@Agnesstation Rabbits will often not eat their hay if you are giving them too many pellets. Make sure you only give him a small amount of pellets once a day - an eggcup full is enough. If your rabbit still won't eat it, try different types of hay from different stores since some hay is tastier than others.
I'm Haylie, and i'm buying a rabbit soon. I am looking all over the internet for info about what to feed my rabbit. My rabbit is a baby Rex rabbit that is black with a white arm and chest. Any1 please tell me were to find info for what to feed my baby rabbit. Oh btw my rabbits name is Rumphis OR Rumple, yeah they're pretty weird names lol! THX!!
@Warriorcatsrock543 The main part of your rabbit's diet should be hay - hay should make up at least 80% of his diet. You should use Timothy or meadow hay, NOT alfalfa because this is too rich. You should feed him on a pellet food (not muesli) that is high in fibre - 19% fibre or more is good. I also recommend choosing a rabbit food that is specifically for younger rabbits. Only feed an eggcup of pellets per day.
When your rabbit is 12 weeks old you should start to introduce fresh veg.
@BluOceanBubbles Thanx soo much i learned something today :( I feed my bunny too much pellets!!! Ikes im scared now... will he be ok? And i feed him a bunch of hay per week i gave him a little wood bed for bunnies and i put his hay in it.Also can u tell me how much hay to feed him? Cuz your smart :)
@Warriorcatsrock543 He'll be fine; just make sure you start feeding him only an eggcup full per day (though you might want to cut down on the pellets gradually). Pellets are very rich so rabbit's only need a small amount. :)
A bunch of hay per week isn't really enough - rabbits need unlimited hay, so you should supply him with fresh hay every day. So just make sure he has a constant supply of hay (don't worry, hay won't make your rabbit overweight).
My rabbit had cedar shavings in his cage. When we tried to litter box train him with kitty litter, he would just lay down in it. Caused quite the mess when he got out! Finally we put some cedar shavings in the litter box and he finally caught on to the litter box while he was out running around.
@OMFGILoveDrake No. Apsen shavings are very bad because when they come into contact with urine the shavings release harmful toxins - shavings are also uncomfortable and dusty, so can cause respiratory problems with rabbits. Bunnies don't necessarily need bedding; you can use fleece blankets instead. For litter you should use recycled paper bedding like Carefresh or Yesterday's News.
My bunny won't do anything when he doesn't get his citronella pine wood shavings. You just have to watch for high quality shavings they use for horse-boxes and such and don't smack the top on the litterbox (if you even want to use a top) immediately.
Aside of that, another reason not to use the clay clump litterbox-stuff, rabbits tend to eat them, and yeah, even in the stomach they clump together and you can all guess what happens next. And they dig in them. XD Leaving your house one big box.
@gagaxxxbaba they were prob drying to sort out who is boss males aren't usually kept together as far as I know, I don't know if it's different if they are from same litter but better bonding them with a girl
@the mga93 it could be fur mites maybe rabbits get bald patches in hard to reach places if they have fur mites, ours got them between the shoulder blades and lower back, treated with a spot on treatment for a few weeks mate to kill all eggs
is that train as you can put hay stuff some where else in the cage and the rabbit will still poop in the box or you still have to put the hay in the box and the rabbit with always go in the box
i have 2 rabbits both male i tried putting them together for some company and they just started fffking each other so i dont think they are going to put together again and yeess both are male too???
Um well firstly, timothy hay, is good and all but I wouldn't suggest putting it in a litter box, considering it's where they um crap. They could eat the crap accidentally if you don't pay attention while there shitting*pardon this language* and then they eat the timothy hay, they could end up eating there crap, nice try, but I wouldn't use timothy hay in a litter box.Timothy hay is good to train rabbits tho,I've tried carrots and fruit but my rabbit listens to me when i use timothy hay,.xD
@Ksflippy That's pretty much what I was getting at...
If you put hay in there litter box, they could accidentally eat there own droppings..I've seen it happen, it wont harm them but if you ever see a bunny eat there own droppings, it means there not getting there nutrition food like they need. That's all I was simply getting at.I'd put the hay outside the cage so it's more comfortable in it's surroundings.
@stephanieguedea bunnies will eat their own poo occasionally. it keeps their intestinal bacteria and vitamins regulated. if they are doing it a LOT is when it becomes a concern.
@YugiohGeek123 mmmm i think u can but be careful what wood shavings u buy cuz i had a friend u got a hamster she uses wood shavings and he had a screched hey im sooo sure u can use wood shavings cuz it covers the smell off poos lol
my rabbbit uses a litter tray, i use saw dust and hay i have never used litter pellets . i think some rabbis just do it any way i put a rabbit litter tray in her courner where she usuallly does hher bussinness and she just automatically used it , she uses a cat letter tray now because she is too big for a rabbit litter tray now !!!! xxx
I'm trying to litter train my rabbits, and i'm putting down newspaper. My only concern is whether or not they are using soy based ink or not? One seems to think they may be using a vegetable based ink, but I'm worried that the newspaper may bother them.
help? my bunny uses the litter box, but she poops everywhere else as well. i put her food next to the litter box, and she sits in it ALL THE TIME and just eats and does he business as well as sleeps. what do i do to make her poop ONLY in the litter box, but spend time outside of it as well and know to go in there to do its business???
@aviswifey1808 Sometimes rabbits will do this as a form of marking their territory. Do you have other animals in the house? My first rabbit was completely potty trained until we got a second one; then she started pooping everywhere else.
I had two rabbits. One woudl wait outside her litter box and look at me angrily and come over and nip me if i didnt clean her litterbox within 5 mins. The other would simply be like thumper. She would thump the litterbox and flip it over thereby forcing me to clean it lol!
That's awesome that you put these together - could you please do one on bunny proofing your home? I can't stand people that cage their pets 22/7!! My wife and I made an awesome 15 square foot cage for less than $100 and she knows its her home...we let her out all the time when we're not working and she absolutely loves our cat. Happy bunnies make a happy bunnytoes666!!!!
when my dad was a kid, his family had a couple rabbits that would go outside to relieve themselves. All they had to do was leave the front door cracked open. The rabbits would go outside for a minute, do thweir business, and come back in to lay down.
You gotta watch those back legs. They will scratch the hell out of your arms if you're not careful. Don't believe me? Do it. Just don't complain the next day if you look like you got into a fight with Wolverine.
@southport97 i agree. i've been scratched really deeply by a rabbit that kicked off my hand for no apparent reason :( it wasnt uncomfortable or anything but it just reacted violently out of the blue.
@expertvillage i have owned rabbits for 10 years now and they are very easily litter trained. I have 1 rabbit at the moment, a juvenile and it cannot be litter trained, I tried the picking up and placing the rabbit in the litter tray method. Moving it's faeces and urine into it too. Nothing works and she poos everywhere in the house despite her litter tray being available - and not just to mark areas. Help!
A good short video on how to litter box train a pet rabbit. Rabbits can live in the house like a cat or dog. They are very clean and will soon use their litter tray. Give your rabbit a special spot in one room with food and water and litter tray nearby. They like a spot near a glass door where they can see out and take in some morning sun.
Based on the house rabbit society website... it's helpful to start in a cage with a litter box and when the rabbit comes out of the cage have one or more litter boxes in the area where he is playing. I have 2 5-6 wk old rabbits and am choosing not to keep them in a cage. I have two litter boxes ( I use a large plastic tupperware container). I use Carefresh Ultra with Alfalfa Hay in there with it. There are still some accidents but they are young and will learn.
