Old man? You're younger than all those guys, may they be in 20's or 30's, who all they can do is to be in front of a computer screen and lose age and vitality every freakin' year.
just favorited this video because it is truly one of the most inspirational pieces of video out there. I have spinal problems that I was born with and still lift 3-4 times a week to not only strengthen my back like therapy but also to get stronger to prove the point to other yazoos out there that age is just a number and handicaps are just a state of mind... Thanks for posting this because I'm going to use this guy as further inspiration for myself and others!
Great form. Don't call yourself an Old Man though. Your far better than the roided up muppets I see on youtube and down the gym. Your obviously young at heart and keep it up.
arched back = bad disks? whell, flat back = fucked up shoulders. trust me, grampa has probably been lifting for a long time, he knows what he's doing. most people can't even touch that in their twenties.
@secutorclaudius Well an arched back during a bench press will not cause any back damage as all the stress is on the shoulder, elbow and wrist joints. The reason people arch their backs during bench presses is to change the angle of the press and untilize they pecs to the maximum. Besides an arched back is when the back is flexed forward (not back like it is here) and is usually mentioned when squatting and deadlifting and so on.
any man that ever tells me that he,or she is to old to weight train, will get a back hander from me....this man shows you that you are never to old...THIS VIDEO IS VERY INSPIRATIONAL.
Guys if i seemed arrogant and cocky with my post I appologize. I am just trying to express not everyone is a fitness oriented wussy man. Some people lift hard and heavy and know what they are doing.
Does anyone know anyone that has degenerative disk from bench pressing? Oh he's going to do this, he is going to do that, he needs a spotter. Who was the guy standing over him on that last lift, could it have been a spotter? He knew what he was capable of and when he was not sure, he had a spotter. Just shut up and lift you wusses. Glutes on the bench, slightly arched back, squeezing the shoulder blades together, slow controlled decent, no bouce, pause and back up. Perfect.
Does anyone know anyone that has degenerative disk from bench pressing? Oh he's going to do this, he is going to do that, he needs a spotter. Who was the guy standing over him on that last lift, could it have been a spotter? He knew what he was capable of and when he was not sure, he got a spotter. Just shut up and lift you wusses.
@bb0yba0 Risk of what? Obviously by the amount of weight this guy is lifting, he is not a novice. I am sure he knows how to get out from under the weight if he can't get it up. Let the weight fall off the bar or do the roll of shame. Grow some.
@shaunmano letting 200 lbs roll off is gonna be hard, especially for a 68 year old and i wasnt doubting his abilities either. i was simplly saying that having no spotters is less safe than having spotters, i dint say that it was particularyl unsafe for him.
@bb0yba0 I Didn't mean to sound so snappy, I just think having a spotter all the time is a little exaggerated. I lift all the time without a spotter although I think the idea of going to failure on every set is ridiculous. Only when I am not sure if I will be able to complete a set or lift a certain weight do I ask for a spotter, which if you notice in the video this guy did. No anger here. Thanks for the reply.
I bet this guy is waiting for some young punks to try and beat him up but this guy will rip off his shirt and be all muscle. At that point, everybody will know that they fucked with the wrong guy.
hey nice... dont let people tell you this is bad for you or this isnt your thing... Thats bullshit! Your healthy man, you dont need people telling you this is bad for you. Its good. Keeps your bones in great shape. I just hope 45+ years from now i can see myself doing this.
cant tell, but that looks like an olympic bar... so all those lifts are 20kg heavier than it says! the 120kg looks like 3 x 20kgs on each side... that isnt including the bar!
@Gannondalf You should know if u have been lifting that Black = 10kg. Yellow = 15kg. Blue = 20kg and Red = 25kg. And an olympic bar weighs the same as the others, just that the weight is perfect of 20kg.
@mra2z Are you shitting me? See the way his back his arched? Wanna know the #1 way to degenerative disks? Arching your back when bench pressing. Good control, terrible form.
@Anarchyffan Call me crazy, but the New England Journal of Medicine, does not state bench pressing as the #1 enemy of the vertebrae. As a matter of fact they don't mention it at all as a contributing factor to disc degeneration. Weird. Now do YOU "wanna" know the #1 reason for disc degeneration? Hint: It's not benching with an arched back.
for those who don't know the average guy should at least bench 100 lbs. A strong man can 200 lbs. Once you get over 300 lbs. Usually you're an athlete.
haha theres this old guy at the gym that i go to lifting about 220 but he is a trainer and hes in really good shape i wanna be in that shape whn i grow get that old ahha
Impressive! Who is this guy? I'd love to talk to him and maybe learn something. I'm an older guy too but can barely get 300 now and then. Not enough info around about 55+ weight lifting.
