  • The first trombone looks like Shostakovich!

  • The video editor really shit the bed on this one!

  • La música muy bien, pero el vídeo parece de un videoclip pop

  • what the hell is with the flashes of instruments. It's making me laugh more than anything else

  • @chibillama24 OMGIKR! I swear the exact same guy that made this video made this one too! watch?v=Vf0e_n49dcQ

  • the conductor looks a bit like Mr. Bean

  • The Camera is Confused

  • Perfect time, not too fast. I´d like to find the others parts of this synphony. Where can i find? Thanks

  • absolutely not too fast, perfect tempo... gives the whole thing a kind of virtuosity!

  • Thanks for posting. The orchestra is very good, and the film is hot, though for me, Mravisnsky's sound is better, as is budget-priced Barshai with the WDR orchestra. Bychkov is simply too rushed to my ears. Allegro NON TROPPO means just that, a clear warning against excess speed. The others get a more stark, bare sound by pacing it like a blasting, violent, unstoppable hideous machine.

  • I agree. Too fast.

  • How long ago was this? BTW, this is quite a work of dynamic orchestral cinematography.

  • Way too fast.

  • Would anybody get angry if I say this reminds me of Neon Genesis Evangelion music? >_>

  • the camera editing done by someone who has their shit together!

  • 0:14 is where it starts. (I just wanted to generate the link...:P)

  • i didn't mean the piece i meant the performance. mravinsky conducting this same movement will make your hair stand on end

  • sorry but after hearing mravinsky, this is like a high school kids picnic on the beach. mravinsky generates such tension and menace its almost unbearable

  • @munegatame

I disagree. Shostakovich has got some of the most intense and best music in my own opinion.

Still, the Russians know how to write some bad ass orchestral pieces.. :D

  • It is a little bit to fast. Mravinski is the best.

  • Great song, really cool visual effects to go with it.

  • nice effects

  • Hi, where did you get this video from? i searched the net and couldn't find a dvd of it. Cheers

  • could you put the ending of the 2nd mvt. as well?

    thanks

  • this is a moto perpetuum. it is very difficult because the strings have to keep a perfectly steady tempo. and to play it on trombones! i dont think the transition from strings to brass could have been any more unexpected! Go shostakovich!!!!

  • The videography is astounding! It makes the music come at you like a 3D movie! Even those that hate classical music would take the time to watch this (I hope) ! LOL

  • lets go bones!

  • pretty good...but his earlier Berlin recording is better.

  • The only conductor in the world capable to use his cheeks to show all quavers...

  • @cicaNezer hahaha

  • @cicaNezer You know, Yes!

  • @cicaNezer But they're not quavers! They're crotchets...

  • I'm seeing Semyon Bychkov conduct Shostakoich's 11th at the BBC Proms in August. I'm weel excited, he seems a very good conducter.

  • woow you are so lucky! he is the best conductor of Shostakovich in the world! that is going to be AMAZING!

  • Something amazing ... I don't like Russians much (I'm from Poland) but Schostakowitsch music is great.

  • I'm Russian and I like Poles coz they so funny don't like Russians. hahah

  • Dang! The cinematography is just violent! I wanna know who directed this video

  • Takie tempo lubię. Skrzypce i trąbki tworzą tu niesamowite napięcie. Zbliżające się niebezpieczeństwo jest gdzies blisko ale ktoś jest bardziej przebiegły i nie da się złapać. Wydaję się mi że działają tu jakieś dwie przeciwstawne siły. Cudowne to wszystko.

  • Good Flugelhorn solo !

  • Flugelhorn???

That is a rotary(valve) trumpet ("Drehventil-Trompete" or "Deutsche Trompete") pitched in C made by Schagerl.

The player is Gabor Tarkövi, actually principal trumpet of the Berlin Philharmonic. In this case he plays as substitue with the WDR.

  • Isn't that just a rotary trumpet?

  • rotary trumpet...not a f/h

  • Very nice Solo from Gabor Tarkövi but this is a trumpet

  • A+ for the trombones

  • great trombonist

  • Amazing

  • яко!!!

  • semmy isnt very pretty but i love him anyway

  • Very good !!! Amazing !!!
