A rotary engine is a fantastic piece of machinery you just have to understand that it is a completely different animal than a piston engine. I am a Mazda Rx7 owner and I love my car, super reliable, it is much quicker and much more responsive than any piston engine car I have ever driven. But it takes training to get the most out of a rotary.
@turbisios you didn't say that rx 8's engine is a 1,3 liter, and audi's engine is a 2 liter.. when audi make a 1,3 with 231 hp you can compare this two engines.. the wankel reach 9000 RPM!!! audi's 2 liter TURBOCHARGED reach 6500 RPM. 1,3 liter mazda sounds lika a ferrari!!! 2 liter audi is the same of a golf gti... There are quite a few RX8s out there (around thw world) having mileage that are more than 100 000 km and have no problems with the engine. So, I think you should not over-generalise here. Every car has its own fair share of problems.. VW and Audi also have their own, engines or their dual-clutch gearboxes. I am not saying RX8 is better than TT or vic versa, they are unique and good in their own rights. But you shouldn't write RX8 off in this manner.

And I can tell that it is an experience from another world. That car has a soul. If I talk about HER, I cant think of any other words than beatiful, breathtaking, proud, elegant and so on. I donť care, if it is slower that that awful-looking Mazda. Its perfect in any way and the V6 engine is one of the best in world.

@blazedafrodon if you have such a low budget for the car, then you obviously will have a low budget for insurance. there is not a chance you can insure that mate, and plus, being a rotary engine, you will only get 20mpg at best

The RX-8 really is a terrible car, Apex seals, started motors, coils, MPG, oil, the list goes on. You need to babysit them as with other cars you can just use them. The way a car should be....
I can honestly say that after personally driving all 3 of these cars, the Alfa just doesn't feel like it's got anything under the bonnet and the Audi feels too much like a school run coupe but the RX8 is just designed for people who love to drive and don't complain about the low MPG and high running costs. RX8 all the way :D

Quit acting as if you'll be able to pass a turn 20mph higher than a mustang because won't. You're looking at a 10 mph difference and a very NARROW amount of time to try to pass and from there keeping the mustang behind.
@Texarmageddon Still, there is a big different between how fast a car goes trough corners, and HOW it goes trough corner. Mustang might go trough corner at about same speed as RX-8, but it will feel nowhere near as agile or fun or balanced. There a difference between speed and balance / driving characterstic. Thats why they call BMW the ultimate driving machine...not because its the faster than other, but because of HOW it drives...how balanced and responsive it feels, how nice it drives.
@derbigpr500 As far as fun goes.... Opinionated just like the titled BMW because there are far superior cars out there that are cheaper and handle better. I even vouch for the RX-8 in that case. There are numerous ways to win. You can choose a power monster or a powerless handling champ. Power monsters are usually heavy and the powerless are usually light.... unfortunately, the RX-8 fights nowhere in there.
@derbigpr500 I know, they probably haven't even driven one for them to say that. The Rx-8 has the best handling out of anything in it's price range. And remember, the Rotory engine has it's advantages such as its really smooth in everyday driving (my dad owned an rx-7), its very compact and lightweight. Just wait until the next gen rotory engine that will be in the next rx-8. By the way, isn't the mustang the only car that still has a live axle?

I don't know why do the guys in Top Gear keep liking Mazda's because even though they're cheap like other Japanese cars, they're generally less efficient, and perhaps other than the MX-5 you can't find many people who like Mazda's.

@Hohenstaufen100 Alfa's are notorious for their bad reliability record, they tend to break down often. And also, i dont find them good looking at all! just a personal opinion though.

i have an audi tt now and i had a mazda rx8 before and i felt like my mazda was the "pretty" car and my audi is the "racing" car... the mazda is a lot more comfortable and luxurious... the audi is cramped and the cupholders piss me off lol.

@kalevra78 Mustang is slow, it cant go around corners....even with extra power that it has it wouldnt beat an RX-8 on track.... mustangs handling is like truck handling...it goes around a corner, and thats it. It gives zero feedback, zero confidence, zero enthusiasm and zero fun.

@derbigpr500 The rotary burns as much gas as V8 truck. Second all the power is in the top end which is going to be bad coming out of turns. Quit acting as if you'll be able to pass a turn 20mph higher than a mustang because won't. You're looking at a 10 mph difference and a very NARROW amount of time to try to pass and from there keeping the mustang behind.

@Texarmageddon Still, there is a big different between how fast a car goes trough corners, and HOW it goes trough corner. Mustang might go trough corner at about same speed as RX-8, but it will feel nowhere near as agile or fun or balanced. There a difference between speed and balance / driving characterstic. Thats why they call BMW the ultimate driving machine...not because its the faster than other, but because of HOW it drives...how balanced and responsive it feels, how nice it drives.

@derbigpr500 As far as fun goes.... Opinionated just like the titled BMW because there are far superior cars out there that are cheaper and handle better. I even vouch for the RX-8 in that case. There are numerous ways to win. You can choose a power monster or a powerless handling champ. Power monsters are usually heavy and the powerless are usually light.... unfortunately, the RX-8 fights nowhere in there.

@derbigpr500 I know, they probably haven't even driven one for them to say that. The Rx-8 has the best handling out of anything in it's price range. And remember, the Rotory engine has it's advantages such as its really smooth in everyday driving (my dad owned an rx-7), its very compact and lightweight. Just wait until the next gen rotory engine that will be in the next rx-8. By the way, isn't the mustang the only car that still has a live axle?

@MrJasian I dont know, i think the new ones have proper suspension. :P But they're still heavy, and even tho they go around corners ok, they will NEVER feel good to drive like real sports cars...like Mazda RX-8 or BMW M3....
