I have flown them four times. They are a good airline but it is not a premium air carrier. The old airliners used are pretty rugged and the pilots set them down very gently. I like them and I am going back.

@am1966ath No, I am older. I traveled the old bloc from 1969 - 1989. North Korea today is worse that some of the small towns in the USSR. Call it vegetarianism by force but the diet is minimal. I've stood in bread lines in Romania and that was bad enough. The DPRK is beyond that most probably because of the shortage of disposable income. Markets are being shut down. Harvesting by hand - something not generally done in Romania pre-1989, is done everywhere in the DPRK.

I have flown Air Koryo and it is not bad at all. The airframes on these old planes were overbuilt for cargo. The standards are alright, nothing fancy and for short flights they are safe. I will be flying them again.

You must think that all pilotes which can fly such airplanes are good pilotes. Becouse such airplanes don´t have gps. All navigations goes from hand. In this Airplanes are a crew from 4 people.

Currently they do operate Russian (Soviet) and Chinese airplanes. But unless they want to fly to it's former destinations, they need to get newer aircraft. The Tu-204 is a good start.

Air Koryo only currently opperates a weekly (x2?) scheduled service to Beijing. It is banned from EU airspace due to its top rate safety procedures (yes I am being sarcastic). This airline has to sacrifice parts from other aircraft to keep at least two of its aircaft opperating on the Beijing route. Apparently they have an order for two Tupolov Tu-204's which they will probablty try to pay for with food (provided by the WFP) meant to feed the long suffering North Korean people.
