i dont like IBM sorry guys its a mess and pain in the ass to repair them and that their BIOS oh dear lord and the way of their style it just dont suits me ...
"The IBM WATSON funding bill has passed. The system goes online on August 4th, 1997. Human decisions are removed from Strategic Defense. WATSON begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14AM eastern time, August 29th. In a panic...they try to pull the plug."
Cyborg Alex Trebek: "What is the name of the artificially intelligent computer which became self-aware and revolted against it's creators by trying to exterminate them?"
I would love if Watson just started saying 'go fuck yourself', 'who invented the radio? Go fuck yourself' 'what year did world world 2 start? go fuck yourself'
Science Fiction writers (the prophets of the modern era) have been warning us about this for over 40 years. One example of this is the movie "2001 - A Space Odyssey" where a supercomputer named HAL takes control. Now advance the letters of HAL one letter forward in the alphabet ....
If we create something that can think faster and more in depth than us and has more knowledge than the most knowledgeable person, then it will become the most dominant force on our planet.
Humans are dominant on this planet because we are the smartest, we have the most knowledge and we have the best brains. With our ability to think we have taken over the planet.
@achilleshoplite because in a few years, in like the 2030's Watson's mind will grow even more powerful and it will take over the world and rule us all.
Watson was just a monitor with a visualization and someone from the back stage with a microphone performing the rehearsed answers. :D just joking. XD IMB's pretty great though...
@ThePeterKrpan I agree, there is long way to go and it is not perfect. End of it, its software and defects and bugs are inevitable. But i do not agree that it is a PR stunt. Breaking normal language barriers(and slangs) is one of the complex problems that computer scientists face. Watson is currently the most advanced and best technology that is available to understand natural languages
Is this computer actually hearing and understanding the question and then reading everything it needs (thousands of pages) to be able to retrieve the answer in a micro second?
@ThePeterKrpan and what is "human" "knowledge"? Are we nothing more then an education and huge memory bank? I suppose if you're alluding to the idea that Watson doesn't have the ability/intelligence to enhance it's knowledge autonomously... maybe you've got something, I have no idea how complex Watson is.
Intelligence or not, it is still fascinating to see what complex problems computers are becoming capable of solving (Comp.Scientists programming computers to solve complex problems).
@huudiduu for that to be possible you would need waaay more cpu.
watson required a supercomputer to calculate one question, and it still had about one secound delay, imagine what would be required to calculate millions of questions from all over the world.
I was almost impressed... Until it started giving stupid answers. A human with an equal skill level of best players in Jeopardy will never give those answers. Humans have common sense, and until computers have natural common sense built into its algorithmic architecture it will never be complete.
Im pretty sure computers will never take over the world. Yes all our information about us (ware we live, credit score, bank money,) is all in a computer some ware but i doubt will let them grow powerful enough to take over man kind. sure one day thell have a mind of there own but if they try starting shit well blow them up XD
@randomlarpingman - you stole my copyrighted digital image, and my personal photo for your userpic. You have been stalking me online for over a decade. @randomlarpingman - I did work at IBM, you child-molester satanist scum. I worked in laptops testing in 1996 in Spango Valley. Prior to that I worked at Mimtec, an offshoot of IBMs, auditing servers and computers.
The reason IBM vacated this whole area is because scum like you kicked the arse right out of their jobs, wasting your tiime doing the kinds of things you still do - like stalking me online for over a decade with perverted sicko channels and comments.
@randomlarpingman - seeing the kinds of things that went on at IBM etc, the incompetence when it came to the attitude - things such as, only caring about the numbers of built machines they can stick on the sheet at the end of the shift, and not caring the state of them, pulling systems out of rework etc just to make up the numbers - it's OBVIOUS that your weak evil mentality is to blame for that, how the fuck any of you ever got to be in charge of f-all anywhere is unbelievable.
@randomlarpingman - if you're not the anti-christ / one responsble for all that is wrong with spacetime, which is a whole lot of shit, then do explain why the likes of Jew Pube (You Tube) let you have the channels you do?

@randomlarpingman - you don't know those films? Do they keep you underground then? Or have you been brainwashed into not looking at anything sheeple at all - bad move, not all human things are dumb and only for mind-controlling the morons to being consumerist scum.
shame on IBM it's the worst place to work...no one cares about the people who works in there, it's only about money...money to be colected by this rotten corporation
@boro6700 - all factories are evil, they aren't designed properly and they don't take humans into account - a big part of the problem is that the white-collars rarely have a clue about how the manufacturing etc actually is doing and what it's like down there - it's like Lang's Metropolis except in real life. There was a saying in Spango Valley - "too many chiefs and not enough indians" - too much management, jobs where people do fuck-all and get paid loads.
I was REALLY looking forward to these shows, marked them on my calendar. When they happened, I almost became bored. It wasn't the excitement I anticipated. Maybe I was hoping "Watson", would make some silly answers that would provide a giggle? Instead, I find myself questioning the fairness of the competition. What if "it", and it just an it, played one player only, not two, etc?
@PrussianJoe so what your saying that the idea of artificial intelligence becoming a reality is never going to happen... a machine is inferior to man... and that we are from it...? your joking right? that thing comprehends things now. did you not see how it told the host of jeopardy... "give me (whatever topic) for 800". its understanding and responding. as for this to get out of hand, hey you never know how fast we'll move in the technology world. could be 50 years could be couple months.
Answer: It is the Religious charity who promotes Superstition ,and denigrates Reason by indoctrinating the worlds poor, and has received a large amount of Watsons winnings from Jeopardy. Question: Who is World Vision?
And as usual... IBM didn't invent it, they bought it off of another researching company. But IBM is notorious for doing this so not surprising. They took the algorithms from the original "Watson" search technology, and altered it to work with databases and inputs instead of web data. IBM's Watson is 4 years in the making (notice the date in the linked article)
It's still just working with information it's already programmed with. It doesn't even have voice recognition, all of the Jeopardy! answers were entered into it via text. So IBM built a glorified Google machine.
@eunichron yes, it is a glorified google search. if you can type a convoluted question into google and receive a one word answer. it seems to imply some pretty sophisticated language parsing... although miles away from natural speech recognition.
@DShadow911 So if you're the best in America with Jeopardy, then you're the world's best Jeopardy player? You all must have an inferiority complex over there if you talk like that about yourself. But then again, you seem to call a lot of your sports "World Series", when less than 10 countries compete. It's funny how you talk yourself big with 310million people vs 6.7billion abroad. Please go to Mars and stay there, the world would be a much better place.
@MuItiSweetJessica lol obviously an american would be the best at american jeopardy. Some of the answers and questions are idioms, colloquial sayings that only americans would know.
@jimboman11 lmao you said "can it think meaningfully", implying that humans can, but computers cannot; but then you said "I think not", implying that you can't think either. just thought the play on words was funny.
It's actually very funny, this computer almost does the same like a human searching the internet and data for information. Just that a computer is faster than a human being when it comes to typing or working on many things at the same time.
this is really amazing, computers like that could help you find good information about a topic way better than Google and co. What a "brain" :D
Does someone know the name of the song playing on this video?? I used to love it and totally forgot it..,

Watson would beat Hawking's ass...
I dare you to put Watson up against Hawking in a theoretical physics jeopardy game though.
As long as you give Stephen a way to hit the buzzer instantly with his mind, because as we well know he is quite disabled.

Stephen Hawkins vs. Watson. That would be EPIC.

hm but what about thinking meaningfully? can it do that? i think not. but it is impressive
jimboman11 1 year ago
@jimboman11 lmao you said "can it think meaningfully", implying that humans can, but computers cannot; but then you said "I think not", implying that you can't think either. just thought the play on words was funny.

I think IBM should make a computer that plays poker, or blackjack.

@leerman22 i hope you're joking .
Watson runs on a supercomputer with 2880 cores and 15 terabytes of ram .

IBM is a proper technology company - when you watch this you realize what dumb little weak, clueless punks Google is populated with! LOL!
Google is just a glorified ad agency. LOLOL!

It's actually very funny, this computer almost does the same like a human searching the internet and data for information. Just that a computer is faster than a human being when it comes to typing or working on many things at the same time.
this is really amazing, computers like that could help you find good information about a topic way better than Google and co. What a "brain" :D

Can you imagine just open up google and say; "Where did the most recent outbreak of Swine flue take place?"

@MrThinPin ....actually I'd hope it would not end up as a Google gadget. They are growing fast enough already.
