  • There is no equal to Hitchens. Don't ever forget that.

  • Reasonably well matched? No disrespect to the good Mr. Wilson... but no. I've watched their debates before. No one stands toe to toe in a debate with Hitch and survives.

  • I like how Hitchens and Wilson became friends and found out how much they had in common. Hitchens and Wilson both said they walked away with new positive beliefs in Christianity and Atheism.

However, most of you people are intolerant assholes and really need to have your internet aken away from you.

  • @Aaronsxedge stf noob , religion is incongruent and its a menace to humanity, u r the reatarded who needs to stf. ty

  • Christopher rules. I believe it to be true that a large percentage of the population does need lots of structure and confinement such as santa, jesus, devil, legal system etc. etc. but thank goodness that there does exist a group that were hard wired for thoughtfulness and common courtesy at birth.

  • Christopher rules.

  • Hitchens for president!

  • Wilson has actually said, and I saw it so I know it´s true, that he has no problem with genocide as long as god commands it. The man should be executed.

  • @yatter1 It's not so strange, there are many who justify their faith by it. It is a different world on the other side of the looking glass, i guess. Down with religion, up with critical thinking!

  • Man, now I want to see this. It's going to be a bloodbath. Poor Wilson, he doesn't stand a ghost of a chance against Hitch.

  • In a shameless, desperate ploy to promote his alleged competency, Wilson calls attention to his own intellectual inadequacies by attempting to exude pity for believers by referring to them as "beaten up". Sanctimonious, religious zealots have been proselytizing and bullying non-believers for thousands of years. To refer to the structure of argument by atheists as "sophomoric" by those who believe in something devoid of evidentiary proof is simply a desperate, last gasp effort to appear viable.

  • has any meaning whatsoever. Its all blind evolutionary progress to a meaningless end. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this life will never grant the fullfillment that it claims to provide. The whole world is set up to distract you from the One reality which has a lasting impact on your life. YES! You guessed it! Only by the grace of God through the Cross of Jesus Christ can you experience any lasting peace in this life and the next. Yes, AND THE NEXT! Jesus IS life. (Jn. 14:6)

  • Honestly, debate doesn't get any better than this. Two very kind and intelligent men with great respect for one another, who actually listen to each other's side of the story and respond accordingly. You just can't find this kind of courtesy anymore.

  • @ILikeLincolnLogs Here here ! Would this were the case on blogs and youtube ! While I am squarely in Hitchen's camp, Wilson is a worthy adversary and I've much respect for him.

  • @SetOfAllReals not really a worthy adversary. hitchens made minced meat out of wilson. and wilson is an idiot for claiming that atheists have not answered a lot of christian apologetics claims. he's to blind to see reason, and that is not the quality of a worthy adversary. nor does he deserve respect. just another brainwashed moron.

  • I am a christian and I like Hitchen, in my opinion, religion is not the problem, its human nature.

  • I agree. The cause for human misery is often human nature. But I see religion as a catalyst, a moral loophole, that allows cynic individuals to appeal to the very worst in human nature and induces large groups of inherently good people to do (or support) wicked things.

  • I see religion can be bad in multiple ways and I accept that there are religious wars, fanaticism, cults, murders, blood sacrifices, ect. but I know there are good things about religion...I don't like when people abuse religion, its sad but true...I wish that we can improve religion...

  • @TheShinema there are no good thing about religion, and we should do away with it, not improve it. doesn't matter how you try to scent the shit, it remains shit.

  • @brownbigb religion is like communism, people think it is a good idea but the system is just too corrupt because of human nature

  • @TheShinema we can improve religion by getting rid of it, I wish

  • I've watched many debates between Hitchens and Wilson and look forward to checking this movie out.

Personally I dont think the religious have(so to speak)a leg to stand on if things like truth, reason, rationality and logic are what you hold dear.

Although I'm a pretty staunch atheist I will happily say that I do respect Wilson for being a true believer as opposed to the many charlitans out there!

That said,I also think his beliefs are totally irrational and firmly based on delusion.

  • Christian Apologetics is an oxymoron. Not 'Moron' in the last sentence.

  • A "layer of Christian apologetics" that "atheists haven't yet engaged with"? Please. Apologists like Wilson expend a tremendous amount of intellectual energy trying to obscure the central points of their faith in order to protect them from just such an engagement.

  • well said

  • That's exactly what it is. They can't fight on level ground so they flee to the hills and complain when we don't follow.

  • I completely agree with you, Clumsy. Wilson is making a tragic mistake here, sort of assassinating his character.

The only arguements a christian ever makes for his case that cannot be answered by an atheist are those types of arguments for which there is no answer.

Making statements like "I shouldn't have to prove god's existance because that's like asking a car to prove the existance of Henry Ford." Now THAT, is sophomoric.

At least get a theist answer Hitchen's great challange.

  • Well put. Apologists are a slippery bunch.

  • Have you seen the movie???

  • No, but I've seen them debate before.

  • Then you should also know that, as Hitchens himself said in a Slate article: "Wilson isn't one of those evasive Christians who mumble apologetically about how some of the Bible stories are really just 'metaphors'...He doesn't waffle when asked why God allows so much evil and suffering."

I don't know, but I kinda trust Hitchens just a LITTLE more than you when it comes to evaluating Wilson's debating abilities/shortcomings.

He WAS, after all, his contender for numerous debates.

  • Hitchens also seems to have a great deal of respect for Dinesh D'Souza, which is equally baffling to me...

I was giving my opinion (which I sorta thought was the point of these comment boards), Unless you think it better for me to squelch my own conclusions and simply defer to Mr. Hitchens on such matters?

  • Actually, that's exactly what I would suggest: defer to Mr. Hitchens on such matters. Because, who better than Hitchens to evaluate Wilson's debating strenghts and weaknesses?

I find it curious that you're opinion is the exact opposite of what Hitchens said in his article. Makes me think that you're opinion is based on nothing but prejudice against Christianity and its apologists.

Sure you can voice you're opinion, but if I deem it dishonest and not well thought out, I can counter it too.

  • What am I doing here, defending a thesis?

It's YouTube, for Christ's sake! Get a life.

  • Sorry for being rude. YouTube brings out my dark side. ;)

I have no animosity towards Christians in particular, but I do think that the entire apologetic enterprise is founded on ad hoc rationalizations. Believers start with their religious presumptions, and their intellectual energy is then devoted to "defending the faith"--that is, buttressing those preconceptions. IMO, that is the opposite of the way a free mind should work.

I'm sure there are exceptions, but I've yet to run across them.

  • I think I would certainly like to know what part of my arguments are sophomoric.

  • Make a case against the God of Christianity and I'll show you :)

  • What is sophomoric about noting that there is no postive evidence for the claims made by many Christians.

  • @ObjectiveBob the case against the god of christianity is simple. it does not exist.

  • Well as an atheist I'm interested to hear what extra level of thought Christianity has. My sense is he thinks more of his position than he should, and as for sophomoric atheist arguments, whether they are sophomoric has nothing to do with his ability to answer them logically, which he appears to have failed to do thus far.

  • Shouldn't your username be SurelyJew Yest?

  • Wilson is a fucking moron!!!! LOL

Just give them a mic, let them drown themselves.

Unfortunately, there's me and about 100 other people who actually comprehend what's being said and realize how idiotic the defenders of faith really are.

  • excatly

  • I've watched some of Wilson's debates, and I've got to say that he's not the best choice to go up against Hitchens. He's simply not that smart; uses way too much because-I-say-so logic.

  • Yeah, it's called theism.

    Bullshit huh?

    lol

  • Yes but that is why you could make this film with no other. Most Christian apologists spend all their time jumping around from reason to faith to quasi-logic to scripture to pseudo-science back to faith. Wilson does only what anyone interested in a real discussion asks, and that is to stand firm by your proposition.

For that reason, he is the most suitable participant.

  • I disagree. I've seen Hitchens debate much smarter men, who put on much more entertaining debates. They would have been better off with someone else.

  • Comment removed

  • Im not saying Wilson is the smartest of all men Hitchens has debated. Im saying he's the only one I know of, of the many Hitchens debates, that actually fully believes that the bible is the truest world view with the least amount of secular influence.

An movie between someone like William Lane-Craig and Hitchens is just a debate with a modern Aquinas. Someone who cant complete a syllogism. "Painting needs a painter, therefor Homosexuals are evil sinners".

  • LOL!

  • As an aside, regarding Craig and homosexuality, Craig actually writes, in his book "Real Answers", one of the best indictments of the treatment of homosexuals by "Christians" that I've seen.

  • October 17th, for the ppl asking.

  • It's great to see a Christian willing to debate in a civilised manner with an 'anti-theist' (as Hitchens describes himself). As an athiest , I welcome any debate from religious people that provokes contemplation over rolling my eyes an day. Wilson comes across as genuine and a cound case of why Christianity works for many people.

  • You've teased and thrilled me more than enough.

Where and when can I watch this?

Tell me now or I shall stab you to death with a teaspoon.

  • i look forward to seeing the results.

  • This is going to be the Hitchinators finest hour Wilson is going down in flames.

  • @hoglymogly Actually, as Hitchens himself stated, Wilson held his own quite well. Hitchens admitted he was forced to look at things in ways he had not been compelled to before, care of Douglas Wilson. It's not about hating one side or the other. It's about understanding. If you're rooting for someone to "go down in flames" then you don't get the nature of the debate. You still have a child's understanding of the issue.

  • @hoglymogly Perhaps. I am no longer a believer but I haven't seen the movie yet. I will here in a few minutes.

  • Long live Christopher Hitchens, one of the greatest minds of our time.

  • yes, my favorite mind of our time and slowly but surely becoming the favorite of all time

  • WHEN will we have a release date? Anyone??
