wow if this thing only has 201 hp i cant imagine how much our stock 289 1965 mustang has, all its got is a very nive dual exhuast setup and soon on its way a edelbrock performer intake
I also installed a 1958 Ford Rachero HD Rear end with 11inch ring gear after I ripped the stock one in half. At the time I fabricated and welded traction bars to the lower read end plates. I had to do a lot of grinding to get them to sit on the plates. I purchase the rubber bushings on the end that hit the leaf springs when the rear end torqued!
When I was stationed at the Balast Point Sub Base in San Diego I built a 65 Mustang that would smoke the tires in second and burn the in 3rd and 4th also. I installed a Hurst vertical gate shifter and while I was told that it would not fit street driving I not only drove it everyday I taught my girlfriend Debie to drive it. I did all the work my self including polishing and match porting the heads and intake. I installed a solid lift Crain Fire Ball Cam. I wish I had not had to sell it.
Thats just about right with probably a 289 in there. The 2 bbl had 200hp stock in 65 and would have lost hp since then. I have seen 289's in 67's with 4 bbls pull out 185hp and 282 torque. So it is pretty close.
Yeah, hes right and remember that the hp rating for these things was at the crank not rear wheels and the hp numbers were pulled out of somebodys butt. The "k" code motors that were suppose to have 271 hp really only dynoed at 225bhp so 170-200rwhp is dead on for a mild build 289
What do you have for heads? That's where your power will come from. Get some AFR 165 heads and a 270H cam for a nice street combo. Use a 3.50 gear . A nice combo that would be easy to live with.
ummm, im not sure how you would get more horsepower out of it except some better exhaust and a monster carburetor. but then you are only wasting fuel.
the lumpy idle is due to the cam being "big". However with a smallblock you dont have to get very agressive to get that sound. bad thig is, this baby has some mismatching or has a peice of the puzzle missing.
i don't get why everyone thinks it's hard to get traction with a mustang...if you're running leaf springs just get a mid-eye 5leaf set up with cal-trac traction bars and d/rs or even better m/t street slicks and ull be fine. also if ur going more for handling drop it an inch and put 620 springs up front, if not, put drag shocks. suspension=traction. most people dont get this, they think its all in the tire you have. which is why most ppl know nothing about cars and talk like they do
It helps not to be a leadfoot like I am. I have a stock 289, and I had 4 inch tires on a '65 similar to this one. I was spinning them all the fucking time just taking off. I finally fixed that problem by putting 8 inch tires on the rear, now I have to really work to make them spin. Tires are indeed not everything with traction, but they do make a large difference.
You dont need horsepower for a exhaust system to sound nice...is the car making horsepower when it idles??? um..no so why would you think the power has anything to do with it?
I am in the process of restoring a 65 fastback. not to much done to the moter just header, holly 600,different timing chain, camshaft, and a few other things. its a 289 hi-po, GT, k-code. what kind of horsepower and torque am i looking at
it only made 201HP and 282ft-lbs of torque but my full timing isn't kicking in until about 5,300RPM, and if i close the idle mixture screws, it will not bog down and die like it should, its got a midly built 351W with a T5 behind it, once i get my new springs and stuff from MSD i will put it on the dyno and actually tune it on a dyno...the numbers are very low, seeing as how the engine makes 250HP and 355ft-lbs of torque at the flywheel, but i should still have more b/c that engine aint stock
is 300hp in that mustang fast, im looking into making mine into 400 hp at the shop, but do not know if that is a good idea. did you have to make any suspension upgrdes?
350HP in a classic, depending on gears and trans gears is tough to drive on the street, in wet/rainy conditions it is really hard to keep the tires under it, hell in dry weather, but if you want it, i say go for it, just be veeeeerry careful...
I just finished putting in my 351w, 9.8 compression pistons, rpm cam heads and intake with a 650 carb. What type of gear should i get to add more performance? Right now it is a torque mofo, and want to add better gears to make it even better.
Its very easy to over-power a little Mustang. The brakes and suspension are ancient technology, and combined with many years of use, abuse, gravity, and rust.. 300 HP makes a Mustang very unsafe/unstable. But what a ride!
i have a 67 mustang with a 351 windsor with the edelbrock performer pakage. im only missing the cam but in this winter i will install it. what more than a cam do you have. stock heads? manifold?
I have a 65 Stang that has the original 289 , and with new carb and the original 142,000 miles, she can stile put up over 200 horses: and a new set of rear tires v.s a set on the front. She is GT red with a whie vynal top. My nameis David and I am from Tuscaloosa Alabma.

this car isn't stock, if you look at his other videos its had and engin swap to a 351w and a T5 transmission.

Oh ok sorry I didn't see his other videos. But with a 351 that would be lower than expected.

because a stock motor with a huge cam, intake, and carb will "rumble" but run like dogshit and post equally impressive numbers.
