Hardest castlevania game ever. At least the nes version was nice enough not to put you over a pit for the Dracula battle. I can only beat him with the Axe subweapon.
I remember one time when I was playing this level on the snes, I got to the drawbridge part, but Richter barely touch the part of the platform that triggers the drawbridge to fall and he actually jumped and missed the bridge! I was like 'wtf just happened?' and the funny thing is it didn't count as a death so it just kept showing that screen haha.
This game wasn't a port of Chi no Rondo, which was only available on the Turbo Grafx Super CD. There are some similarities, but they're different games. It's really worth playing both. Especially Chi no Rondo.... One of my favorite games of all time.
lol i was one of those , i started with sotn and all gba n ds castle n now i prefer playing the old school ones on the older consoles n well now i collect the old castlevania cartirdges to. long live the old skool vanias
@legreckencriss The older games legitimately challenge you with difficult levels and boss battles that revolve around quick reflexes and pattern recognition. I don't like the 2d metroidvanias. Leveling systems complicate the game play too much. You either have to run around killing stuff for an eternity so you can deal damage to the boss or have to keep slugging away for hours per boss encounter. I did like the PS2 titles those did a good job capturing the classic vania feel in 3d.
Most of the young pals around here talking shit about castlevania discovered the series with Symphony of the Night on the Playstation, and don't like the older episodes cuz' they aren't the metroidvania (or castletroid) style... or simply cuz' they weren't on the playstation. Shame on them !
i love sotn, but it is overrated. I like the old school castlevanias more. Same thing with Final Fantasy VII, ppl talk shit bout the old school titles in the series but i like the old school games and FFVII=Overrated game.
oh yeah, im a retro gamer, thats probably why i like the old school games more than the new school ones. Super Nintendo is what i grew up with along with NES. Those are my favorite consoles of all time.
Awesome. I also find that old school titles are easier to navigate in w/o a faq. That is why i like old school gaming, besides the difficulty of course. Plus i love the feeling of nostalgia.
Bah! I'm allowed to backhand most of the whiners here contemptibly. Metaphorically speaking, anyway, not literally. My first Castlevania was one of my first gaming experiences. NO clue how old I was, but I was little. Tiny nowhere one horse crap town I grew up in, at the time, There was ONE arcade game in the town. Castlevania. In the Gas Station. Good old Quarter Eaters.
i didnt really like dracula x it the movement and actions of richter seemed really sketchy. and u couldent throw weapons as fast when u had less hearts and thats annoying. and u arent really in the castle for most of the game, ur below it or outside it. the final boss battle was very good however. it was a bit different from other Castlevania Games. *Spoiler Warning* there is no well .......... floor. theres pillars that r on varied heights. it was very challenging and very fun

And FFIX=underrated game (just cuz' it's a bit on the old-school style like the six first games and not the FFVII cyber-punk style)
