  • Sweet video! Greatly appreciated! The quality was great the information was great! I've been obsessing over the sr22...I'm gonna have to buy one haha. Thanks again!

  • 5.15 oww that hurt he felt that one

  • The stinger seemed to be the winner, and had the highest velocity. As a close quarters weapon reliability would be my main concern, with ammo and the weapon. The sr22 and stinger ammo works. Thanks 4 the video.

  • Let me get this straight. There's a case length difference between the CCI stingers and the CCI MiniMags? If that's the case, (pun intended) they're depending on pressure retention. In short barrel guns, if you want more velocity, you need more pressure since the pressure curve is near- hyperbolic.

  • @mikeb1444

I can do a video on this if you'd like.

  • Great review so I bought one, I like the small grip best, with large one I was getting some hammer bit. Also my SR22 hates Blazer ammo. Four boxes shot and about 20 rounds went wild and key-holed. I then shot a 525 box of Federal bulk with no problems. I guess it's stick with what works

  • It looks like the web of your hand is very close to the hammer. Any biting?

  • where did you buy your target or did you make it?

  • you can always just do the Will Hayden motto, pull the trigger till you hear a click

  • I like this gun, but more capability charger like 9mm. Thanks for the test.

  • AT 3:10 Blackops Mode lol

  • love your VIDS

  • I think that the ammunition manufacturers should put 2 velocity readings on thier boxes. One with rifle velocity, one with pistol velocity. That would help a lot for some of us that shoot both .22 pistol and rifle.

  • I'm liking the vids on the new Ruger, but did you know that they recommend not to use hypervelocity ammo? I found this in their FAQ's section on their site and just thought that you should know.

  • thanks for great vid ! i smiled when i saw you firing the sr22 (i just got one) using cci stringers. it appears i made two good buys. i'm a newbie.

  • Very impressive chart you made with the velocities. It was very interesting to see the velocities you were getting from the pistol. Great video and please keep up the awesome work you are doing!

  • keep it up, i loved the .22 and the foster slug ballistic test videos

  • You do great videos. Really in-depth and thorough

  • do some 45 acp Grizzly Xtreme.....

  • Lighter bullets do tend to loose more velocity in shorter barrels. Heavier bullets are longer and stay in the barrel longer resulting in less loss of velocity. Great shooting.

You are are really making me want to get one of these guns. :)

  • Super reviews. thank you

  • I would rather not be shot with anything but bigger is better all else being equal. I have no problem what soever carrying a .22 for self defense. They are so accurate and easy to hit with and practice is cheap.

  • @tnoutdoors9 I was wondering if you could do some .357 magnum tests with the SIM-TEST media, specifically either the Speer Gold Dot or the Federal Nyclad. If not, it's no problem. BTW i love all of your videos, I always learn something new whenever you post a new video. Keep up the good work. :-)

  • how much does that gun run me??

  • When are they gona give the public the means to hand load the famous .22lr? I know its cheap but I want to make some fun little hitters of my own

  • I like blazer ammo

  • Another great video!

  • I love when people say a 22 isn't good for ccw, I personally have seen people run from angry bees...22 trumps that by a mile...But people will argue it anyways, yet I've never found one that will let someone empty a 22 into them...Go figure

  • @salembadass I've never understood it either. I think some people carry to compensate for shortcomings elsewhere, instead of for actual personal defense reasons...and then find themselves leaving their ccw at home 9 out of 10 times 'cause they feel uncomfortable with a hand-cannon in their pants...making the whole thing pointless. Any gun is better than no gun, and a .22 you have with you 90% of the time is better than a .45 you only have with you 10% of the time.

  • @deutscherjoel

There are many .380's, .38 Specials and 9mm's that are no larger than this Ruger and similar .22's. But they all provide a significant increase in stopping power/terminal ballistics/OOMPH! There is no good reason to carry a .22LR for defensive purposes unless it's all you own.

  • @salembadass Just because I haven't found anyone that'll let me empty my BB gun into them, doesn't mean it's good for CC.

  • 3:16 looks like call of duty

  • I thought this a Walther 22 at first. Is this a reliable gun?

  • Do ammunition manufacturers use Chronographs to test the velocity?

I would assume they use a different method to determine the velocity.

Kind of like how car manufacturers test the horsepower of their vehicles at the crank and not the wheel (dyno).

  • Just bought an SR22 thanks to you and HIckcock45's videos-LOVE IT!!

    THANKS

  • It was fun cyber-shooting with you and your reliable Ruger. Thing sounds like a rifle in the echo with that hot ammo.

  • Love your videos as always TN. sweet little shooter. im still looking to pick up a 22 pistol, just can't make my mind up

  • Next to "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" the argument "Is rimfire and acceptable CCW caliber?" is easily number two on the list of never ending, non-conclusive arguments. But when I see you knocking out ten accurate chest shots in under five seconds at twenty yards I can't help but think this little gun can stop an assailant. I sure wouldn't charge you if you had that thing pointed at me!

  • I'd love to see the comparison between a rifle barrel and a pistol barrel on a chronograph. Also, you may hate me for this, but it'd seem you were pulling some of the trigger pulls. Either that or you have a secret grudge against that tree on the left.

  • The higher power CCI loads use slower powder, really optimized for longer barrels. The Stinger's like an exceptionally long barrel for a .22, around 20 inches in my experience.

  • You're an excellent shot. We see that every time you post :) But rimfire cartridge design is an imperfect science...and that's putting it charitably. These .22 pistols with reciprocating slides toss fliers. As far as I can tell, it's a function of inconsistent lockup and poor stabilization. I would bet that those Stingers are printing better because of their recoil signature/pressure curve and resultant slide velocity.

  • i might get me one of those,,, very cool

  • More great testing, thanks.

  • im not too surprised at the loss of velocity but i never would have thought that it would drop off so much. almost 500 fps less than rifle velocity in the same load. that is almost scary. not sure if it would pain me or interest me to see how the velocity and bullet-performance of a full-sized rifle round would behave if fired from a pistol-length barrel (no more than 9" long)

  • Well done... Makes me think that a price/ performance ratio may be in your future!

  • Good stuff. I hope you are enjoying this firearm.

  • Great video! Surprising the amount of drop and it shows there is no need to buy the expensive ammo because you are not going to get a huge increase in velocity.

  • will you do ballistics with the pistol and compare them with the 10/22 ballistics?

  • Thank you for the great vids as always! Keep them coming!

  • Do you think a 22lr hp would open up in a pistol like that.

  • @Moparking950

    We will find out.

  • Do you think a 22lr hp would open in a pistol like that.

  • @thoutdors9 maybe the rounds were ment to be shot out of a rifle try shooting them out of your 10/22

  • That sucks! Even the 32 grain Stingers were barely supersonic, and not much faster than the heavier rounds..

  • i personally prefer the stinger to other .22 rounds because their much more accurate aswell as less duds in the pack. however their not cheap so when it comes to mass target practice i use either cheap remington or winchester loads. also such a light bullet is highly affected by wind.

  • Thanks for the fps-test; interesting how much energy get's lost using a pistol than a rifle!

  • @moaski

I have no idea, other than what I can read on the interwebs; no firsthand experience with the P22. I would suggest watching several SR22 videos and same with the P22. There may already be something posted showing both in the same video. The gun forums are good sources as well.

  • I received my SR22 last week. When out shooting yesterday. Shot about 300+ rounds of Federal and Winchester Red Box. I found my pistol performing excellently. I also have a Ruger Mk II which was nice to compare with. The ONLY problem I had was I had a dozen or so "failure to loads". That is there was nothing in the chamber while there were bullets in the mag. Not sure what the problem is- if its the mag spring, etc? I've made holsters for it too.

    thanks, jacksonleatherwork d o t c o m

  • great vid. a new video with the results of the ruger 10/22 would be interesting

  • CCI Minimags are high velocity rounds, not hyper velocity.

  • @huntwithairguns

I believe you could be correct. There is a threshold of velocity that defines the two.

  • I think you did great on the 50 yd

  • You should do a chrono test with a rifle with the same ammo to show the true comparrison.....

  • Re-chrono them out of the 10/22 for comparison?

  • @12799MaDeuce

Yeah, I can do that. Just to be clear, I VERY WELL KNOW those advertised velocities were from a rifle. Some people are commenting to the effect that I was not aware of that fact. This was the first time I had ever chronographed .22's from a pistol. I had a geniune interest in seeing firsthand the degree of velocity loss.

  • @tnoutdoors9 Ya I realize there would be a difference b/t advertised (rifle) velocities and actual pistol velocities. Would be interesting though to use the 10/22 to see if CCI's ratings are accurate for rifles.

  • man you are my favorite redneck on youtube

  • @5050killerboy5050

    Redneck? Hardly.

  • @pickchicken

I don't know, right now I'm wearing bib overalls without a shirt, and no underwear. Checking vid comments, wireless, from a McDonalds in the front of a WalMart at a remote location in Tennessee.

  • @tnoutdoors9

    LOL

  • You're gonna let us find out for ourselves what ammo had mag issues? awwww

Good info on this, but you should rat out ammo that behaves badly.

  • could the chronograph need calibration? you had pretty consistent results.

  • @Uncrust

There really isn't any calibration to it. I was shooting from the same spot on all 30 shots. Had I moved closer on some of the shots, muzzle blast could have impacted the readings. It was overcast but I still used the sky screens.

  • @Uncrust Hes using a pistol, those are all calibrated for rifle rounds. Any hi vel .22 will crono that, because the maximum acceleration doesn't decrease for a few more inches, and in a pistol the barrel is not long enough. In a rifle, I would expect these rounds to perform at or above their rating, CCI is a good company.

  • @jbat3535 Most of the time CCI tests with long 22, 24, or 26 in. berrals. Like you said most 22 rounds stop speeding up after 16 or 18 in. The slower burning powders in the new Hyper vel. ammo's can gain speed at 26 to 28 in. I buy bricks of velocitors. You get a little more velocity than the mini-mag but keeps the 40 gr. bullet. I like big bullets and when i can get the speed too I'll take it.

    TSFG

  • The higher the velocity the slower burning the powder usually is & needs a longer barrel. They need to tailor quick burning pistol loads in .22 though there's a point accuracy is just going to be destroyed. I'd love to be able to load the rounds & test them myself, you'd think manufacturers would do a tiny bit of research into what load is optimal for pistols & all popular lengths, like standard loads only use bout 16" for the best ballistic return.

  • You really need to try some Agulia supermaximum hypervelocity .22lr. Now that is a test.

  • can't wait to get my hands on one of those! great vid

  • By the way, with a new pistol, iron sights, three different loads, wind, you should Never apologize for your shooting. You and Greg are scary shooters !!!!! You rock!!!!!

  • Why is there a pause, or blip, after each shot? Are you editing for time?

  • @BobbyGriz1

No editing between shots. What little conconcussion is coming from the .22, shooting right next to the camera, was picked up by the camera. Having a wall behind me and deck above me could have been a contributor.

  • Even with those velocity loses thru a pistol, those are still humming along pretty dang well, dont think any of those furry four leggers or stupid two leggers want to get in the way of that! LOL Great video as always, keep them coming!!

  • Love waking up on a cold Monday morning and finding a tnoutdoors9 update in my subscriptions.

  • Isn't the advertised velocity measured at the muzzle from the manufacturer? Cool pistol :) 50 yards with a pistol is pretty good. Nice video!

  • the shots kept missing cause u were using a pistol instead of the rifle but you alreddy knew that lol

  • Great test,Ive Been shooingt my 4 inch ruger standard for years at like 50 yards at pins and clays never chrono mine ,Thanks try some Aquila Interceptors a bit ditry but Wow stuff is really hot .Any how love you vids have all my toys but stuck with no land to shoot , Till i Escapce Communist New Jersey,Thankx ! • Sticking with the "Hammer of Thor" for the time being. It's the only round that feeds reliably in my JA-22. I tried the winchester white box which on paper look to be the same round, however I get a few duds and I get a FTE half the time with them. Same goes for Remington Thunderbolts and Federals.

  • i like how you take the time to make that chart if you did

  • Good Video, I had try CCI Mini Mag HP, Federal 510 and CCI Standard, The CCI Standard is the best for Accrucy, try it next time, you will like it :) , Need a ballistic gel testing.

  • Pretty cool.

  • How does this pistol compare to a Walther P22?

Last week, I shot a Browning Buckmark and the Walther. Both pistols are very nice; however, I could do no wrong shooting the P22.

  • all the velocitys on the box's are for rifles with a 24" inch barrel all 3 of these have a slower burning powder to make it burn for longer and use more of the barrel to gain velocity

normal .22 starts losing velocity at about 16" thats why if you put a 30"+ barrel on a .22 its silent without a silencer these long barreled guns have been called long toms

  • Best gun channel

  • i pretty much use only mini mags in all my .22s now. It almost never fails and it is worth paying a little more to wield the hammer of Thor!

  • was advertised velocity stated for a riffle or pistol? on them cartridges i think they mean riffles. anyway great video. ballistic gel and blue jeans test would be nice to see. and any mouse guns like 25 and 32 would be neat for your media tests

  • @1942nuclear

Advertised is for a rifle. I expected the drop but wanted to present some factual stats for reference.

  • @tnoutdoors9 i like how you do large calibers and .22 cal videos. most people are too cool or too cocky for the .22 haha

  • Excellent review and analysis.

  • It would be interesting to see the velicity out of a rifle barrel, you are probobly burning most of the powder outside of the barrel in a pistol.

  • @soulis1000 He did at least one 0.22 CCI test with the 10/22, but i don't remember if he mentioned the fps.

  • Ballistic media .22 time.

  • Nice test TN. actually quite intresting these .22 tests.

  • Nice vid as always....Bigfoot could do better though. CCI's always seem to run excellent in everything I have.

  • Thanks for the review...

  • My Brother has a Walther P22, and it will not run on anything but CCI... Good Stuff

  • @Billthrasher talked to a guy who figured out the problem with that and the sig sauer mosquito there should be a lighter spring that came with teh pistol that alows you to run other ammo

  • I shot my SR22 for the first time today I shot federal lightning, remington bulk pack copper HP. CCI mini mag plated round nose. Federal plated HP, and cci stingers. I only had one failure to feed out of 500 rounds and that was 1 out of the 50 rounds of cci stinger I shot. For a 22 the reliability is amazing. I didn't have to polish the feed ramp either they got this one right from the factory.

  • @Dietzeeeee

CCI stingers are a bit different in profile from any other 22LR out there.

There's quite a few barrels they're not supposed to find their way into.

  • @skyhop I noticed that. I have recently really taken an interest in 22LR. I have been mostly a center-fire rifle and handgun guy before that but I can shoot so much more for so much less $ I also just got a ruger 10-22 for $100 I swapped out the extractor claw for a "sharp" after market one changed the bolt stop and get an extended mag release that thing runs like a charm.

  • @Dietzeeeee

My browning buckmark has ran everything, and has been 100% straight out of the box. The only issues I ever had was some of the exceptionally bad federal bulk packs from walmart. Since those have largely been replaced with winchester bulk packs, it's ran ad reliable as my glocks, sigs, and 1911s. Quite an amazingly reliable gun, it still shocks me at the range.

  • A longer barrel (ex. Ruger 10/22) would result in closer to advertised FPS?

  • Wow, very informative. I knew the velocities would be lower, but I was surprised at the fact there was only about a 60fps spread between the three. I have a friend that bought one of these. It will feed every brand and type of .22lr he has tried were as my Walther is picky, and only likes the higher grades of ammo. Great video friend.

  • this could make for an interesting test in ballistic gel. there have been people that talk about .22lr for self defense (anything is better than nothing) and several people have different choices for ammo. stinger, velocitor, mini-mag, segmented hollow point, sniper subsonic 60gr, to name a few at least. accuracy testing at 10 yards would be easy enough, it would be interesting to compare the difference between rifle and pistol wound channels too

  • Thanks for the vid, i'v been looking into a .22 handgun, now I think ill get a ruger sr22.

  • Nice video... Great info I am seriously thinking of getting one of these.... BTW what camera are you using....

  • We need some ballistic gel testing.

  • Need standard deviation.

  • That's what I thought..I see you shooting the stingers, I want some! Thank you..

  • @tnoutdoors9 hey do a favor I would like to see thoes piny mountain tracers shoot though that gun... it would be easy to hit that target at 50yards with thoes and besides I love tracer rounds..

  • @gunmanbryan243

I plan on doing that. 50 yds might be a stretch, they drop like a rock at 50-75 yards from the 10/22.

  • Great test.......CCI sold u a few blanks in there im thinking ;-D

  • Bo knows football. Ruger knows .22s. Good vid with the chrono stats. I would suspect hotter factory loads would experience greater loss of Vo because the charge is designed to burn longer. It's wasting a larger, non-linear percentage of the burn after the projectile has uncorked.

Regarding the SR22, I think it's ugly as sin, but it looks like a ton of fun to shoot and if given one, I certainly wouldn't give it back! I'm assuming the controls are similar if not the same as an SR9.

  • How much property do you own?

  • Excellent test!

  • Great vid man.

  • Nice... details...

  • Yeah the guy at wal-mart said the stingers are not for pistols. Nice shooting..

  • @sixgunnernick

I'm not sure I'd trust anything "the guy at walmart" says when it comes to guns.

Just food for thought. He works at walmart, not at an actual gun store.

  • Good job! The numbers were pretty interesting.

  • Not advocating the use of a .22 lr as a defensive weapon, but it is my number one choice for a survival weapon. I like your video and presentation style and would very much like to see you use CCI's MiniMag, Velocitor, Stinger, and Federal Bulk CPHP in your ballistic sim test fired from this pistol. I have enjoyed your 22 cal. Sim test videos before, but would like to see their performance from a pistol at say 7-10 yards. Many people are talking about carrying this type of weapon as a back up o

  • Hmm... about a 1000 fps regardless of ammo type, CCI must use the same powders for all 3, would explain what appears to be a similar burn rate amongst all 3. Would be interesting to see other hyper velocity ammo's tested.

  • at those kind of speed is that loss really all that much?

  • I think that ammo was tested on a rifle not a handgun.

  • Nice vid :) Did you leave the camera's image stabilization on when tripod mounted? Looks like the concussion from the gun fire made the IS element dance around.

  • It's so refreshing to hear someone present a nice report like this one. I'm sick of the guys who use the "F" word in every sentence and try to be cool. Thanks for a great job and I'll be watching for more from you if you intend to put out additional videos. With that said, this SR22 seems a fine and reliable plinking carry gun for the woods. For serious accuracy and velocity, I'll stick with my Ruger MarkI with 6 7/8" tapered barrel. It shoots like a rifle. :o)

  • Thanks

  • any chance off a 22 mag gel test? that new kel tec pistol holds 30 rounds and looks like a fun carry gun.

  • Whoa, you got some nice muzzle flash with those Stingers! I'm not the biggest fan of Sturm, Ruger... but this seems like a quality firearm. I may have to make this my next purchase (you can never have too many .22s). Your videos are very professional and informative. Nice work!

  • They are made more for rifles.

  • Could you do a test of the segmented hollow point of CCI?

  • @isamtator He's already done so.

  • @thesuperfan99 I meant with this pistol.

  • 50 yd. shooting.... that was great shooting. Nice Ruger... I kinda fancy it....maybe by the end of the yr. I'll get me one... if the world is still here..LOL Good Video

  • Hi, what gun do you recommend for 360 no scoping?

    Thanks.

    -G

  • @ashlockk Ha ha. Very damn funny.

  • @t3hUBER Thanks (:

  • you know ive shot many handguns and own a GSG .22LR 1911, pistol shooting is pretty hard at that range.

  • You sold me on the gun

  • Great Video

  • Nice video like always God bless

  • out of the 3 what is the best for squirrels

  • @1010trent All of these are hollowpoint not the best for tiny game. A plain old round nose lead or solid is plenty for a little squirrel and does not tear it up quite as much. Heck a 22cap or short will take a squirrel easy.

  • @aaadream ok but what is better high or low grain wouldn't low grain be best

  • @1010trent yeah if u can get it but 32,36,38,40gr bullets are so close its hard to tell a big difference after the fact. Try for headshots and it wont matter. Softnose tend to stay together better and hollowpoints can frag in the meat which is not good.Good luck.

  • @aaadream alright thanks man

  • right when im about to go to bed, you post a video forcing me to watch

  • could we have a 10/22 ammo comparison useing gel? and can i use stingers in my 10/22? safely it will fire just wondering
