This sort of stammer is also one way in which Brits avoid appearing too self-confident - see Hugh Grant's 'charming befuddlement', to speak with 'Family Guy'. Of course, with chameleons such as Gary Oldman it's pretty much impossible to tell when or whether he is being himself. My suspicion is that many great actors see interviews, DVD commentaries, and behind-the-scenes as yet more acting practice and try out different masks when presenting 'themselves'. Who knows, maybe they are always acting.
He fucking rules period. DRACULA was my fav.of him He may never get the Oscar but neither did Lon Chaney or Peter Sellers who are IMO the best to ever act on film.
you guys need to chill out. Gary Oldman's a fantastic actor. Everyone stutters a bit when they talk- especially British actors (with the exception of Daniel Radcliffe, my lord that boy can talk fast!). Whether he stutters or not, that doesn't change his ability to act well. I don't know about anyone else, but frankly, I'm disgusted with how rude and childish some of the comments below are. Calm down, guys. Geez, it's just an interview....
Judging by interviews, Gary's always been a bit slower of speech when he's really trying to articulate his answers, and it's true he stammers a bit as he maps out his responses sometimes. He's a thinker, and thinkers will stutter every now and then. This doesn't make hi a 'stammerer' though. You'll find that in lighter conversations that don't require serious thought, his speech is very fluid and confident. But stammer or no stammer, whatever he has to say is gold.
Listen people, it's true that for some reason he's been stammering in interviews after doing TTSS. Maybe he picked it up from someone on set, because that can happen...
It is also true that he doesn't have a stammer normally.
I've picked up a stammer before. All it takes is a conversation or two with someone else who is stammering.
Someone who lies is a liar; somone who steals is a thief, but someone who stammers isnt a stammerer. I guess I ought to have paid better attention in those philosophy classes because I am missing something. KayWildcat knows better though and thankfully she is ready to let us know what a real stammerer is. Ha, ha.
@NestoriusAlpha Philosophy class? You have just provided the ultimate example of common close-minded thinking. It's the idea of one who has lied....being labeled as a "liar" for a long-term sense.
Gary Oldman stammered here, doesn't mean he is a stammerer...if you are incapable of comprehending the basis of this...then you should revisit school from an early stand.
It's great to know you have never stammered in your entire life...but MANY of us have...yet not "stammerers"...
@KayWildcat Hey Kayleigh, say hi to your boyfriend Chris for me will you. He's kinda cute--in a chipmunk-ish sort of way. Happy one year anniversary bebbe.
@NestoriusAlpha I have a lot of respect for people who live in England--especially Liverpool with the whole Beatle thing and all. I wont be back on here-- I am going to leave you to your nice happy little life. Peace to you and yours.
@KayWildcat Can I give you some friendly advice Kayleigh Dalzell, and I really do mean friendly for I dont take offense easily, but I did an internet search and in ten minutes I found out what you had for dinner the other night, who your boyfriend is, where he lives where you live ,and I saw photos of your nice looking family. Please for god sakes if you are going to provoke people invent a YouTube name that cant be traced back to your real identity. Not everyone out here is OK with argument.
@KayWildcat And yes, you win, I am walking away, but please take my advice on the identity thing. Now, I have to go to bed because I have school in the morning. I am tired and am behind in my homework.
I don't think that the roles he mentions are the best ones. He's a very talented actor and he's extremely fascinating in different movies like "Prick Up Your Ears", "Leon" or "The Fifth Element" for example.
@lylymad He was asked about his favourite roles to play, not the ones in which the audience liked him best. He's awesome in every movie I've seen him in, imo, but every artist has their preferences that the audience might not share :)
@ZRedPoppy I know he was asked about his favourite roles to play. As a fan of his work, I just wanted to express my opinion, highlighting other roles he played with an uncredible talent...
@NestoriusAlpha He's an actor......no matter what he keeps as for who he truly is......he is capable of transform into any character he's willing to play....hence the "stammering" means nothing..
@KayWildcat Of course he is an actor and of course he is able to transform into any character--I never disputed that. He is also a man living in the 21st century and he speaks English and is wearing glasses. That still doesnt mean that in this video he isnt stammering and that I was surprised by it. He IS stammering--how can this be a point of frickin contention?! It means nothing? Have you ever stammered? I...I...I...do...ont think...so...so.
@NestoriusAlpha "Have you ever stammered?" - Please tell me you're joking....if not...that's just really stupid. Of course I stammered...however the term "stammerer" is what got to me. I never denied the fact that he is stammering, just the fact that he could be one to just have his dialect be in such constant state. When I'm nervous I could easily find myself stammering...it's not often, but I have friends who are closer in such views, despite the experience found through time.
@NestoriusAlpha lol now you're just asking to get trolled lol. But I won't. She was being sensitive to the idea that ppl might create untrue preconceptions about Oldman... you seemed to be worried about being wrong. I generally dont even look at youtube replies, because they are generally a huge waste of time anyways. I'd rather deal with a real person in front of me. Boring moments on a sunday afternoon call for posts like these though.
@bobby666x Another lonely person? Why dont you just let my comments die on the vine if you dont like them? By responding you give them energy--you feed them. But you couldnt resist could you? I find it interesting how people justify bad behavior to other people. I am asking for it? Just like the woman who wears a bikini to the park or the guy in traffic deserves road rage because you dont like the way he drives? I have been raised to believe that there is no justification for bad behavior.
@bobby666x I also find it quite annoying when other people enter a quarrel not their own so they can play The Attorney. Usually it is males who believe they need to come to the rescue of the female. Is this what is going on for you--are you a rescuer? It is a rhetorical question; of course you are!
@NestoriusAlpha wow.....so your immature.....I don't think I've ever thrown a direct insult prior to this point...I was just saying that I don't think Oldman is a stammer. However, if you need to be a moronic jerk, then go ahead.
@KayWildcat Of course he is a stammerer---jesus just listen to the man. There is no shame in that, but fat peaople are fat and people who stammer are stammerers. i cant even believe that i am having this conversation. Fortunately school is back in tomorrow and you "shut-in" philosophers will have to get on without me. Ghandi said when people start to call you names it means that you are winning, so, thank you.
@NestoriusAlpha For the last time, no he's not....just because he is stammering...does NOT mean he is a stammerer. If you have seen enough of his interviews, you'll understand that in situations where he seems to be quite comfortable he does not stammer at all....but clearly you are too close-minded to accept open possibilities.
@KayWildcat Now you are just getting downright nasty. Of course I am sure you are telling yourself I deserve it. You dont even know me. Do you have to keep going? Really. Why dont you just walk away. Tomorrow and the next day and the next I wont even be on here--I will be out in the world teaching and learning and living life. What will you be doing, watching judge shows and looking through YouTube for people with whom you can argue? Common Kay, go take a dance class and get out of the house.
@NestoriusAlpha "Now you are just getting downright nasty" - Funny. I love how I'm still trying to prove a point with all my comments referring back to the core of this argument, while you are the one who is just throwing meaningless replies. All I am trying to prove is Oldman is not a stammerer and you clearly can't prove otherwise so you have to be aggressive and immature. It really isn't me who should walk away...it's you.
This sort of stammer is also one way in which Brits avoid appearing too self-confident - see Hugh Grant's 'charming befuddlement', to speak with 'Family Guy'. Maybe he's stammering because there's a very serious, staring audience gawking at him while he's trying to think. I would have shat myself, tbh.
