The NP 205 was the best - it was gear driven. They also didn't use 10 bolt corporate rear ends ALL of the time - they were an option. They mostly had 12 bolt corporate rear ends in them also, with usually a DANA 44 in the front. I don't know if you're only talking about this truck or not sorry if u were
Hey, I am just wondering if you painted the cap or if you got it like that..or if the 85 was like that stock. I got myself an 82 and it has a white cap that i want to make black. What is the most affective way of getting that done decently? If you can answer that Ill call you my hero lol
@xantheman69x I had a black one i painted white. the windows come out very easily and same with the weatherstrip. went after it with a power sander and some paint and clear coat (wet sanded in between all coats). i used spray paint for the color and a paint gun for the clear. after your done just throw the windows back in and call it good. it has been over a year since i've done it and the paint is holding up very nicely. i also used some Bondo and fiberglass to fill in the seam.

in the 80's K5 blazers, GM REALLY pushed the 305/700R4/3.08 combo....or sometimes if you were REAL unlucky you got one with 2.73 gears.....what dogs. But they were cool looking and kids loved them that's why GM sold so many, they did/still do have a STRONG aftermarket.

@patches1223 In 1986 they went back to the 5.7 and I almost traded my K-5 but could not find fully loaded black w/tan. Matter fact I believe your correct . The diesel was 6.2 & they made so few of them but made most of Surburban guys had the diesel. The army had tons of them.
@kylemlm i have an 83 GMC JIMMY with a stock 379 (6.2L Diesel) i think they only produced the 350 diesel in 1980-1981 & it was crap i hear. the 350 (gas) was the most common. Some older models came standard with a 400ci.
@diegobarragan84 I think you are correct 350 diesel, The early 80's were odd times with GM motors to meet new standards that Feds put out . They only had 305 in gas in 85. I wish GM would bring back K-5 agian since Hummer is drop.

Actually the 700r4 wasn't renamed the 4L60 til 1990 but not like that really matters.
