Just a note: Portal 2 Source Recorder doesn't show Gels! This may be good and bad (Good for videos where you pretend that you know how to walk fast, bad for videos that are for walkthroughs, etc.)

The Compression Manager window doesnt open for me when i use Garrysmod or Team Fortress 2 but it works just fine on Portal. What I do is record a demo, then record the best parts with fraps.

I have some demos of more than one hour on team fortress 2 and if I would record everything (including the respawning, useless crap etc) I would have an avi that is like... a lot of Gig.

Not difficult but a little tricky because when you finish recording sometimes you must restart the engine or risk to get cubemaps and model errors that my case when i use garry mod and i already made a 9 mins movie for test purposes and it's around 140 MBs with the dvix codec but damn it took around 20-30 mins to finish but worth it

Fraps usually doesn't lag if your computer is somewhat over decent. On older computers Fraps runs at like 1 FPS.

So what you do is.

- Only older computers use Source Recorder.

- On newer computers, use either Source Recorder OR Fraps.

Fraps isn't shitty, your PC probably just can't deal with fraps. My videos work out fine with fraps. No intense lag spikes. Go ahead and deal with 2gb per min Source recorder, and the time consuming editing it. Merry Christmas ^^
