yes because if we had to vote the 82million people in germany would ensure the president is always german. also if we had to vote every 6 months the turn outs would be abysmal
O'Leary seems to be suggesting that only major investors or major employers have any right to campaign. What an arrogant twit!
By the way, thank you RTE (and the rest of the Irish meeeja) for your unabashed bias throughout the Lisbon campaign. Orwell would have had a laugh! So that's what my TV tax goes to pay for?
*YES SIDE: all international chambers of commerce, most independent economists, 3 main political parties, IFA, IBEC, IDA, ISME, SIPTU, ICTU, most major trade unions, Small Firms Association, Pfizer, Ryanair, Intel, Microsoft.
I am German and I do not need the Irish in the EU. A lot of our jobs have gone to Ireland because of low tax there. As a thanks to us they will vot no. I give a damm about the Irish in the EU. They Should STEP OUT! I would be happy. Another agressive no EU country less that only cost us money. Middle age over there. Look at the discussion above - it is middle ages.
NO vote = we are still in the EU, like we are now, and the EU must be more accountable to the people of Europe. It stops the runaway power of the EU parliament and its gravy train expenses.
YES vote = no way back, we can't undo mistakes made in the treaty or the EU, our say in EU is halved. Some countries say is doubled.
The mature thing is to stand up and tell EU to correct the problems, not to give in to the accusing tut-tutting of EU politicians trying to tell us we should be embarrassed.
I really do hope Ireland votes No. For the good of Europe. Michael O Leary came off as a bully in this, all he had was "i'm an employer" and Ganley was "Dana".
Here in Germany we are protected from large bits of the Lisbon Treaty/Constitution....you are not !
Voting YES will not bring you any gain and voting NO will bring you no loss.
"Germany's Constitutional Court forced the government to approve new laws to repair the damage the Treaty did to national democracy. Since the Irish have not taken similar measures, the Irish people should vote NO to the Treaty on democratic grounds" (Prof.Murswiek,University of Freiburg).

Well done Declan. The prime time debate was brilliant. Thank you for your insight on the truth in this treaty is great. You have brought a light to the people of Ireland and you will be thanked in the future generations. Keep it up. Well done on the new posters they are brilliant. The truth is out at last. Irish Democracy 1916-2009?
NO SIDE: Shinners, Ganley, Socialists, Coir, Eirigi, UKIP, Le Pen, BNP.
YES SIDE: all international chambers of commerce, most independent economists, 3 main political parties, IFA, IBEC, SIPTU, ICTU, most major trade unions, Pfizer, Ryanair, Intel, Microsoft.
People who want to vote Yes clearly aren't aware of the bigger picture. Research "One World Government". Lisbon is a stepping stone towards a global totalitarian state.
I don't trust our political class or those big businessmen/developers/bankers who have helped put Ireland in the sh*t it is in today. It is clear that they want a Yes vote for their own self interest. I'm defintely voting NO.
Read the treaty, and then you don't have to try and figure out who's lying and who's telling the truth.. That would be responsible voting... Henry Ford said "people deserve the government they get", and anyone who votes in favour of this treaty/constitution deserves the results.. Articles 59, 77(3), 118, 222, and Article 335, "...the Union can acquire or dispose of movable and immovable property..." to name a few... READ, LEARN, DISCERN
Michael O'Leary is a complete idiot. It couldn't be any more obvious that he didn't have a clue what he was talking about. We have already voted once on the Lisbon Treaty. We have already made our decision which was a NO vote. It's a DISGRACE that we have to vote again. It has been proven that if all the other countries could vote they would vote NO. People are mistaken if they think voting yes will get us out of the economic crisis. The Lisbon Treaty is a bad deal for the Irish people.
O'Leary can't respond to the points Declan Ganly makes, so instead resorts to personal insults.Sad thing is, the mob may possibly vote 'Yes'. Put downs and mud slinging seem to activate the brains of the fast food munching tabloid reading drones as opposed to actual reason. Do wse ned to be reminded of Shakespeare's Julius Caeser, where Augustus whips the mob into a frenzy against Brutus?
O'Leary knows this, and this is why he resorts to being a See you next Tuesday...
We're voting again because our vote was not respected pure and simple. fearmongering? i'm sure the people first to say that the world economy will crash were called fearmongers as well & look what happened. the YES side's soundbite now is more along the lines of personal insults & fearmongering. this time around only hijacking here is the YES by big money corporations that are run by greedy people, wonder why O'Leary changed his tune to a YES vote this time around. VOTE NO for democratic rights
To the NO voters....read all the comments for this video and take note of how you are all using the same soundbites. As I suspect there's not a huge amount of independent thought among no campaigners..As for this "fearmongering" jibe you're trotting out this time, the likes of Libertas and Coir wrote the book on fearmongering in the last referendum.."abortion, legalised drugs etc." That's why we have to vote again because the last one was hijacked by the peddlers of dogwhistle politics!
Declan Ganley is still dragging out that old quote from Valéry Giscard d'Estaing: "public opinion will be led to adopt, without knowing it, the proposals we dare not present to them directly". The fact is that this quote is taken from an article that d'Estaing wrote which was published in Le Monde newspaper in June 2007. This quote is part of a criticism of unnamed, possible imaginary, persons who might hold this view. He clearly rejects this view in the article preferring "total transparency".
he is right it is the death of democracy. proof we have to vote AGAIN on it. if the EU really respect Ireland like they say they do, then why did they not respect the people's vote? If we vote yes Ireland is not going to return to the way it was 15 years ago as if the treaty is a magic time machine, NO. its Poland's turn now & all the money will go there and 10 years down the line they will get smashed into submission. We need to Vote NO for our democratic rights, its gone passed the issues.
Lisbon will give more power to big businesses to move Irish jobs to Poland and German jobs to Rumania !
The EU cannot leave ireland in the lurch because this would damage the Eurozone !
Germany's leading Lisbon treaty expert (Prof. Schachtschneider) recently said the following to the Irish Times : « With a NO vote, the Irish have the opportunity to save human dignity in Europe."
ABSOLUTELY nobody on the YES side can debate with Declan Ganley ON the issues!! Not one pro-Treaty journalist/antagonist/commentator can participate in debate without referring to "Declan Ganley"!! DECLAN GANLEY IS NOT A TREATY ISSUE!!! Only the NO side seem to interested in the issues!
wake up you idiot, the whole world is being set up for one world order and lisbon is the next step to that goal, ireland voted no and now were voting again its actally crazy, and as for declan ganley and mick o leary, who benifits from the yes vote, ryanair not ganley, and who benifits from a no vote, neither of them. i think that will answer your question on whos tellin the truth
I will be voting no on Lisbon2 because it means decisions that effect ireland will be made by germany, france and britain and we will essentially have no say(or 0.8% of a say).
With regards to the debate i thought o'leary was a disgrace y bringing in personal insults. He isnt interested in the well being of this country, only himself.
What? European Army? I'm sorry, but that actually is a lie. See, I don't mean to be rude, but you are an example of what the NO side have created. A person paranoid over lies. Yes, lies. There will be no army. All of the EU's neutral countries, including Austria, Ireland, Sweden, Malta and Finland are not prepared to give up neutrality. I think their governments would have realised that there was a so-called "army" being set up when they read, signed and in many cases DRAFTED the Lisbon treaty.
I have to say i have been waiting four years to see O leary take a trashing on live t.v.
I believe that debate will go down in history just as the Late late show Interview where Gerry Adams showed up Gay Byrne and the Loyalists Propagandist. Well Done Declan Really hit home with cold hard facts, all we got from o leary was "im a major employer in this country" mmm ok! And your point is?
two big ego's! ganley stripped him to the skinny grabber that he is.
i admire ganley for standiong up for the irish and i am eternally dissapointed that the irish have even accepted a second referendum.
all the comment left here in favour of a yes vote are very suspect.
i'm voting No.
ireland can stand on it's own two feet. it can work woth Europe without giving up it's soveriegnty. shame to the treasonous yes side, they really don't get it.
he says an evil empire, stalinist regime yet shows nothing that they have changed. he says "im no fan of the eu" yet wants to hand them more power. its not a vote to leave the eu either. we arent a bankrupt country which he continues to lie about. article 113 says indirect taxes which "distort competition" must be harmonised. the eu court can rule on it and the veto cant block ECJ rulings. bye bye tax rate! the only safe way to keep the tax rate is to vote no. o'leary contradicts at every point.
You're Welsh and you want to see independence from London rule, yet you want to see Ireland ruled by Brussels? Why would you care about Ireland?
"MAKE A POSITIVE STATEMENT FOR THE FUTURE.
VOTE YES".
By giving in to threats and false propaganda of the yes side? By halving our power in the EU? By harmonising our taxes making Ireland less attractive?
Look at how Germany secured jobs for their workers with OPEL at the expense of Belgians. Why would they care any more for Ireland?
Listening to O Leary as he keeps insulting the individual opposite him rather then his arguments is a rather shallow political action. He keeps saying his opponent does not invest in the country...neither do I. I just happen to live here and work here and generally survive here each day. So therefore unless I am willing to invest a certain amount of money(more then my wages) my opinion is side lined? After listening to this I can see why the no vote is increasing now.
Ireland wake up. Declan Ganley is a good Galway man. We should all be thanking him for saving Ireland. He is the only one telling the truth. Dont listen to the political cartel's in this country who have being bought by europe. O'leary is in it for to squash his ani- competition fines imposed on ryanair by eu commission last year , same as intel. We all know its self interest. O'leary chalanged Declan to a debate and he got torn apart. Nothing to offer only a bully. Vote no save ireland
Funny how you can read what you want into the interview - did you miss the ganley bully bit not to mention O'Callaghan?? Don't forget the conspiracy theory bit - who are you trying fool!!
Absolutely embarassing performance by Michael O'Leary. Offered absolutely nothing. O'Leary was summed up in the end by Miriam ie. 'A bully'. The Yes side have not offered one good reason to vote for this Treaty.
Bully?? If you feel that just turn off the tv or put the paper down. Funny how you agree with Miriam but did she not try the bully bit not to mention Ganley who went from calling O'Leary Michael first and then Mick when he started to lose the debate.
In fairness at least O'Leary made his money legally and in this country, never mind this continent... Oh, and hes Irish. Why is Ganley even debating Lisbon in Ireland?!
Because right now we're the only country in Europe who have been given a referendum on whether or not to pass this treaty. France and Holland opposed it, as did millions of unheard Europeans yet we are the only ones who can actually make their voices heard. It's not just about Ireland.
O'Leary did the exact same thing on Matt Cooper yesterday, throwing insults at the opposition. Michael is in it for his and Ryanair's own good that it !!! Same with Intel there only voting yes because they are appealing a 1billion euro fine for unfair competition in the market.
Ganley roasted O'Leary :). Sorry now you challenged a debate. Hard to Defend lies when someone is speaking the truth. Keep it up Declan. Vote No to save Ireland.
The Yes side scored a own goal having Mick O'Leary talk for them, His argument was childish and I'd say confirmed a lot of peoples fears of a Yes vote. The more he talks for the Yes side the closer this referendum will be.

The Lisbon Treaty is a bad deal for the Irish people.
blahmeowmeow 2 years ago
Ww should never have rejected it the first time
The NO side scared half the people into rejecting it.
This time
Yes will be 80%
No will be 20%
Thank God the internet has no basis in reality.
Jim Corr's nutty website and Youtube page is getting millions of hits.
I rest my case.

if Michael O'Leary is voting yes, thats a good enough reason for me to vote no.

Anthony19byrne 2 years ago 3

Anthony19byrne 2 years ago 2
Make a positive statement for the future ?
Lisbon will give more power to big businesses to move Irish jobs to Poland and German jobs to Rumania !
The EU cannot leave ireland in the lurch because this would damage the Eurozone !
Germany's leading Lisbon treaty expert (Prof. Schachtschneider) recently said the following to the Irish Times : « With a NO vote, the Irish have the opportunity to save human dignity in Europe."
Ireland's own expert Anthony Coughlan agrees.
PLEASE vote NO again !

PonchusMcMuffin 2 years ago

And your point is?

mike o'leary is a good businessman, but only that.
a yes vote is treasonous and is only in the interest of a few.
a No vote is for ireland and it's identity.
shame on our politicians for bankrupting our country then blackmailing us into giving up our rights.

all the comment left here in favour of a yes vote are very suspect.
i'm voting No.

he says an evil empire, stalinist regime yet shows nothing that they have changed. he says "im no fan of the eu" yet wants to hand them more power. its not a vote to leave the eu either. we arent a bankrupt country which he continues to lie about. article 113 says indirect taxes which "distort competition" must be harmonised. the eu court can rule on it and the veto cant block ECJ rulings. bye bye tax rate! the only safe way to keep the tax rate is to vote no. o'leary contradicts at every point.

Ask yourself why the no campaign has to be so hysterical?
Why not calmly state REAL facts and figures?
Consider this before you vote us out into the cold.

In this "debate" Michael O'Leary referred to the independent referendum commission and siptu etc. to back up his statements.
Declan Ganley had to resort to hyperbole.
Is no one else here put off by the fact that Delcan Ganley sounds like a conspiracy theorist e.g. '' this is death for democracy in Europe"
He might as well stand there and exclaim "the end is nigh!!"

After listening to this I can see why the no vote is increasing now.
deeprock2009 2 years ago 3
Ireland wake up. Declan Ganley is a good Galway man. We should all be thanking him for saving Ireland. He is the only one telling the truth. Dont listen to the political cartel's in this country who have being bought by europe. O'leary is in it for to squash his ani- competition fines imposed on ryanair by eu commission last year , same as intel. We all know its self interest. O'leary chalanged Declan to a debate and he got torn apart. Nothing to offer only a bully. Vote no save ireland

WWA2104 2 years ago
Because right now we're the only country in Europe who have been given a referendum on whether or not to pass this treaty. France and Holland opposed it, as did millions of unheard Europeans yet we are the only ones who can actually make their voices heard. It's not just about Ireland.

The Yes side scored a own goal having Mick O'Leary talk for them, His argument was childish and I'd say confirmed a lot of peoples fears of a Yes vote. The more he talks for the Yes side the closer this referendum will be.
