My weim's way of "playing" with any non-dog smaller than it is to bring it back to me. Squirrels, rabbits, and yes, cats will be brought back, mostly alive. If I'm not around, they get shredded. Weims are hunting creatures and they are very good at it. Mine was not raised around a cat and therefore prefers to shred the tasty things.

I have 3 cats and 3 dogs if you clip the cats claws the dogs will not respect the cat. the cats themselves don't use their claws much while playing and they are very careful not to hurt.

my cats are careful too but only until they go crazy. One scratches whens she's hiding in a box/rolled carpet. If somedody's hand gets close to her hideout she'll treat it as a prey and try to pull it in with her claws. The other cat didn't have siblings to learn from that scratching is unacceptable so he'll scratch whenever he feels good :)

I love it! My Weim and cat do that all the time...at first I was worried my cat would get hurt, but I was amazed when I realized that my Weim is submissive to my cat. They are, really, just playing! Especially now that it's cold, and my cat doesn't want to go outside to hunt and exercise, he looks to my Weim for fun and games.

I'm from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and i have a Weimaraner too, except he's nothing like yours.

he hates cats and any big breeds of dog, except Golden Retrievers, never really understood why. Any time he sees a cat he goes for it and doesn't stop until he catches it, kills it or gets outrunned. the same happens with dogs, and this behavior cost him some scars, broken theeth and lost part of both his ears in a fight with the neighboor's Pitbull. However with humans he's the sweetest pet ever!
