People in their 20s, 30s and 40s do this style of yoga, but notice that hardly anyone does it past 50. Generally speaking, this yoga is usually given up by the time one hits 50, if not sooner. All the emphasis on jump-throughs is hell on the shoulders; that and the other extreme postures will take their toll, and that's why this is a yoga for the young.
@MrSsfsfsf That's BS I know alot of people past 50 who do Ashtanga, but in your defence it might not be the system to start after 50 ish start with an easier form then move on too Ashtanga.. Just My thoughts take care x
she is amazing! has anyone bought her yoga dvd? if so does it teach you how to get into these postures or does it just show her doing them? thnkyou. peace.
Asthanga Yoga is wasnot devised by Pattavi Jois, He inherited from Krishnama charya. This was on of the forms of yogas Krishnamacharya tought to his students.
Wonderful practice! Yoga is not about comparisons between men and women, or other practitioners, or non-practitioners, or scientific theories. Yoga is a very personal practice cultivating discipline, devotion and faith in the journey. For the diligent practitioner, even hope and expectation will disappear after some time. All that remains is an integral experience like no other.
While females are generally more flexible than males, they often lack the strength to do the more powerful asanas. So they "modify" their styles to emphasise the stretching over the power. Kino has modified NOTHING in her yoga! And what's more, has slowed down and intensified a lot of the more powerful moves.
@unforlorn While giving Kino a compliment, you insulted yoginis everywhere. As an instructor, I have seen many people, male and female who have struggled to do a chataranga pushup with the correct alignment because they lack strength; and conversely I know plenty of yoginis whose strength and control is awe-inspiring. Yoga strength is proportionate to one's own body. Regardless of gender, some people's bodies are just proportionately more strong than others. No two human bodies are the same.
I did a workshop with Kimo years ago in Charlottesville, VA. She is an incredible teacher. I have never seen someone so tiny who was as strong and flexible as she is.
Not only ur postures r graceful but also ur appearance... so do ur teaching...
