This was one of those "defining moments" in the progression of hip hop to the mainstream. It looks like most people in the audience were scared they were about to get mugged.
Mane I been waiting for somebody to post this for so long! I remember when I first saw this I was thinking to myself that the crowd had know idea what to expect since hip hop really just getting to the mainstream.
ah yeah, the song was CALLED "go cut creator go"....but it was CLEARLY Bobcat that was "going"...that boy went bananas.....no wait, he went BONANZA!!!!
I remember this episode! 87 or 88? He only performed once. The other musical performer was Michael Penn. Weird. I don't know if SNL ever did that before or after. I was pissed. I wanted to see LL twice!
Classic song, classic hip hop, LL was a true pioneer for rap music, no doubt.. it's kind of a trip to look back at these old mainstream performances, if this were a hip hop crowd, they'd be getting ultra hyped, instead of this stiff-azzed new-wave 99% caucasian rock crowd that probably have preferred to see Cutting Crew that night or something.. hah-ha..
I also remember watching this and getting HYPE AS HELL in my living room all late at night. My mom yelled at me. This song and moreso the performance is classic. Too bad the white people in the audience can't feel it. :(
Call me crazy, but I believe Bobcat did the scratchin' and cuts on this joint! I love Cut Creator, but he's not as swift on tha 1 and 2's as Cat. Those scratches are more in line with Bobcat's signature scratch patterns. The song obviously pays homage to CC, but maybe L. was just puttin' shine on Bobcat, gettin' his name out there. I think he gave Bobcat a lot of juice throughout that whole Def Jam tour. By the way, whatever happened to E. Love?
I think this was because Bob Cat and the LA Posse did the production on the 2nd album so it was natural for him to do the cutz instead of Cut Creator.
I was tripping because BobCat was using the same needles I was, some ADC cartridges from Radio Shack. Couldn't afford a Numark 1150 mixer though! LOL!!!!
This is from a time BEFORE musical guests were lip synching on SNL... this was also a time when music was still MUSIC. I can only feel sorry for today's younger generation.
That's cold blooded how L.L. playin cut creator....The name of the song is "Go Cut Creator Go" but L.L. keep tellin Bobcat to cut the record. He playin it raw. He act like cut creator not standing next to Bobcat.
I just think he's mentioning Bobcat since Cut Creator is mentioned often during the performance. He also mentions E Love, another member of his crew just to show love.
No he didnt mention him just cuz he mention cut creator in the song! The song is GO Cut Creator GO! Not Go Bob Cat GO! Bob Cat was 10 times better than Cut Creator anyway thats why LL had him doing all the live perfomances. Cut Creator was an 'AVERAGE' dj. who sucked anyway. Bob Cat did all da cuts on Jack The Ripper too.

@benbones666 They couldn't feel it because of the politics of the time. It's a different world now.

LL put Bobcat on the team because of chill will and barry bee. He like how doug was rocking with the two dj's.
