In July, 1965, on a Friday night, my mom played this song on a Sears Hi-Fi Stereo over and over, and all night. This film was non-existent, so this is a first seeing it on Youtube. Yeah, it is dated, and at the time, being a 7 year old, had no idea, or even cared what the song was about. It brings back memories, though......
I learn soooo much on you tube! Always thought this was sung by Dean Martin!!! The Dean voice surely fooled me. Just love this video...so 60's. Thanks for posting :)
You and your sister can be proud of your grandfather. He had that amazing Dean Martin voice. I think he resembled a young John Wayne. Those who complain that the video is corny must put it in context and remember that it was a product of a much less sophisticated era. My only complaint is that the song itself is politically incorrect in implying that men prefer blue-eyed blondes to brunettes. Be sure to check out the flipside of this 45, "Show Me The Way." You'll swear it's Dean!

Barry Young was my grandfather, I never got to meet him sadly, cause he died when my mom was 2 years old. My mom found this video, and showed it to me. He looks alot like my uncle ^^

First: thanks for posting a great time piece featuring a very good song well done.
However, maybe it was just the times, but it seems to me that the guy in the song and the guy in the video are complete opposities; in the song, the man is resigned to live without true love, but on screen, he's obviously a player, and quite a cad! Am I making too much of this? Heck yeah, but I'm not suggesting at all that this isn't a whole lot of fun to watch-thanks again for posting!
Take the same thing but make it a movie about a woman who is married to someone she doesn't love, but she does love someone else for the rest of her life and make the actress Meryl Streep and you get "The Bridges of Madison County." I guess it's just perspective that makes one a love story and the other a story about a cad and a player. (I still think he's a dolt, his wife irons his shirts, I'd dump the blonde and take the brunette in a nano-second).
Good point about "Bridges," though I always felt that was a sweet love story with a rotten moral center! I think perspective is one thing, but LENGTH is another, bigger factor; We had a lot more time to see and hear Streep's character's story and get her "side" of things...Ultimately, I think you and I are working way too hard on this one! ;)
Funny. lol, nosleep62, in my defense I'll say I wished I wasted more time when I was young, but I'm trying to make up for it now. Actually I agreed with your original post. The story told in the song lyrics and the story told in the scopitone are opposites of one another. But that's the fun of scopitones! Barry Young was a good singer, far underrated.
No, this IS the late Barry Young and NOT the great Dino. I, too, remember hearing the song in the '60's and thinking it was Dean. I've been a Dino fan for YEARS, I'm now 60 and proud of it, and knew during the first few seconds it wasn't Dean but someone who sounded much like him. Recenly went on Amazon and tried to purchase the record but the record company won't release it. I love Dino, but it was good to hear Barry again.
No contest. Go with "Brown Eyes" - she's cuter than Betty Rubble. And as for "Blue Eyes", she's lying to you - her eyes are green. Great obscure video.
Thiswas not alabel-sponsored music video, but instead a Scoptitone, films which played onscreee aakind of pay-TV jukebox in bars, etc. "One Has My Heart" was rranged by ErnieFreeman, who also arranged a lot of songs for DeanMatin. Thiswas Barry Young'sonly hit; over an 11-week run starting 11-6-65, the single reached #13 nationally. OHMN had previously been a 1948 country #1 for Jimmy Wakely.
What's scary as hell is that I heard this on the radio a little bit ago and it perfectly without a doubt describes the exact situation I am in. (I being the blue eyed girl.)
What ever happened to Barry Young? I can't find out anything from Google. I just remember a DJ saying he passed away not long after this record came out.
Rick Anthony was the inspiration for this zany video. He eventually came to his senses and married his lovely blonde Lee Remick lookalike and remains VERY happily married to this day.
The performance owes a lot to Dean Martin, but this was initially a hit by country singer Eddie Dean. Later, Jerry Lee Lewis recorded it during his country comeback phase and had a big hit with it.
I'm glad that even though the ball and chain are very large and marked "ball and chain" the director decided to insert a close-up. Who knows, I have missed them otherwise.
He did sound so much like Dean Martin.

I hate to sound dumb, but who DID actually sing this song? It sounds so much like Dean Martin.

The vocalist was indeed the late Barry Young. Between his voice and the arrangement, I'm sure most listeners initially assumed it was Dino.
