I remember seeing this when I was 10. I had no clue what the show was (I found this after a good search considering I had no other clues besides an 8 year old memory) I couldn't forget it. This scene was so shocking and I remember being sad despite not knowing the character or the show. It was just so sudden and surprising and I'm sad that I never watched more of this show.
this show was really strong, once while i was watching it my mom passed by and saw the part where Molly Price's character was talking about the time she worked and never saw her kids grow because she was always working, my mom started crying cuz she had to work a lot when me and my siblings were young. Very underrated show.
I don't think the rest of this show will be released on DVD mainly because of music rights. Unless a deal is struck like what Netflix did with the wonder years. A very good show. Sullivan and Doc remind me of people I know in real life.
i cried so much watching this episode -- it was such a brutal death for alex --all i remember is her pretty blue eyes looking up ....carlos was so sweet how her over there to be w/her knowing that there was nothing he could do but comfort her....then her legs are like laying next to her --what a shocking death scene --did not see it coming....alex was one of the toughest NYFD workers out there -- now she can be w/her dad ..... i cried like a baby for quite awhile after this eip
I just happened to notice the label of "alex taylor dies" and it caught my eye. I rarely watch TV and so I never heard of this show...But mannnnn was that a powerfully, devastatingly intense scene or what!?!!!whew!! Now I want to view the whole series-well done!!! Thanks for posting.
I remember watching this with a group of people and all of us were sitting there with our mouths open..one of the most disturbing things I've seen on TV. At least it was quick though, she would have bled out incredibly quick.
Seriously. Did you have to put the blatant spoiler in the title. You could put the episode name and then Alex Taylor? You couldn't put it in the tags? Just right there in the title for people who haven't seen the whole series. You fucking suck man.
@pocomedy Her body was split in half. The legs that she looks over at were her own. There was nothing to be done because her body was severed from the waist down. I remember watching this when it was first on TV and I remember how upsetting and disturbing that scene was...and still is.
@pocomedy There are several injuries in EMS that if a paramedic sees them, they know nothing can be done and death is obvious. They include things like expulsion of brain matter, decapitation, extenuation, and in Alex Taylor's case a complete transection of the body into two. ...which would also rapidly lead to extenuating (or bleeding out). When alex first hits the ground if you watch closely her hand starts posturing (good acting on her part). She is going into hypovolemic shock at this point.
@pocomedy The complete transection of her body and subsequent extenuating blood loss are what killed her. This would have happened very rapidly, however, in the over head shot you can see part of the car on top of Alex. This would have slowed the rate at which she bleed out. This probably is what allowed her to live for a few seconds and talk with Carlos.
A great episode of a Fabulous show, here in the UK it was shown a stupid o'clock in the morning on channel 4 so it never achived the ratings it so richly deserved, another of my fav episodes was After Hours...
@1nikobelic Too true. The way we also had to wait ages for C4 to show the final series was a crying shame. They waited ages until their rights to the final series were just about to run out, then quietly broadcast it in the middle of the night on More 4...
A great show that was, at least here in the UK, treated as the poor relation to ER. (Here, Channel 4 got the rights included when they'd bought ER).
I remember this episode very well when it originallly aired on TV.This scene shocked me ,i was not expecting decapitation,i had to stop watching TW for a few weeks afterwards.Third watch was a very very good show ,i miss good drama productions like this.
that scene gave me nightmares for weeks, and sadly this was the beginning of Doc's downward spiral as we saw in the later episodes where he slowly unravels and comes apart at the seams....
I agree with dbenmil - I cry everytime I watch this scene, especially when she tells them to tell her mother it didn't hurt. I don't remember seeing anything more horrifying on a network TV show. It's also when Carlos stopped being a jerk and really stepped up to the plate.

@Ultrasteve1969 I know this scene is horrible sad, and I hate that they wrote her out of the show but even in death you get to see how funny she was,and how brave and strong she was,I'm sorry it was funny
This episode bothered me more than any other death scene on TV. Her last thoughts for her mother "tell my mother it didn't hurt". Tears me up every time.
OMG in my country this show is still on, today was the episode when Alex's ashes were thrown down in front of Statue of Liberty, so that she could always look at it.
This was soo sad... too bad she died in this way. I remember the episode when she saved a little african american who was diabetic and stuck in a vent. :( how sad...
True , but if this situation was real , no doubt the EMS guys would have been stunned and in shock , so there would understandably be a moment of "wtf" regardless of how professional you were. I gave mouth to mouth to a soldier shot in the chest in afghanistan , even though i could see that there was no hope , but in a situation like that you are "not" treating the victim you are treating his friends , so they can see that everything possible was done
Do you know anything about pre-hospital care? Do you kow anything about REAL EMS? Every patient AT LEAST get's a vitals check. The only time a medic walks away from a dying person is if he is tagging(triage) or if he is abouut to be shot. And ESPECIALLY if that person is a medic. That is just how the buisiness is.
It doesn't matter to me if thats how it's done or not, that doesn't make it a good idea. If there is no chance to save the person, if that person is blow in half for example. More than 1 medic paying attention to that victim is a waste of resources.
I don't think so. A car was on her and smashed her stomach and lower part of her body, she was probably having internal bleeding and losing a lot of blood. There was really nothing much to do, unless they were teleported to a hospital, right in the OR, and the percentage of her surviving would still be very low! Peace
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Being blown in half doesn't mean your gonna die ??! that means no more organs... i don't think people could survive without most of organs.. even without just one is so difficult...
@bokabeed Let's be honest whether we know anything about hospital care or not,the chick was blown in half, her freaking legs were laying beside her.Even if they somehow managed to stabilize her to the hospital she would have lost so much blood,or been brain dead by the time they resucitated her
shyte . i have been a paramedic for 15 years , also did a stint in afghanistan as a combat medic , some times there is NOTHING you can do apart from give a bit of TLC (tender loving care) . People DO die and no matter what we do we cannt save them , if the last words in there ear is comforting it at least gives the medic some comfort that they tried there best
True, and I agree, but it is also important that you bust your ass trying until they die. Even if there is othing that can actually save them. You don't just give the pt the idea they are helpless. They know they are hurt. When you walk away, they see you have given up. Dying in agony, in other words.
My point: if they re alive, you stick with them until they aree gone. And sticking with them does not mean standing over them looking down with an expression of horror.
does anyone remember/know where i can find the clip when Lt. Johnson is the hospital and his wife breaks down and starts yelling at all the firefighters and paramedics? that's one of my favorite scenes from the show and i really want to see it again!
I remember seeing this when I was 10. I had no clue what the show was (I found this after a good search considering I had no other clues besides an 8 year old memory) I couldn't forget it. True , but if this situation was real , no doubt the EMS guys would have been stunned and in shock , so there would understandably be a moment of "wtf" regardless of how professional you were. I gave mouth to mouth to a soldier shot in the chest in afghanistan , even though i could see that there was no hope , but in a situation like that you are "not" treating the victim you are treating his friends , so they can see that everything possible was done

why do you think they would be stunned and in shock? They are EMS,they are prepared for all this !

Nobody could ever be prepared to see the death of a coworker. It's different when you know the person.

Does anyone know where I can find the funeral on the boat? It has that song playing-Do not stand at my grave and cry-.

I love this scene, but I also hate it.
So what if there was nothing to be done. They should've been down and working on her immediately.

Waste a bunch of medics on someone who's gonna die in 30sec rather than help the huge amount of injured all around them? wow great plan
bshaun2 2 years ago 2
Do you know anything about pre-hospital care? Do you kow anything about REAL EMS? Every patient AT LEAST get's a vitals check. The only time a medic walks away from a dying person is if he is tagging(triage) or if he is abouut to be shot. And ESPECIALLY if that person is a medic. That is just how the buisiness is.
bokabeed 2 years ago 2
It doesn't matter to me if thats how it's done or not, that doesn't make it a good idea. If there is no chance to save the person, if that person is blow in half for example. More than 1 medic paying attention to that victim is a waste of resources.
bshaun2 2 years ago
Being blown in half doesn't mean your gonna die. If this was real life, they could've saved her.
bokabeed 2 years ago
I don't think so. A car was on her and smashed her stomach and lower part of her body, she was probably having internal bleeding and losing a lot of blood. There was really nothing much to do, unless they were teleported to a hospital, right in the OR, and the percentage of her surviving would still be very low! Peace
Sweetlolly11 2 years ago
and looks like she was cutted in half, don't you think?? really nothing they can do even if they teleported to an hospital

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Being blown in half doesn't mean your gonna die ??! that means no more organs... i don't think people could survive without most of organs.. even without just one is so difficult...
alexiaashford 2 years ago
Well technically, she didn't die from the lack of organs, her torso was still intact at the time. What killed her was the massive blood loss.

@bokabeed Let's be honest whether we know anything about hospital care or not,the chick was blown in half, her freaking legs were laying beside her.Even if they somehow managed to stabilize her to the hospital she would have lost so much blood,or been brain dead by the time they resucitated her

@xcaliber45 even if they tried, she kinda die in a few seconds..

shyte . i have been a paramedic for 15 years , also did a stint in afghanistan as a combat medic , some times there is NOTHING you can do apart from give a bit of TLC (tender loving care) . People DO die and no matter what we do we cannt save them , if the last words in there ear is comforting it at least gives the medic some comfort that they tried there best
emtuk31 2 years ago 4
True, and I agree, but it is also important that you bust your ass trying until they die. Even if there is othing that can actually save them. You don't just give the pt the idea they are helpless. They know they are hurt. When you walk away, they see you have given up. Dying in agony, in other words.
My point: if they re alive, you stick with them until they aree gone. And sticking with them does not mean standing over them looking down with an expression of horror.

It's the "How am I doin'?" that gets me every time.
Alex is just lying there and doesn't understand, her mind just can't comprehend what just happened to her body.
If I was there, I wouldn't have been able to stop bawling.
