Downtown muskegon is a shithole. If you want to see the real muskegon you have to stick to the north or east or around the lake. everything else is run down by the people who quit trying and turned to drugs.
Where's the greatest asset Muskegon has ... the beach? (That and McDonald's Candies.) I don't need to see Meijer. This just reminds me of why I moved away many years ago.

The problem in Muskegon for 30 years now and for the reason why Muskegon Heights is nearly one of most capital murder town in USA<
Is because there were bunch of factories that been shut down before the 80s that left most of RR Tracks abandoned over there W/ most of them been tore off left 70% of African Americans that coming from "The South" unemployed, on welfare and cannot get out of it, still most of them still unemployed left alot of kids joining Gangs, Teen pregnancies out of widlock
I was born here and THANK GOD I've moved out when I was 2, I've always hate this Town, its too country feeling like Alabama. Now I live at Downtown Chicago and I LOVE IT.

It's just sad to see what it became due to the influx of people that don't (or won't) contribute to it in a positive way. It's overrun by leeches now. I left when I joined the Air Force shortly after graduating from high school and I haven't moved back, but still visit relatives that are still there. God bless Muskegon....

You're right...I was too harsh. Muskegon is a thriving metropolis. I should have said something like...enjoying the thriving economy. The museums, the restaurants....Muskegon is has great weather year round...aspire to higher living...Muskegon!

When I lived in L.A., a person can make $60,000 a year and still need welfare. With great risk comes great reward. Sad to see so many people not try anything that puts them outside their comfort zone. Not saying everyone should move to LA or NYC.
