Great work man, but I started to feel dizzy by the end of the video because the camera never stopped gliding around. At least it was smooth movement. Also, it annoyed me that you would only show half of the model at a time (upper body then lower body - except for the roller-derby girl) I like seeing the whole model in frame at least once so i understand it's entire silhouette. Once again, great work.
@vessodesign Each one of the hexagons are flat. Since the entire eye appears to be rounded in most directions they catch light from a specific angle. it makes the reflection pop when rotated. The shader is just a highly reflective red glass shader.
I have just downloaded a free student vesion of maya. (I think I can do the same for 3ds max, so before I get any deeper, could anybody explain the major differences in the two pieces of software?
Btw very inspirational work... I truley hope to be as good as this.
@TheUberCayk Maya tends to be more intimidating for some reason. I think it's mostly the interface that people freak out about. Max uses a modifier stack that can be very powerful if you know how to use it. I like to do a lot of my non organic environments in max. Maya is really good for animation and has an ok modeler. They're both really good programs to learn on.
wow your amazing! i hope to get as good as you. i'm only doing 2d modeling right now =/ i haven't found where to buy 3D modeling things for my computer.
@FreeRunful LordFhalkyn is right. Blender is free. I recommend grabbing that and learning modeling from that if you don't have the budget to buy any 3D package. I use modo from luxology at home. A quick google search will pull it up. It's less expensive than most 3D software. I use 3DSMax at work. It's more expensive but it's industry standard in the game industry.
@d1v4dPwnz Nope. Maya is used in the game industry though. It really depends on the pipeline of the company and what suits their needs. Any project I've ever been on has used 3DSMax as their primary app. It may be half and half at this point but 3DSMax has been top dog in the game industry since the first 3D games.
@d1v4dPwnz Learning one will allow you to pick up the other quite fast. I learned on Maya first and had to pick up 3DSMax once I got in the industry. I would recommend getting as good with Max as possible if you're interested in getting in the gaming industry but either will do fine.
@MichaelOsterwalder3D Yes. That's the skinny. The surrounding portions are a chrome material and the interior is just a highly reflective glass like material.
@MichaelOsterwalder3D I created a single hexagon duplicated to form a row. Duplicated that row, offset it to form the base pattern. Continued Duplicating the rows to form a shape. I then used a deformer to wrap the shape around the eye socket. Bevel, extrude, bevel, profit, ?!??!
@alexander256 Wings3D is good to start from but it doesn't do nearly enough things. I like the methodology of wings3D from a fundamental stand point but a winged polygon just doesn't cut it for industry work. However, it will get the job done for some things and that's kind of my philosophy, "whatever works."
@rrafw Yes, the king earthworm hippo character had a normal map on it. As to your second question I am not quite sure what you are asking. I constructed the low poly to have proper form to ensure a proper bake from the high poly to the low. In this way it captured the chest details. I hope this answers your question.
Hey very nice demoreel I saw it in the HD its wonderful quality , both the stuff and the video Quality. I recently made my demoreel and uploaded in Youtube but am not getting the HD thing can you tell me why ???? I rendered in 1440 X 1080 res is it ok ??
I hate to ask this here but it would be good if you can say a few words anyways my demo link is watch?v=X-0Izy3LOOE
@utapau235 I went to the art center design college for my education but a lot of this is just years of practice. It doesn't hurt to hang out on forums like polycount, cghub and gameartisans.
@akadotseven Hello, quick question, i have Zbrush 3.5. And currently having problems smoothing in the higher sub-divisions. Any way possible you can help me, will be much appreciated.

@NeroDeamon Luxology Modo. I prefer it as my modeler of choice.

@akadotseven so its same as maya and max?
NeroDeamon 1 year ago
@NeroDeamon It's similar. It's not quite as full featured as maya or max. It currently does not have character animation.
