Hope it's a good busy! No snow yet, there was some over the border in Cheese land, but nothing of any consequence here yet. Maybe some snow on Thursday, but light at best.
I simply can't understand how the econmy can be failing before everyone's eyes and financial news such as bloomberg can post articles with headlines like "Dollar Near 16-Month Low Amid Signs Global Economy Recovering". They can't possibly be counting the U.S. in they're assessment. nearly 20% actual national unemployment and they call it a recovery?
I was told the same by a coworker until I showed them that the best performing stock market of all time was Zimbabwe's, and then showed them the billion dollar bills they had to exchange for basic necessities. But aside from ignorance, it seems that peoples fear of reality is keeping them in the dark. "Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise."
I would suggest that people do not know what reality looks like. It's different for most based on their situation. We all share some common bonds though, and that is the reality we are all dealing with.
I agree that the stock market has plenty of liquidity in it but this false strength is causing inflation. Stocks up = dollar down = gold up = perfect inflation storm.
No one is decorating their houses in my area with Christmas decor. That's one thing we keep noting -- no Christmas decor ANYWHERE. Anyone else notice this?
I just got back from Edina Minnesota. Almost every street was decorated like a post card. The gas was only 2.55 a gallon too.
But...When I got home to California, there was not one street decorated and the stores seem overstocked with toys and inventory. The states with the biggest budget problems are not celebrating Christmas as usual.
Our economy is shot. Discretionary spending is a sign of a strong economy. We have lost our strength. New climate taxes will make things worse if passed.
Here in Chicago, every corner is decorated like a postcard but that's very normal here. I think this would be one of the last things to go here. We went down to Dallas for Thanksgiving and there were hardly any decorations anywhere. Of course it was 70 degrees, maybe that's what it was! lol
Peace prize president? Yeah, more like a Piece of Work pres.
I read that more than half of Americans have an average/below average IQ, which may explain why they don't even question the front page "news." I don't want to sound smarmy, but maybe we have a higher IQ.
I had a coworkers whose husband wanted to move to Dubai to work or something. I guess their plans have changed now.
Dubai is the playground of the rich, right? Hmmm. Interesting. Wonder what kinds of implications will have long term.
And no, I don't buy anything I don't need either. I may buy a nice soap or something to splurge on every blue moon or something, but otherwise we don't buy "stuff" that is not practical.
Tiger Woods can putt a little ball in a hole, oh wow. I wonder sometimes why ANYONE would find that fascinating, really. I'd rather watch a classical pianist play a piece of music or an opera. At least you get a sense of beauty and wonder from music or the arts, and a sense of the higher form of humanity. Putting a ball into a hole doesn't elevate the human spirit.
Politicians do not have the self discipline to cut spending drastically. Their goal is to gain and maintain a power base for themselves and/or their party. history demonstrates this. Making unpopular decisions anywhere near an election year will not happen.
I'm convinced business will continue as usual until it can no longer continue... the needed short term pain for long term gain wont happen.
To start we should be ending the 'American Empire' abroad to save $. eg get out of Korea etc
google 100 items to disappear first, and buy what you would use for barter or need in a collapse. Very helpful for preparing! Also, those in Argentina talked about blackouts for 3-4 hours at a time, so I got a bunch of Coleman propane tanks and a burner for heating without electricity
Very well done. Thank you for your time!

So should we party like it's 1999 this holiday season since it could be our last?

Well the infobabes keep pointing out the DOW is over 10k. People buy the fact this is the ultimate economic barometer.

Yeah, I am from California too. Even when I go to the more upscale areas there are ZERO Christmas decorations. Absolutely NOTHING.
