Emir Kusturica was born in Sarajevo, main town of current Bosnia and Herzegovina. Even though bosniak muslim, his family has slavic orthodox roots. His father Murat, as many millions of other yugoslavs, had renounced to his faith to become a communist. Emir, only son, denounced the communism to become... director.

kustarica has made some movies about gypsies and these movies. this shows how he approach the freedom. i admire his manner that he shows beauties in the life. long live kustarica.. and thanks to the one who sent this video

Emir is not a muslim name, neither. (mohammed would have been a muslim name) Its just a common name in bosnia.
Some people call their children Kevin, Natascha, Sascha or Jaqueline - without beeing British/American, Russian or French a all.
Kusturica ist a christian-orthodox Serb.
