And even though it is true that they always put slavery and Martin Luther King into everything- it is actually relevant here- because Jefferson's words in the Declaration are what made it legally, constitutionally and philosophically possible- and eventually necessary for equal rights among all people of all races. So while I know race issues are usually abused and injected into everything, it is actually very relevant in this case for certain.
The greatest politician who ever lived. Hands down. Brilliant to the maximum- and his existence was imop divinely appointed by God. He was NOT a perfect man- not by far- for no man is perfect. But Jefferson is the soul of what it means to be American. Freedom and Liberty in the US stem from the manifestation of his learned and intuited wisdom in the Declaration of Independence- the greatest governmental document ever written- and the backbone of the US constitution.
jefferson must be the most misquoted, misunderstood human being ever to walk the earth. there are people in the world (many in the press) that could spend a century studying jefferson and still misquote him and unintentionally take what he had to say out of context. nonetheless, although i am not an american, he is my hero and role model.
@samm1809 I think this quote makes his political view very clear; it's very hard for anyone to twist it to suit their purposes:
"A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government."
Ah and likewise; though I'm a Norwegian living in Australia, Jefferson is my hero and role model as well.
I learned from a dcoumentary aired on History Channel that "Self-evident" expression was suggested by Ben Franklin to replace the word "sacred" written by Thomas Jefferson in the first draft.
Ironic that the third President of our United States impregnated his slaves while creating our Constitution which proclomates, "ALL Men are created equal." Happy Memorial Day!
@HapaOhio That was in the decleration & look into the reason why he owned slaves. He owned them because he thought that many didn't take good enough care of slaves, and that because of that he would take great care of them. Trust me, he was the most against slavery than any of our founders. The only reason the founders didn't get rid of slavery, is because it was to big on the economy then.
@HapaOhio Thomas Jefferson tried many times throughout his political life and personal life later in Virginia to free slaves. He could not have done it alone. Courts and public refusal squashed all of his advances for equal rights. He did what he could.
Jefferson was also a man of faith. It is no mistake that he used the words "endowed by their creator" - he was a Theist- not a Deist- for sure and one beautifully wrote "I hold (without appeal to revelation) that when we take a view of the Universe, in its parts general or particular, it is impossible for the human mind not to perceive and feel a conviction of design, consummate skill, and indefinite power in every atom of its composition." He also once remaked that "Christ was divine for sure"
@frost122585 History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes. - thomas jefferson
@frost122585 It is between fifty and sixty years since I read it [the Apocalypse], and I then considered it merely the ravings of a maniac, no more worthy nor capable of explanation than the incoherences of our own nightly dreams.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to General Alexander Smyth, Jan. 17, 1825
you shouldnt listen to everything glenn beck tells you or david barton
@addyr100 Your quotes my be accurate but your point is ignorant. I don't watch beck buddy. Sorry. Secondly, Jefferson was a rationalist and a protestant. You need to do some history and realize not everyone who accepts the existence of a God and accepts Christ's divinity thinks that everything in the Bible is accurate and true. Jefferson was still a Thesit who said to John Adams that Christ was "divine for sure." You need to stop listening to everything Wolf Blitzer tells you.
@frost122585 first of all i dont even know who wolf blitzer is and secondly i apoligize for being rude and you are right i probably should read some more stuff before i speak. also what sources told you all this about jefferson i would like to read up
@addyr100 You sound like you have a brain. That's rare these days. I got some of my information from a biography on Jefferson by Saul Padover. Get a copy on Amazon- one of the best reads I have ever had.
@addyr100 Good luck! Jefferson really is one of the most interesting and special people in history. He made the difference and set the stage of what the US would become as far as liberty is concerned. Had Jefferson not been born the US would truly be more like England- in the ways the Federalists Hamilton and Adams were pushing for. Also Jefferson really did not say too much on God and Theology. He avoided it as he was a Theistic rationalist- just believed in a God and Christ to some degree.
Due to "political correctness", no doubt. Seems a bit forced to me. In any case, Frederick Douglas is a far more admirable black man than Martin Luther King.
I especially dislike King for having been such a big opponent of Barry Goldwater.

Why is Martin Luther king inserted into everything ever produced? Yet, nobody ever studies his character, private life and secret views.
