@ShayyWolf its a 1980's film, they probably had a real dog birth, and cat birth, the kittens probably died off, some cant survive from being the runts, or they just got pulled out and mistaken for some other kittens.

I wish they had used the original score by Ryuichi Sakamoto. it had more feeling of the beauty and harshness of the nature of the seasons in Hokkaido.

Anyway, the author/director of this film, Mr.Mutsugorou, who is the owner of the farm and Milo and Otis, is known as the most animal-loving caring person in Japan. it is just so impossible for him to have let animals die in the making of the film! and I remember seeing the behind the scenes, there was always staff around those animals.

@nightshift1000 - the piece at the beginning of this clip is "Simple Gifts" and is part of Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring. Sounds like a little bit of a variation in the beginning. Jim Brickman's version of "Simple Gifts" is very good. I was in Hallmark buying a Valentine's Day card for my wife and heard that Jim Brickman "Simple Gifts" and stopped in my tracks and thought "that's from Milo and Otis"! lol

I'm crying right now, no joke...this movie brought so much of my early childhood memories back.I know almost every word to the movie and song still and i cried when it ended i guess it was just something i was use to, i always did when the movie ended when i was little.This is a great movie and is absolute magic and still every time i watch it i brake down in tears.I visioned myself sitting in my room watching this movie when i was a little girl.Now has a teen i still love this movie deeply.<3

Everyone should show their kids this movie. It teaches about finding friends, your first love, hardships, the miracle of life, growing up...this movie its just pure genius. its heart warming and sad and i love it. the best story of friendship in my book.

I always wondered because it seems like it takes 2 days to find each other and then all winter to get back home, and in the Fall scene when Milo and Joyce + Otis come across the waterfalls all the way from the begining that why they didn't keep following it to the farm since the waterfalls are at the begining of the movie?

Foxes, Deer, Cats, Dogs, and even Raccoons! Oh this is what I've always dreamed of, living with the animals that inhabited fields of grass and plains. I loved this movie so much and I can watch it again and again throughout my life and still love it.
