I seem to recall Wicket having a Slingshot in the 80's star wars cartoon. I think it was called The Ewok Adventure? Don't know, it's been awhile.

Wicket had a spear and a sling in RotJ so I assume they wanted him to have a ranged weapon then have to deal with 2 melee types...lazy true, but eh whatcha gonna do
