  • What accessories did you use to make this video? I have a D60 but not so knowledgeable on the extra accessories required for time lapse.

  • Hi mate, how do I do this?

  • colapsados . com

    Tu web de Time Lapses

  • colapsados . com

  • time lapses

  • hola

  • did you have to take every photo ?

  • @ldgliam82 It was automated: controlled by the computer that took a photo every x seconds.

  • @inofaith what program were you using?

  • @brendendas Nikon Camera Control Pro to capture. Apple Final Cut Pro to edit the footage.

  • @inofaith thanks man!! :D

  • @brendendas No problem :)

  • this is a great video.... well done..... i have a d60 and i don't know how to do this yet, but i hopefully will learn. i would love to know why you have 3 dislikes as well?????

well done and keep it up

  • this is a great video.... well done..... i have a d60 and i don't know how to do this yet, but i hopefully will learn. i would love to know why you have 3 dislikes as well?????

    well and keep it up

  • how do you put those pictures together?

    nice video!

  • @florinocti Quicktime Pro and Final Cut Pro

  • hey im new to photography how did u do this with your d60 did you physically take a shot every so often or is there a shot mode or something.

  • @srtcharles65 HI man, I used Nikon software for this.

there is more info in the older comments.

    (nikon camera control pro)

  • really nice video !

  • @yamitanomura Thnx man :)

  • Very Cool !

  • Hi! I have also downloaded the Camera Control with the latest update which supports d60 and doesn't work. Where can I set the USB in PTP mode? I am so angry... please help!

  • I honestly don't know. I did this 2 years ago already. Don't now what Nikon has been up to with their software because I don't use it anymore.

    try iStopmotion.

  • @jancsi90 It's due to Nikon leaving the USB transfer mode out of the D60, which is why it doesn't recognise the camera. There is an update CCPro 2.1.0 which is supposed to add support for the D60, but it still doesn't seem to work properly even after the upgrade. To be honest with you, you can try the Service and Support link on their website, or upgrade to a pro camera. If you google you'll see a lot of people are complaining about it.

  • @namesnotimportant2u Worked fine for me, indeed be sure to have the camera in the correct mode and install all updates/drives and latest versions of CCP2

  • I downloaded the software to use with my d60 and it wouldn't recognize the camera. Then I read the specs and it says it doesn't support the d60. How did you get it to work?

  • Camera Control Pro was updated when the d60 was released. by now its probably been updated several times.

Check if you have the latest version etc.

  • ei, whats time lapse anyway? cause im excited to buy my d60 ^^

  • Comment removed

  • time-lapse is not "just fast forwarded". it is and image taken at set intervals.

you can set intervals of 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year...

That's not a tape you are fast forwarding but you are capturing processes that happen too slow for a human to notice.

  • wow..thanks

  • Niceeee

  • did you manually press the shutter every few minutes, or is there a way to automate the process?

  • Nikon Camera Control Pro + laptop

  • how much d60 price?

  • use google... it's not that hard.

Find a photography store near where you live.

I can't tell you because I probably live far far away from you...

  • 336 euro with the 18-55 AF-S lens. with 2 years manufacturer warranty....

  • d60. how much?

  • how much what?

  • how much pictures?

  • 12fps > 1 minute

  • lovely..

  • Very Nice Job!

  • Very nice :)

And you see how a night never goes dark in a city with all that light.

  • Long shutter speeds may make it look like very bright lit, but it's actually pretty dark.

But true, there is more light than you would have in a forest or desert,

    Clouds bounce it right back

  • With the street lights, shopping mall lights etc lights. Forget star photography.

Now inside it can be quite a bit harder and you might need that flash I agree.

  • very cool

  • Hi there. Great video. I attempted a couple of time lapse videos on my channel and while I am pleased with my Nikon 60, I was dissapointed I had to use my computer all the time.

Now that I have read about gentLED Auto (thanks to you!) I will likely buy that :)

  • Hi,

I'm glad to have been of some help this way :) .

The GentLED works great, just put it in your photo bag and carry a mini-tripod (maybe a spare battery) and you'll be making time-lapse where- and whenever you want!

  • Hey...where do they talk about the gentLED on here? wat page of the comments?

  • Impressive..

  • Comment removed

  • Read older comments for your answer.

  • Comment removed

  • this musthve been a long job. how many hours? did you had your vr on? really great sight

  • A whole night, ... like 8 to maybe 12 hours or so.

No VR was used. Camera was on tripod so no vibrations to reduce ;)

  • how many picture was this

  • read older comments, you'll find the same question and answers

  • okk hahahaha

  • Really great work! You have obviously worked very hard to make this video... The music only adds a magical effect to the already beautiful work...

  • Thanks for the insight.

  • Vibration Reduction (VR) Technology

  • Question: What kind of lens did u use 18-200mm or 18mm-55 ?

  • 18-55 mm nikkor I think is VR

  • What does VR mean?

  • Yep, I used the kitlens.

    Nikkor 18-55mm VR.

It's a nice lens for on holidays. But there's more great stuff out there.

I didn't use the VR for night shots in this time-lapse though... because the camera was already on a very solid tripod. VR only eats battery and can help fignt blurry photos a tiny bit for indoor handheld shooting or at dawn or night etc. but 80% of the time I don't use it.

  • Okay so you changed the lens when it got dark? what did u use for the dark ?

    Just curious.

  • No I mean I didn't use the VR function in this movie.

The camera was on a tripod so VR is out of the question.

(actually VR consumes a lot power an can make tripod photos differ from eachother because VR loosens a small lens inside, if that shifts because of vibrations in the tripod... photos will be slightly offset. This is only relevant in stop-motion and time-lapse when taking multiple images that have to be the same framing)

  • wow this looks cool.

    which should i get d40 or d60?

  • D60 :P

  • Comment removed

  • 18-55 mm nikkor I think is VR

  • D40 is the same except for the amount of MegaPixels you get.

If you don't have to print A1 size posters of your posters and just shoot beautifull pictures wherever you go and post them onto flickr etc. i'd go for the D40 or D40x

  • heh allways enjoy it :)

  • Did you use the Stop Motion videos the D60 have and put them together?, or "just" took several pics and edited them in video?

Very good btw, a whole day doing this =)

  • I used Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 to automatically take pictures at set time intervals (here I took a picture about every minute)

Those pictures go directly to your computers harddrive instead of the memory card.

Afterwards I string the pictures together using Quicktime Pro

The built-in stop-motion feature is a fun gimmick to preview stuff if you have no computer around, but if you're already taking stop-motion or time-lapse seriously you'll be using a computer. (better control and quality)

  • Oh that's great, I was just wandering if the stop motion feature of the D60 was up to this quality, anyway thanks for the info =)

  • No it's not. Computers handle video encoding better and render it properly.

The photocamera is designed to take photos, the stringing together of photos and compressing them and changing the resolution is not it's specialty.

  • Very nice, quick question, around how many photos were used in this?

  • Read through the comments, I've answered that question about 3 times.

    :)

  • i have one of those cameras that's a great job you've done there mate.

  • this is great. good job man :)

  • this must have taken u very long. great job!

  • wow nice job!

  • breathtaking

  • I think the music you chose was icing on the cake. haha, Loved it, you must have been at it all day.

  • thanks, I was at it all night and day actually ;)

The music was very hard to choose, had to find the right thing. This song was just perfect for it especially with the timing of the lights.

  • beautiful...makes me wanna get myself one :)

  • Well thank you,

remember that it's not the tools that make the art but ther artist ;)

  • yea :) you can have the d90 or higher than that but may not capture the best photos..will come back for some tips when i get my d60 :)

  • This is amazong bro.

  • Thanx man. :)

  • that is tight. i m gonna buy this camera as soon as i can. i got some q tho. i heard there are us and chinese versions of cameras. how can i make sure i get the one i want and not the chinese? im lookin on ebay cause they have good package deals. so i cant really ask anyone cause they never respond. any advise?

  • Wow, this is awesome. I actually bought this camera yesterday and i can't wiat to use it.

  • Cool, read the comments heren and you'll know how to time-lapse. good luck!

  • Holy hell! How many pictures total did you take?

  • how was it done? do you have to take it manually at 30 seconds interval ? or it does automatically?

  • No i connected it via USB to my computer running Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 trial.

that controls the camera, you can take pictures from a distance, or time them as a time lapse with all the settings of the cam set on the computer.. and the interval being controlled.

    So litterally camera control.

After the trial ended I tried iStopMotion... that worked ok but now i have a GentLed Auto... little device that is a timed remote for your cam... so no computers needed.

  • Very nice work. I appreciate the settings at the end of the movie

  • Thank you.

Yeah I'd like to help people do the same or even better. So go for it.

  • thats the way! thanks.

  • Yeah :)

  • I must commend you on your effort. I got my D60 after months of saving up(student) and wish to try this. I guess one could also use the Nikon camera control pro software for this?

I was just wondering if 'each' of those shots were 30 seconds each?

    Also, are you flickr?

  • That's exactly what I did... saved up [as a student] and used CCP.

    Look for "Inofaith" on flickr.

But since flickr only lets u upload 200 pics i dont use it anymore.. I'm posting all future photos on facebook.

    [Tobias Heemskerk]

  • So is that 513 photos with a 30 sec exposure for each of those?

And what is the real time duration that this video covers?

  • I can't acces my original files anymore but I can say it took me roughly a whole night.

Starting at something like 10 or 11pm continuing till 7am.. had to change batteries every 2 to 3 hours and at 1 point I slept through my timer and the time-lapse ended.

  • ...so the sequence is in reverse order then.. interesting.

  • No.... I don't see how you could come to think that.

I shot photos... and put them together as image sequence and made a movie file... everything stays chronological.

  • Ok.

it's just that you mentioned in your previous comment that..."Starting at something like 10 or 11pm continuing till 7am"

and one can see that the Sun appears in the 1st half of the video while the lights from the city as well as the houses come up in the 2nd half. So that gives the impression that the pictures were taken in a duration around sunset.

  • well it could be 7pm till 5am or something.. its over a year ago :P

But yeah sunset, and night follows.

  • Great work

  • Thank you

  • im going to buy this camera.. do you reccomend it? and also.. did you just set the camera to take a picture like every 10 seconds or somthing.. can you do this with the camera?

  • damm how long did that take you?! haha im planning on doing one today

  • Loong... you need a good alarm clock to wake yourself every 3 or 4 hours or so if you're working with 2 batteries. (Nikon's wall adapter is very expensive)

  • Very cool ;-) , you are going to kill your shutter though :/

  • Well, that what all time lapse-photographers face.

If I had enough money for a RED camera that wouldn't be such an issue ;P

  • how is he going to kill the shuter lol? he only took like 300 pics and it was all under 1 hour aprt from each one lol

  • Wow, that was really cool inofaith. I also own the Nikon D60 and love that camera. Roughly how many pictures did you have to capture for this video? How many 100's? Thanks for sharing.

  • Well, its rendered at 12f/ps. You do the math... :)

  • 720 photos :)

  • Actually I counted 513 photos in the folder it's made from.

They are at SMALL resolution (is still a few pixels larger than Full HD resolution) so you can store more on your computer, or if you do timelapse with only triggering: you can store more on ur SD card.

Maybe I can upload a 720p HD mov version via Azureus/Vuze

  • very good!!! i have a nikon D60 too.. how to make it ??? thanks !!!!

  • Fantastic! I've just bought the D60 myself, and I'll be trying out the time-laspe funtion as soon as possible

  • really cool video :)

i specially like when the sun sets,

  • Art with passion! Is there any program for sony a200 to do time lapse shooting? Because as far as i know camera control pro is for nikon cameras.

  • Art . Just Art :D Love It !

  • Well, it's all around us. And up to us to bring it forward. ;)

  • Nice vid. Was this fully automated? Can it be longer?

Can you choose how often a picture is taken?

  • Yes this was fully automated.

You need Camera Control Pro though. And if you want to go on for 24 hours you should buy the power adapter (instead of using the battery for 2.5 or 3 hours).

In Camera Control Pro you can adjust EVERY setting of how the camera takes a picture. And you can adjust how often in HH:MM:SS (hours, minutes, seconds).

So If you know what you should do with time-lapse, this works out great.

NOTE: The software IS NOT FREE, and the power adaptor is kindo expensive.

  • is camera control pro ONLY software? and where did you buy the power adaptor at? how much do you think it is?

  • I use 2 batteries, so I had to wake up inbetween 1 depleating while the other was charged. The power adapter is expensive (i think they should add a wire to your charger just like with camcorders).

Camera Control Pro is ONLY software yes. It let's you control everything from within your computer. While you can see the lightmetering.

So shutter, aperture, ISO, electronic under/over exposure. And the picture control as wel: contrast, saturation, sharpness, RGB profile, color temprature offset.

  • Excellent vid you have put together here. What's the music you used?

  • The song is called "What Size Shoe?" by "Cliff Martinez"

He also made the soundtracks for Solaris (2003) and Wicker Park (2004). It nice smooth music, but some songs can be very alike. There is almost no percussion in it.

  • Thanks for getting back to me about the track. It's a stunning piece of music.

  • This is awesome! Does NikonCameraControlPro 2.1 come bundled when you buy a Nikon D60?

  • Hey, unfortunately Nikon doesn't provide CameraControlPro 2.1 for free. I don't think it comes with any Nikon camera.

My trial expired and I haven't found any free alternative to time-lapse with my camera.

Maybe there is an old free version of "Nikon Camera Control" (not PRO) you can update version per version so it can support the D60. I haven't found a mac version. It's such a simple program, Nikon would do wise providing it for free. good luck

  • Thank you very much for the information! However, I've decided to get a Canon 400D instead of a Nikon D60 & it comes with a bundled camera control software that also allows timelapse shooting.

  • Okay, yeah I think it;s a shame that for software controlling reasons someone would get another camera. Decided by the corporations. No offence to you, but to nikon and canon.

I personally would recommend nikon over canon because of the lens quality for example. But good you chose to go with certainty to have time-lapse capability

  • Actually, I had a hard time deciding between the Canon 400D & the Nikon D60 because in our place they were priced more or less the same. But ultimately, I decided to get a Canon because I got a IS lens with the kit. So since the IS lens had neutralized Nikon's VR lens that comes with the kit, I chose Canon 400D because of its 9 AF points compared to the D60's only 3 & it has automatic exposure bracketing w/c I needed to easily make exposures for HDR conversions later.

  • If you're shopping for a new cell phone, don't forget that the Nokia N95 also can be programmed to take pictures in intervals of 1,5,10,15 and 20 minutes in a time that's only limited by the battery - and it mixes them together in the phone as well.

  • Cool man, yeah it preforms well in low light.

when you figure out what white balance and work with low ISO's you can get amazing pictures. Keep on shooting!

  • Is this time lapse feature built-in or need additional accessory? Is there any difference with the stop-animation of D60? What's the maximum resolution it can record during time lapse? This vid look cool! Love Nikon SLR!!!

  • To begin, the camera has no time-lapse function, meaning: it is not able to take pictures with set intervals. (I don't know any DSLR that can). You'll need a computer with NikonCameraControlPro 2.1 for the D60. Or a wired remotecontrol for cameras like D80 and higher.

Second of all. If you want control and quality I recommend you put together the pictures tha camera took yourself to make the video

  • i see, thanks for ur answer!

  • Fun fact:

the lowest resolution of the photos is still larger than Full HD. Now this is nothing new in meanings of printing and graphics. But when it comes to stop-motion (not the built in function) and time-lapse video projects. You can render them in1936x1296, 2896x1944 or even 3872x2592! Allthough this isn't yet nessesairy sice we only got blue-ray as todays highest resolution digital video medium.

  • The Nikon D300 can take pictures at regular intervals by itself. Look to my videos, I've made two timelapses with this function (even if they aren't great)

  • Yes, thats true. But te D300 costs twice as much as one D60. that's way over my budget for now, being a student and all.

(ofcoarse ill buy a more advanced model in the future)

But the built-in interval function is great, especially for outdoors etc.

  • how long was this shot over?

  • There where 2 shots due to working with 1 battery and I had to recharge inbetween.

One of 2:48 and one of 2:03, combined:

4 hours and 51 minutes of time-lapse material.

  • I have a nikon d60 on layby...can't wait!
