themselves
As for car manufacturing, Korea has now world leadership in new generation car technology as shown in hybrid propulsion and car system integration. The IT hardware industry, as any other industry once reached maturity PLC stage, is becoming increasingly capital intensive. Thus, Taiwanese companies will have difficulties competing with Korean companies in this area since the latter have access to virtually unlimited capital.
Singapore haha! Singapore can't even make a car. They only know ship the shit through ocean, and sending their stupid soldiers to Taiwan for training. Correct me, if I am wrong please.
Singapore = Small people with a small mind, and stood on a very small land. They rule by the same president over and over again even his son, and his grandson, and his grand grandson. What a loser small country.
Stupid Kim-Chi is the true copy cat at everything. Car is already over developed by many countries, therefore it's unnecessary to do so, and just play as a consumer role. I think that South Korean car makers are the lowest class in the world. I believe North Korea can make better cars than South Korea.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Taiwan? Haha. They cant even make a Car. Taiwan developed faster than Korea during the 60s and 70s, but Korean car already found everywhere. What about Taiwan? Taiwan cant advance further than light industry.
Each country has an industry that fits its own conditions. Taiwan has different conditions from our country which is dominated by 1-2 companies with unlimited available resources. Thus,Taiwan should adopt a strategy in which midscale companies like the German Mittelstand develop world-class key technologies. The Korean way is not a cure-all since with the huge companies, Korea's per capita GDP is still lower than that of Germany.
Korean companies are simply too large to enter edge technology fields ; in addition, there is no scale advantage in such niche fields(such as specialized technology equipment). Focusing budget on defense industry(NOT arms increase but support of indigenous defense technology infrastructure) will help a lot,as in the case of Israel which has achieved world leadership in technology based on its strog defense industry. The latest chicken game was a real strategic mistake.
Smaller countries like Israel or Sweden have no DRAM/LCD production but still are very competitve and live better than our country. Why? Because they have international strength in non-capital intensive technology areas. Taiwanese SMEs are in fact larger than European Mittelstands(and some Japanese small companies which have a unique international position). Thus, Taiwan should benchmark those countries, graudally move out of IT inudstry(except for CPU/SoC) and specialize in edge technology fields
The latest DRAM chicken game showed that Taiwanese companies should not attempt to compete in capital intensive areas. They are simply no match to Samsung. In this area, scale is competitiveness. Another problem is that the digital appliances industry area is where supercorporations like Samsung dominate. Expensive Samsung phones will continue to sell better than Taiwanese ones, even if several times more expensive. Taiwan cannot compete with Korean companies in such areas.
Ya, i must agree.... Taiwanese product is just amazing. in fact, the only thing thats in my house last for years and still using, is made in taiwan, on the other hand, things i have to replace 5 times over is made in china and pisses me off.
People here say that only very large companies might survive but scale is not the sole factor; for example, many European and Japanese companies which are much smaller than IT SMEs have achieved world leader status in key industrial products. Scale competition in capital intensive areas like DRAM/LCD is NOT what Taiwan should do; Taiwanese industry should benchmark leading Israel,Germany and Japanese companies .
Taiwan has achieved a lot in certain R&D areas recently but as a whole. Taiwanese companies should do much more than manufacturing of light industry products which some day might be produced somewhere else as well. Taiwanese companies have been good at rapidly following market trends but Korean companies(especially some newer SMEs) have become world technology leaders and have established global manufacturing bases, not just in China.
Taiwan is now No.2 in IT products and has achieved tremendous advance in science/technology during the recent years. But for sustained growth, Taiwan should strengthen its basis in selected areas of traditional industries, such as shipbuilding, construction, steel manufacturing, machinery and others.
Taiwan "jia you", you've been in some economic trouble in recent years because of your president chen, but don't worry, get up and make another miracle again!
Don't be fooled by the Chinese News. If you read the Taiwanese news closely, you would find the KMT has been working with China to cripple Taiwan's economy. The most recent example, the annual budget for 2007 was not passed by KMT (senate majority) until about 200 days into the year. It's a miracle that the President Chen managed to keep the country running till now. The only hope to create another miracle is to completely destroy KMT in the upcoming election. Taiwan "jia you"
Why embarrassing? All Chinese, on the Island and the mainland, should be so proud! Foregin force tried to and succeeded in separate/separating us, but one day a new greater China will be born minus communism and Western pseudo-democracy!

superlemon50,
Car Making is very LABOR INTENSIVE and REQUIRED a lot of LAND as well!
South Korea with a population of 48,379,392 vs Taiwan's population of 23,036,087!
South Korea have a bigger DOMESTIC MARKET to support that possibility!
Look at Japan! Japan have a population of 127,433,494! They have more LAND as well!
CAR MAKING will be very DIFFICULT for the SMALL TAIWAN! That's the REALITY CHECK there!!

True, Taiwan will face stiff competition from China in those areas. Can't compete with China in cheap manufacturing.
