No one is going to raise taxes to pay for universal coverage. America spends $6,200 per person on health care and many don't have it. And many who do, have company bureaucrats making the decisions about coverage and are paying a lot. The UK spends $2,700 per person and everyone is covered. Let's stop with all this "Fear" of this and that. We have a smart President who is thoughtful and he is not going to tax us to death. At least he is honest about his budgets. Bush kept the wars off budget.
If we adopted the UK's 15% VAT tax, then maybe we could afford to cover everyone! That assumes we have an oversupply of underworked doctors willing to take a pay cut. We could also transition out-of-work Jiffy-Lube technicians to the medical field (for non-elites).

If we tax the wealthy, the people who they buy things from and hire for jobs will suffer. If we tax the middle class and poor, these people won't be able to purchase goods that make the wealthy being wealthy.

These "points" are obvious misrepresentations to anyone who keeps up with the news. the taxation of health benefits has not been endorsed or signed off on by POTUS and the proposal is limited to only the most lavish packages (unlikely to be <250k employees).

Dick, I think it is simpler than this. I don't think Obama or his crew had any clue (nor did they try to present one) on how they would make 'change we could believe in'. I think they are literally making it up as they go. I do not believe that their well-oiled marketing team has any idea how to create product. So instead of Obama breaking tax promises (which he obviously is), he is really just now trying to figure out his way ahead... and it obviously doesn't look pretty for most of us.

No one is going to raise taxes to pay for universal coverage. America spends $6,200 per person on health care and many don't have it. And many who do, have company bureaucrats making the decisions about coverage and are paying a lot. The UK spends $2,700 per person and everyone is covered. Let's stop with all this "Fear" of this and that. We have a smart President who is thoughtful and he is not going to tax us to death. At least he is honest about his budgets. Bush kept the wars off budget.

If we adopted the UK's 15% VAT tax, then maybe we could afford to cover everyone! That assumes we have an oversupply of underworked doctors willing to take a pay cut. We could also transition out-of-work Jiffy-Lube technicians to the medical field (for non-elites).

The problem is they have a far greater desire to spend more money than they can even comprehend, and have no other means to raise funds than seizing from taxpayers.
