if you have new wheels and bearings and they are not spinning try cleaning your bearings. If you dont have the knowledge or the equipment to do so bring them to your local skating rink and ask them to clean them for you or purchase the equipment to do so. Citrus cleaner works great and always use oil in your bearings not grease because oil will spin more freely. Cheers.
also when she is talking about how tight you should tighten your wheels on your skates it is always the same for indoor and outdoor. you should always tighten your nut till your wheel does not spin freely then back it off 1/4 turn until your wheel spins freely and does not wobble. If your wheel wobbles tighten it back 1/8th turn and check again. You want your wheel to spin this way because it gets you the best motion and will not wobble causing damage to your skates or yourself.
ok well i dont get why she is talking about the millimeter size of the wheel when she is talking about the hardness of the wheel is not determined by the millimeter size but by the hardness scale which has a number followed by the letter A in most cases. a outdoor wheel is usually between 70A-80A because they are pretty soft and allow for a grippier smoother ride and a indoor wheel usually goes from 82A-102A depending on how hard you want your wheel. This video is not a good source for wheels.
I just bought a pair of roller skates. And my wheels are pretty big, and the rim of them are sharp, unlike yours. Are they okay for roller skating rinks? And they also have high ankles. Is that a good thing for beginners??? PLEASE RESPOND!
@rockstar7809 thats because you have regular skates, the lady in the video has speed skates. Speed skates have wheels that are NOT sharp and a low tops . Regular skates like yours usually come with hi tops and sharp wheels. If you dont like your wheels you can always buy some wheels of your choice. IN OTHER WORDS, REGULAR SKATES(old school) are hi top, basketball shoes, which are best for beginners(my opinion) because of tight handling. SPEED SKATES are like new balance shoes(comfy and light):-)
This woman has no idea what she's talking about. First of all that is a speed skate [I'd love to see her on artistic skates] and she needs to spend less time talkinging about wheels and more time talking about the plate. And another thing how is the starp ment to prevent blisters, someone please enlighten me.
I have a pair of very old but somewhat expensive Chicago quad roller skates that I bought in 1980. I need to buy some replacement wheels but I'm not sure what to buy exactly have been out of the skating scene for a while. I don't want to spend much more than 50 or 60 bucks if possible. Any recommendations from any experts out there?
@MrEmesis id recommend the witchdocter wheels! They are amazing for speed, jam and dont grip to much or too little. I work at a rink so i would know. But get the blue or turquise looking ones. The color tells the amount of grip.
After decades of not skating I started going again about 2 1/2 years ago. It's like riding a bike, once you learn you never forget. When I bought my skates online I wanted to be sure to get leather boots. They are more durable than vinyl and they don't keep perspiration in. New ones were a little out of my range, but I found a great pair on the clearance page. They were returned by a customer and I got them for about what I paid for leather ones in 1978.
white people of so verbal.... I teach how to roller too... you just watch and try what I do ... bus your ass. get up and try it again.. in time, about 5 months , you'll be just like me.. my teaching is look and learn....that's how we do... check it out....
Advice like not having fast spinning wheels is what stops a lot of people from skating. I see it all the time at the rink. Novices complaining about their legs hurting, then i check their wheels and they barely move. They are just burning their legs out fighting the resistance. I just loosen their wheels and the usually do much better out there.
Bad advice, that is a pretty crappy boot she's showing - you need ankle support! Plus, flexability has more to do with the stiffness of the boot (gold or silver) rather than making the boot shorter. And like Kris said, the wheels should spin free not slowly. Also, toe stops are interchangable, so buying skates doesn't have much to do with judging toe stops - they are interchangeable whether you want to put dance plugs in or whatever.
Ok A boot skate is the boot which comes up above your ankle. These are more like a speed skate boot. You shouldn't use stoppers to stop & start, these were mainly used in the 70's for the roller discos, & now 4 jumps 4 figure skating, A t-start & t-stop are the right way.
