My dad's 1956 Packard Clipper was very fast and really beutifull in Tourqoise Blue and White center stripe and plenty of shiney chrome. She had the rear wheel well custom skirts, tortion level and push button control. The seats were black with silver threads. My favorite car of all time outside of my 2004 Competion Mustang GT Ford.
@PeterDad60 Ah, those sweet memories of dad's car when we were young. That Packard was a beauty from what you described. I have posted several Mustang videos that you might want to look at and thanks for viewing this Packard.
@55lincoln For normal driving I would prefere my Dad's Packard Clipper over any new car. As for street racing, I'm happy with what my Mustang provides. It's not the most expensive nor the fastest since it's a stock GT and it's 7 years old, but hey it still puts me in the game. I think for road racing it's the skill of the driver, after you have a car that can go 150mph and stop fast enough and handle well enough if you have the coolness to stay at the controls no matter what.
@PeterDad60 Ah, you're a Mustang fan! I have posted several Mustang videos if you want to view them. Mustangs can really rock and I love them also. Thanks for viewing and contributing.
@compukenny Clipper was the low end of Packard models but by '56 Clipper was droped and the only Packard models were the Executive, at the bottom, Patrician, four hundred, and then Caribbean at the top. thanks for viewing and enjoying this snazzy Packard.
@55lincoln The Executive was added late in the model year and replaced the Clipper Custom; Deluxes and Super remained available. Clippers were considered a separate make for model year 1956 only, and were registered as such. The Executive is a technical twin of the Clipper Custom. Differences are in the "senior" front clip, straight side chrome and trim details in- andf outside. During the 3 months of it's existence, only 1,031 hardtops and 1,784 sedans were built.

Thanks, I had a 53 clipper in 1972. even then as a 19 year old car it was a smooth quiet ride. I sold the car a year or two later too a man in Cincinatti ohio, who started restoration. He sold it to another person that did a very nice restoration on it. I saw the car after it was restored. It was beautiful. Lost track of it after that but I bet its still out there somewhere.
@yamahaRT1M What an experience you had working on a 54 Packard! Yes, and Packard has a great history and produced some very classy products over the decades. And it was a shame how Packard ended up. Thanks very much for commenting.
Those cathedral tail lights are really an outstanding feature. By the mid 50s almost all of the independents had disappeared, When Ford and GM started slugging it out for market share it was tough for the small fry to survive.
@cheddyrod What you say is historically correct. Studebaker/Packard, Nash, Hudson just didn't have the financial resources to update their cars although all of the above produced great cars. Then, as you said, Ford & GM were slugging it out by heavily discounting their cars. The independents didn't have a chance.
God what have we let them do to America !
