same theme as WPVI TV 6 in Philly.

I wonder how many other stations use this theme. I remember hearing in in south Florida back in the 70's as well but grew to know it and love it from Philadelphia's Action News theme (Move Closer to Your World)

Yeah, I wonder what sort of royalties Al Ham gets everytime that is played. In Philadelphia it has pretty much been on everyday since 1972. I believe that it is still being used. I'd imagine it has been on so long that if they change it, people would complain.

Aqui en el Peru lo uso el canal 4 entre 1981 y 1986 para su noticiero "America en el Mundo". Anteriormente, el tema musical era el de la peli western "Los 7 Magnificos" (cuyo uso data de 1966, cuando lo uso para el telenoticiero "Marlboro") Entre 1986 y 1988 el tema utilizado para los noticieros del 4 era "Best Endeavours" compuesto por Alan Hawkshaw y que todavia lo usa Channel 4 del Reino Unido. Australia had Eyewitness news on Channel 10 later on at the end of the 70s using the same music. Had no idea the music was that old and that Eyewitness news started in USA first. Great stuff!!!

"Move Closer To Your World" is best known as the "national anthem" of WPVI's Action News in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6abc*com).

They've been using MCTYW since about 1970.

I thought WPVI's first use of "MCTYW" was 1972 . . . it was c.1970, however, that the theme was first used - by WNAC-TV (later WNEV-TV, now WHDH) in Boston. (It moved to Philly after the former WNAC news director took that same position at WPVI.)

The opening theme is "Move Closer to Your World," a television news music package composed by jingle writer Al Ham under his Mayoham Music label. This music package was first used by WNAC-TV in Boston in 1970 (currently WHDH-TV). It's also been the theme for WPVI-TV's "Action News" since 1972. Basically the same, except with 7 instead of 11 at the start and Buffalo-area cities/towns towards the end. WKBW used that opening until the mid-1980s, and the theme until 2003.

Yeah in Asheboro you can get WTVD sans cable...but back in the 70's it wasn't uncommon for local stations to be found on not only its respective cable systems but also in adjacent markets. I grew up in Greensboro and at one time had WXII and WPTF (Durham) on cable as NBC stations.

You're right about that. Once in 1996, WPVI tried to switch to a more thunderous and authoritive version performed by the London Philharmonic. After only five days, viewers started complaining. So they replaced that version with the original.

It took Channel 6 (WPVI) only five days to switch back, since viewer outrage was so overwhelming!

Anyway, if I remember correctly, WPVI is the only station that still uses "Move Closer To Your World".
