Out of 92.6 millions total votes cast, the Richards total of 66,234 made much of a dent. That U.S. Populist Party fielded David Duke in 1988 and the James Bo Gritz in 1992. A far cry from the Populist Party of the 1890s, that's for sure.

First athlete to appear on the front of a Wheaties box (1958), and Wikipedia says he ran for president in 1984 under the far-right United States Populist Party banner. I don't remember that 1984 run. The Wheaties box, I remember.
