I agree with the comment below,... first rule of music...no rules. Do what sounds and feels right! I like the sound and syncopation of the song. I like the combination of picking and chords... Nice job Paul! OBTW,... you got enough brim on that hat to sell shade!
Actually, the way he played was more complex and interesting than the usual plectrum style, and I say that as a person who started out as a plectrum player. You might have also noticed that he didn't didn't use the the usual plectrum tuning, and I think that also adds to the originality of his performance. Great job.
Awesome...I just won an Old Folk Banjo(4string) I assume it's a plectrum not a tenor...and I already play clawhammer on my 5 string..so I like to see that it can be done on the four cause thats my intention...of course...I combine many styles... but always fall back on clawhammer.... Great vid!! Aren't u from The Beverly Hillbillies?? ;-)
@TheCuilinn They used to say that too Earl Scruggs...something along those lines of.." Why is he playin it with his three fingers he should be frailing it its a Banjo..." Uhm... ITS MUSIC !!! THERE ARE NO RULES!!!

what is the difference between a plectrum banjo and a tenor banjo?

@ghsr82
Structurally, the plectrum has a longer neck.

Nice playing. Very innovative. I play plectrum and you can see and hear it at peterbanjo .
Keep playing, Peter

I really dig it! Thank you! Question - what tuning do you use?

I like it.
Also, very good, clean sounding instrument, in spite of its relatively low cost.

@jazzbanjobanjoman Thanks. Yes, it's a very fine instrument.

I'm happy to see another finger-style player using a plectrum banjo. Big win, right here.
