  • What is that kind of music called?

  • They are truly something to behold in person. Very nice video and I completely agree with you that they will always be a beauty to behold.

As well they will serve as a reminder to what extents religion can go if given freedom to do so and serve as a memorial to all things done in the name of, "God" during their time period.

  • Excellent review of the french gothic cathedrals. Music is a bit loud, but all-in-all a great video.

  • Thanks for this video, i am studying gothic art in a Humanities class and wanted to learn more tha what my text held...this is perfect.

  • great video :)

what music is playing? it's wonderful!

  • you know if you really understand and read bible... . idols are bad...and the sign of devil..the eye the triangle....

  • So I'm assuming all of these churches that were mentioned are high Gothic right? they cant be earlier Gothic or transitional.

  • Wonderful indeed. So little did I know. Thank you so much for this video. Happy New Year

  • Very good explanations.

But I recall that the most important question is: "Are women educated persons?" (that 's a joke evidently)

  • Thank you, outstanding

  • Thank you for the helpful information.

  • Great vid & lecture; in another life, you'd have made an excellent professor.

If anyone wants more detail, these books are among the best I've found; they're avail cheap (used) on Amazon & the usual suspects:

The Gothic image: Religious art in France of the 13th c (Emile Male)

Cathedral: The Story of Its Construction (David Macaulay)

1st one supports & details the idea of cathedral art as "encyclopedia" 4 the medieval masses.

    2nd is ostensibly 4 kids, it's fascinating 4 interested adults 2.

  • Thank you very much too!

  • excellent video and information

  • Don't know if its "nice"or lovely, didn't threy burn people outside these places?

  • thnx a lot it helps lot

  • I wish I could live during that time, seemed interesting!

  • Interesting to see that the world does not change much within hundreds of years; men spoke of tales of glories through the depiction of their greatest fight and most honourable victories - those very battles shown in sculptures at the front and sides of greek and roman temples.

From the Egyptian king willing to end their path with a stairway to the Gods; the Babylonians with their man-made hills; the Cathedral to get higher, nearer heaven... a fascination for a world not known to a man's eye.

  • Encyclopedic- what a neat word for cathedrals

  • Thanks for the tour very good video!

  • Great Video:)

  • Wow, this was fantastic! Thanks so much.

  • Fantastic explanation! Concise, thorough, and inspiring. I love your analysis of how gothic cathedrals represent the order and hierarchy of the sacred worldview. Thank you for uploading this!
