  • Foolahooga- quick to mock and very slow to actually come up with anything of real intellectual value. Simple people do things like engage in senseless back and forth about nothing really and spew hatred, laced with immature 5th grade responses extracting from those back and forth some kind of childish delight. He wants desperately to debate intelligently but does not have the mental resources available in order to engage in such debate so he is left with petty name-calling. Sad really

  • But Jerry Falwell and John Hagel are GREAT!!

  • People who do not have an open mind to intellecutal peolple, often fall short of knowing the true knowledge that is before them.

  • People who aren't smart enough to tell the difference between knowledge and propaganda often can't tell the difference between an intellectual and a quack.

  • if this answer has is the intellectual capacity of the average rapper than george bush is as smart as a toddler! too many big words for you ahooga?

  • Let me follow your reasoning: George Bush is stupid, therefore, Cornell West ought to be allowed to spread his racist propaganda unchallenged?

  • wow dude. read a book or something...

this is what typical white supremicists do. you don't understand something. so instead of doing any substantial research you just degrade it down to your level to where you can understand it. I bet you haven't read one of his critically acclaimed books or listened to one rap album. If you like I could give you some names of his books or an album from a progressive artist i enjoy

  • I don't have to taste shit to know that it's shit and not something to eat. Why don't you read Mein Kampf? Maybe you're not giving Hitler's ideas a fair chance? Why don't you read The Protocols of the Elders of Zion? Maybe the Jew-haters have a point? I'm a typical white supremacist? What are you typical of someone who calls anyone who disagrees with the views of a black ideologue a racist. It isn't possible to disagree with a black without being a racist, is it? You're a typical idiot.

  • you're a typical racist because you compared someone who has fought for the rights of an oppressed people and more recently all oppressed people to a man who committed genocide.

send me a quote and credible citation of Cornell West saying anything hateful to anyone

  • that is not black ideology it's freedom fighters ideology. but then again one man's freedom fighter is another mans terrorist. so maybe we're both wrong. or maybe we're both right. and i haven't read his auto-bio yet. i have been meaning though. i have a long list of books i want to read after college. but you seem to have a warranted empathy for the jewish community.

  • if you have a legitimate problem with the man then express it. don't compare a harvard and princeton educated man to some hoodlum rapper cause you will look like a racist and you will be called out for it. but yea. you send me a quote or video of Cornel West even saying much less doing something hateful Hitler would say then you win. you're not a racist or an ignoramus and i am truly am an idiot.

    happy searching

  • Cornell West preaches the ideology of black victimization by whites. He does this at the expense of blacks, because in preaching thus he reinforces black's belief that for all their problems whites are to blame. Instead of encouraging blacks to help themselves, he encourages them to believe they are at the mercy of whites. I compare him with rappers because I have watched him repeatedly ingratiate himself with rappers, praising them as artist/intellectuals and, yes, by imitating their speech.

  • if you knew more about the rappers he complimented or even admired (I wouldn't go as far as to say ingratiated himself with) then you wouldn't use that to insult him. you seem unable to distinguish between enlightening people on terribly neglected part of America and glamorizing a violent un-rewarding lifestyle.

is it safe to say you don't really think someone could compare Cornel West to Hitler anymore?

  • I never compared Cornell West to Hitler. I was showing the absurdity of your saying that in order to have an informed opinion of Cornell West I would have to study his writings and listen to his rap music. I've read chapters in his books. I've listened to his rap.

  • Search Youtube for Ayaan Hirsi Ali Avi Lewis if you would like to see a black woman, an extremely enlightened black woman, discuss "oppression" in the USA.

  • A Dutch, by way of Somalia is going to tell me about the history of American suffering? Really? She has spent less than one year in the US. Is an admitted liar not once but on numerous occasions in regards to how she obtained political asylum in the Netherlands and continues to "reinvent" herself so much she is already being called a "chameleon of a woman". I could not find one instance while searching where she was considered scholarly on any subject.

  • Many groups have suffered. Not every group has exploited as much mileage out of its suffering as the blacks.

  • if a prominent jewish intellectual leader spoke on behave of jews who could not speak for them selves.said "jews rise up and fight for your rights". and this intellectual used a bunch of words you don't understand would you say "If you don't understand what he's saying it's because he isn't speaking, he's rapping. You're not supposed to understand what he's saying; your'e supposed to tap your foot to it."? if you're not that ignorant then don't act like it on youtube

  • Cornell West doesn't use words I don't understand. He puts his words together in a way that makes him almost impossible to understand. Watch "Dr. Cornel West @ Brown University..." and you will even be warned that you might need an interpreter. Educated persons who intend to speak honestly and clearly do not need interpreters. You might as well tap your foot to his speech because it isn't good for anything else.

  • I'm sorry, vjfbrown, but Cornell West is a clown, an embarrassment to African Americans. African Americans do have intellectuals: Thomas Sowell; Shelby Steel; Juan Williams; Ayaan Hirsi Ali, and more.

  • Juan Williams is an intellectual? Really? Using what standard? Foolahooga stick to petty bickering, that is no doubt your forte!

  • "One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist" is a very nice example of moral relativism, or moral equivalence, depending how how the phrase is applied.

  • You are unable to distinguish between fighting for a man who is oppressed and convincing a man that he is oppressed in order that you can appear to be fighting for him.

  • ok ahooga. I still disagree but I can at least respect your latest comments. what I think you're overlooking when examining Dr. West is his audience. He doesn't say "oh poor me the black man oppressed by big whitey" to black people he says it to WHITE people. he goes all over the world with this message. he teaches at predominately white institutions! which is not his only one. He does tell black people to "get up off their ass". There should be YouTube video of him speaking at the Black Caucus

  • I've never looked at it that way. i'm going to ask a big favor of you. could you give me an example of someone who has fought or is fighting for an oppressed people and how they are different from Dr. West, whereas Dr. West convinces people of these things.

and the victimization of blacks by whites is not an ideology it's history and current events. and when he's at the podium doing his thing at Princeton he's not preaching he's teaching.

  • Cornell West wouldn't know oppression if he tripped over it. Truly oppressed people leave the oppressive state, like they leave Cuba and the former Soviet Union. A truly oppressive state won't let them leave. You see anybody leaving the USA? They're free to. American soldiers fight for oppressed people. I know: you disagree--you and Cornell. To Cornell and his disciples, America doesn't do anything unless it is for oil. If you gave Cornell an enema, you could feed his disciples for a year.

  • ahooga,

seems to me the "system of things" is a slippery slavery! balancing the pain with the pleasure i.e., your debt rises and quality of life goes down, while basqueing in vanity home ownership, national recognition and other ego materialisms. Is this a fair truth?

    IMPROVE YOUR TRUTH

    Skyler

  • equationoracle,

"Basking in vanity home ownership"? I'm not sure what your point is. Am I supposed to feel ashamed of owning a home? Am I supposed to feel some kind of obligation to give you my home? (Excuse me for correcting your spelling. "Basque," which you confused for "bask" (enjoy the comfort of), is the language spoken by the Basque people who inhabit the Pyrenees in North-Central Spain and the adjoining region of South-Western France.)

  • ahooga,

    Perspective is an interesting word.

From the perspective of elite social engineers oligarchical rule over the people is natural human ecology. From the perspective of the people, it is just plain wrong, to have such powers as not to allow for a fair fight for one's self determination.

From the perspective of Human Evolution and Human Ecology...to speculate what Evolution and Ecology would say...West is doing his part as it "was" supposed to be! Fair?

    IMPROVE YOUR TRUTH

    Skyler

  • equationoracle: Is this attempted poetry, or stream of consciousness? Either way, it's ambiguous enough to make Cornell West proud. Care to try it in prose? Care to try it using premises and conclusion?

    IMPROVE YOUR BULLSHIT

    Ahooga

  • Come again please.

  • He means that if you gave Cornell West an enema his disciples could feast for years. I agree.

  • cornell west truly is an intellectual.. way beyond comparative simpletons like Limbaugh and or coultier...

  • If you don't understand what he's saying it's because he isn't speaking, he's rapping. You're not supposed to understand what he's saying; your'e supposed to tap your foot to it.

  • BAM! listen : canibus

  • If they can't grasp today's challenges the African-American community has to face and understand a strategic format to address them, than they are good at NOTHING, and we have wasted our time and MLK legacy, from his death to 2008.

  • Cornell misunderstood Sen. Obama's presidential bid before (See Tavis Smiley's Feb. 07 debate), now he (flip-flopped) admires brother Obama, after a phone conversation with the Illinois Senator... I challenge Al Sharpton and Lewis Brown and many other Congressman Clyburn to look at the US history and ask themselves a question: " WHERE ARE WE GOING FROM HERE ?"

  • This is one cracker who really admires this guy. I think "Democracy Matters" is a great book, so many great quotes.

  • Life and people are about common sense and understanding. If anybody gets up and can't speak common sense truth in any arena of life then they are lying. I don't care if they are a lawyer, doctor, politicians, salesman, philosopher, or any leader of any kind. Life is about common sense. Man makes life hard because man tries to behave smarter than God created them. What fruit did God not want Adam eating from? The tree of knowledge of what is good and evil.

  • That's right. God didn't want people to know the difference between good and evil. He wanted us to stay animals.

  • "Crackers"-- it's 2007-- you still calling people crackers?

  • cornel west is nothing but a pawn . he couldnt sit at the sam table with Saint John henrik clarke or Saint Ben-Jochannan,or ashra Kwesi or even Saint Hajj el Malik el Shabazz aka.Malcolm x . Corney west likes to put on a big front for crackers,I get tired of hearing these new mental slave owners ,black people need to pick up more dam books insted of watching videos.

  • i luv cornel west...he is the MOST intelligent man to ever speak!!!

  • Khallid Muhammad was a fool, and a liar, cornel is a man of peace, khallid was a hateful racist.

  • We need good thinkers. That's the role this man fills. At least, that's my understanding. I don't know him intimately, but I know enough to say we need more clear and sophisticated thinkers like him doing what he's doing. Different people have gifts to play different roles in society. This man seems keenly fit to fill the role of which he is engaged in filling.

  • I would hate to get into a debate with that man. He is beyond his time.

  • Hey you should watch the debate between corney west and sister souljah you just might change ur mind lol

  • Man, really used to like this guy!! However, he talks a lot a big stuff and makes a living talking about preservation of the 'black' family. Then, dude marries a white woman. I don't get it. Nothing at all wrong with interracial marraige, but with some of the speeches and statements that this man makes, I really couldn't respect him anymore. He doesn't do anything but talk.....it's just talk. He's not a real black leader or role model for anyone who isn't a hypocrite.

  • billygoat, his wife is Ethiopian!

  • saw him speak at pasadena city college a few years ago, and to this day its probably one of the best speeches, orations, lectures etc. i have ever seen.

  • u must not have seen or heard many lectures...go pick up any lectures by John Henrik Clarke, Josef Ben Jochannan, Bro. Del Jones or Khallid Muhammad if u want to hear sumthin

  • West is a friggin genius.
