hi mr when I connect my laptop to old tv using vga to s-video cable . on tv just I see my laptop screen in 3 recurve black .how to fix it Im using win 7 ...tnx sorry for typing..
@karlanaime It is most likely a simple resolution issue. Please call our tech support at 801-356-3823 and we can walk you through getting that set to the correct resolution. Thank you.
@chansell15 This will work with any TV or monitor that has a Yellow composite video input, and your computer source needs to have a VGA output (if your computer doesn't have a VGA port, then yes, you will need an adapter).
ok fine great , a very good tool but while the laptop power is on and lets assume if the laptop has the mechanism that the laptop monitor switches off after some inactivity time to conserve power but what solution can Sewell offer practical for watching entertainment such as a 2 hour movie you know for digital formats.
@jaundist I'm assuming your computer is going to sleep while you're watching movies? You can just turn off sleep mode from the operating system or set the inactivity period to longer than the movie that you're watching.
@sewelldirect so let me get this strait u take the blue wire Hook it up to your desk tops graphics card (or on bord graphics card) and then to the connverter then take the yellow wire hook that up to the other yellow thingy on the back of the TV then u take the white and red wires and hook them up in the white and red jacks in the back?
@MsKilla55 Yes, that is the proper setup procedure for the unit. In addition to that physical setup you will want to make sure that your VGA port is outputting a 1024x760 video signal.
@HPLeoXu That could be a number of issues, most likely you don't have the computer set to the correct resolution or you have the PAL/NTSC switches in the wrong direction. Make sure your computer is outputting 1024x768 and that those switches are in the NTSC position if you are in North America.
so does it only plays videos thats stored on my computer? or can i stream movies that i my be online watching? they have a couple of web sites wear u can watch live tv. also can i stream live tv from my computer to my tv? or does it has to be only videos or movies thats stored on my computer? trying to aviod a cable bill! lol!
@thick2727 It just outputs to your television as if it were a second monitor. Anything you could do on your native monitor you can do with this converter.
@joseph89686 Sorry for the delay, for some reason your comment was marked as spam. Yes, these work with legacy TV sets. All you need is a yellow RCA input.
I have one of these, they are junk if you output them to a CRT TV, you may as well but a vid card (PC) that allows you to dual view. If you are sourcing it to a modern tv, all you need is VGA cable.
I am trying to get it to work as a second monitor for my desktop with windows 7, when I try to set up the display it just gives me the bars, and Ive tried multiple settings to try to fix this. also when I plug in the monitor out my monitor just blinks when the power to the converter is pluged in. what I really want to do is duplicate my current second monitor on my tv if possible.
@Rogueleader17 Make sure the computer is outputting to the correct resolution and that your VGA port is turned on, make sure that the converter is powered and plugged in correctly. If you want to duplicate what you see on your monitor you can us the VGA passthrough port on the converter.
Hey John we'd love to help you with your issue. These kinds of tech support problems are best taken care of over the phone here is our number 18007091345 we are open Monday -Friday from 6 am - 6 pm MST. Thanks!
@sewelldirect Yeah, well thanks, but unfortunately I don't live near where you are and obviously can't call 'cause it'll be too expensive, I would like to recieve the answer directly, if such is possible. I've consulted many forums but didn't find the answer yet, so your help would be welcome. Thanks.
@JohnFortman We also have an online chat system that you can use if you'd like to get in touch. Your PC to TV converter should display at the correct resolution and in full color. If you get only black and white signal something else in your system is wrong, either you got the wrong converter from us or are trying to plug our converter into an unsupported video format. The most common reason for black and white signal is trying to plug a Component RCA plug into a Composite RCA jack.
@JohnFortman the difference between S-video and composite is that S-video essentially separates the color and black-and-white signals and sends them down different channels. An S-video to RCA cable (or adapter) should be able to combine the two channels passively, but there might be an issue with the cable, or with the S-video port on your video card. We'd recommend trying to test the S-video connection with a different cable and/or display if possible.
@redroster412 Most desktops will automatically detect and output video on the VGA port. If yours is not doing that all you need to do is enable the second monitor from your Display Settings.
@redroster412 Connect the VGA cable to your computer and right click on your desktop. Scroll down to "Graphic Options" and mouse over "Output To" and select any of those. I use the Intel Dual Display Clone (Notebook + Monitor) because I can't make out the text in the menus using only the monitor.
@bmwgtrm3 That unit converts to the legacy 480i standard definition. Movies and video are generally okay on that resolution but text is very hard to read.
@JustBeingAnthony In answer to all of your questions yes it will automatically adjust to your display size no there is no known delay that we are aware of however it hasn't been tested in a setup like yours and all the USB does is power the unit. Thanks for asking!
Also, is there any delay? I am planning to use this for StepMania (a computer-based DDR game) but the steps need to be accurate spot on. If there is a lag, can it be fixed? Thanks.
@cutmorefilms Yes, the VGA pass through will ignore the zoom. When zoomed, you can pan the image around, and it only zooms in one time to about 20-25% of the image.
Hi,I have purchased this converter a while ago but never tried to hookup with my tv,but now I did now and i am very pleased to see the video result on my analog tv.only thing is that instead of providing to two types of wires to connect tv they could provide audio cable as well.I tried to connect some of spare old type audio cable with my pc and tv but no success.can you please tell me what kind of audio cable will be able to conect my tv and pc?
@winkflash58 If you have the SW-22050 PC to TV converter you would need the SW-7921-6 Stereo to RCA cable. That will let you plug into the L and R RCA ports on your TV from the headphone jack on your computer. We also have a video converter, the SW-23000, that includes an audio channel.
@D12WorldNight Do you mean, "how do you work this device on a desktop PC?" If that is what you meant, than it will work just the same. There is a VGA passthrough that your computer monitor will hook into. That way you will have both your monitor and your TV displaying the image. You can adjust these settings in the "Display Properties" on your computer.
Is that the DELL LATITUDE D630 or a different model. I have the DELL LATITUDE D630 which used to have windows vista but I upgraded it from vista to windows 7. There is a much more simple way of connecting your laptop to your TV. Just buy the VGA cable, plug it in and screw it in to both your laptop and your TV then for audio just buy a bog standard AV cable and that will carry the sound for you. I have only used the VGA option because my TV isn't HD. Connecting the audio to a Hi - Finext comment
@66trooper It sounds like the dip switches are not in the correct position on your unit. Please call our tech support at 801-356-3823 and we can walk you through the setup to make sure everything is working properly.
He people!! I have problem with my tv to pc converter. IT IS NOT WORKING, I'have connected everything but there is no picture on the tv. I dont know what to do.
When I hoke up everything, there is only some kind of interference and my laptop desktop goes off when I hoke up everything.
IF SOMEBODY COULD HELP ME, I WOULD ALSO MAKE A VIDEO AND PUT IT ON YOUTUBE, SO THAT HE COULD ACTUALLY SEE, EVERYTHING...PLS HELP!!!!
@selmirrr To get that setup I would advise giving us a call to get help at 1-800-709-1345 and we can help you to get that setup. However it kind of sounds like your computer is going into a Projector Only mode automatically, which in most cases can be fixed by hitting the Fn + (Corresponding Function Key) to take from from Project Only, to Mirror or Extended mode.
@wrestlemaniacv1 Yes, this will work on any tv that has either S-Video or Composite RCA. (those are the Yellow, Red, and White inputs) Note: this unit will only use the Yellow Composite RCA and won't use the Red and White for audio.
I've got an ATI Radeon 5970 that has 2x DVI and Mini Display Port. If I use this Mini DP/HDMI Converter to connect my PC to my TV, would it transfer VIDEO and AUDIO?
@matixitam That depends on how the video card mfg designed the card. Mini DisplayPort has the option of carrying audio, but the board manufacturer (Like MSI, BFG, Gigabyte etc.) would have to include an audio controller on the card as well.
@drumalarm234 Yes, that is the typical setup for this item. You can also set your computers to Duplicate Display mode to mirror exactly what shows on your primary display on your secondary monitor.
@sewelldirect Or you can just do extend display and it will show your desktop without anything on it on the TV and then if you move your mouse over to the right of laptop screen and push it too far then the mouse will appear on the TV. You can also literally just drag windows from the laptop/PC(plastic cock) over to the TV/ projector image/screen.
@ccrogers15 In most cases a cable like that will not work. A standard break out cable from VGA to RCA is only compatible with a TV or Projector if it specifically states that it can, in most cases it only works with projectors that support this kind of cable.
Hi. Are there any lags on TV? Can I use tv as my only monitor (without normal PC monitor)? I want to connect a cheap LCD monitor with A/V in with a PC in my car.
@anonim001 Their should not be any lag in the video as it is just converting down to a different type of video. As for not having a monitor for the computer and only using the TV, this is possible because it will work just like a normal VGA output.
@MySlayerboy7879 Yes, this product, the SW-22050, is designed to convert the modern standard VGA output from PCs to the legacy standard input RCA to televisions.
i have french tv called thomson.its a HD ready.it have 2 hdmi but i havent used that cause i dont have hdmi port in my hp 2140.anyway,i am trying to connect my pc through VGA - .3RCA cable.but im unable to connect with my tv set.it doesnt show any sign on connection.i dont know what the problem.is hp mini 2140 not good enough to connect with tv. or can i use VGA -hdmi cable ?
@anurak19 Its not usally the computer, in most cases a VGA to RCA direct cable rarely works because they are designed for projectors in most cases. To get a VGA to convert to just about any connection you actually need an active converter to get it over. There are VGA to RCA converters, as well as VGA to HDMI converters.
I have and older tv sony trinitron and I did everything but it gives me an image that keeps moving and its blured or with scraches, the vga cable its ok and its not missing any of its neddles, so wut do u think its the problem?
@chsicka It sounds like you have the monitor set to the wrong output resolution. We have a list of supported resolutions online, you can find them under the Specifications tab of whichever PC to TV converter you have.
@squeakmo1 Yes, this does work with windows 7, as far as the side, the computer will connect via VGA to the right side of the converter (side with the logo) then into the TV with standard RCA cables.
@sewelldirect I am doing this on my Windows 7 laptop and it is coming up on my TV screen so it definitely works. My TV is non HD but it still has a pretty good picture quality
A quick question: I have a desktop PC that has VGA, DVI and HDMI outputs (from a Radeon HD 5450 card) and I wish to connect it to a DVD recorder (Panasonic) that has only SCART and S-Video inputs (plus a firewire that only works with Panasonic camcorders).
What conversion (and device) will give the best picture (VGA to SCART, VGA to S-Video; DVI to SCART, DVI to S-Video; HDMI to SCART, HDMI to S-Video)
@sewelldirect by the way...little confused here..this device can be use for to just watch videos on analog tv..or connected tv can be used as a big computer monitor as well?please let me know.thank you.
@willywonka58 This converter converts your VGA signal to RCA analog, which turns your TV essentially into an additional monitor, so if you watch for example YouTube on your computer, you can then watch it also on your TV. So whatever you can do or see on your Computer screen you can also see and do on your TV.
@WillisAwesome2400 Absolutely. If you have a VGA connection on your TV, a direct VGA connection will always give you better quality. These converters are for SDTVs and other TVs that do not have VGA inputs.
i already tried an s-video cable and an audio/video (hdmi) cable and still no success. your explanation is too much complicated from other youtube help media. my laptop is an LG and my TV is local brand. hope you can help. eleven1151@yahoo.com
@SparkStudios100 Our SW-22291 works essentially the opposite of this, and will let you connect an RCA source like a dvd player to a computer monitor. If you are using a laptop it gets more complicated and you might need something like the SW-4242
Would this work with an Xbox 360? It currently puts out video through a VGA Cable, if i wanted to convert that into composite video, would this product allow me to do that. Or will this only work for PC's.?
@GamersExposed It would take a VGA signal from about any device but the USB cable needs to be plugged in to get power to the device. And the screen resolution needs to be set to 1024x768 or 800x600. To be honest, I'm not sure if an XBox 360 can display resolutions that low.
hey i was wondering... i have a ps3 and it has a scart cable for it to connect to a TV.. BUT if get a scart to VGA converter and use it to connect it to my laptop... would i be able to use my laptop screen as a TV display?
i have seen some vids on youtube on how to play games on your pc screen but they look so damn looooong
@GigantGatlingGun I'm afraid that won't work. This converts VGA to composite, not ehe other way around. In order for that to work you would need a different converter and your computer would have to allow you to use the VGA port as an input. I'm not familiar with any popular laptop models that let you use the laptop screen as a display for an external source.
@smithramos2 It sounds like your computer is having an issue switching between the onboard speakers and the HDMI audio. Contact your computer manufacturer, they may have updated drivers etc. that will fix the issue.
Hi.can anyone help me out. im having a LG HDTV LF15 series and im trying to connect my pc through VGA cable but im having a problem. i cant get an input option through my menu in TV so i cant select the PC/VGA input option..there is a VGA cable support in my TV and ive read the booklet to make sure i can connect my pc to it too but were the hell PC input option has gone from the menu?? plz plz plz plz do help me
@khaqansaleemchanner Your TV may not be getting a signal from your computer. This means that you should try outputting a signal through your VGA port on the computer first. Set your computer to a resolution that your TV supports (check the TV Manual) and then send a signal. Follow the instructions in the link in the comments
@sewelldirect well...thanks man i did what you said but i was still getting no signal error..then i came to know from the dealer i purchsed my tv,that its software doesnt supports direct VGA display..so he recommended me to use HDMI cable..not im using HDMI display to have fun playing COD4 multiplayer on the large screen :))
@j2227t To get the best picture, you would set the screen resolution to 1024x768 on your computer. Then on the converter, press menu, go to Flick, and press to the right until you see the image "snap" into a clearer image. You can do the same for sharpness under the menu. Feel free to contact us at 800-709-1345 for more tech support
@apples77 Make sure that the adapter is powered (through USB) and that the computer is outputting a supported resolution. If you are still having troubles you can contact our support department with your order number (801 356-3823) and they can help you troubleshoot the problems.
Please help. I have a Sony VAIO Laptop running Windows Vista. I connected everything , but I only see the blue background with the name VAIO. None of my desktop icons are showing up. In other words, nothing I see on the laptop shows up on the tv. Only VAIO shows up.
@MusicLovingLady2006 It sounds like your computer is running in extended mode. If you move your mouse all the way to the right of the laptop screen, it should move over onto the TV. You can use it like that and simply drag windows onto the TV while leaving your icons and other applications on the laptop screen.
@MusicLovingLady2006 You can also set your laptop to Mirror Mode that will show your desktop and icons on both screens simultaneously. Try cycling through different display options (using the Fn Keyboard combination or contact Sony for assistance.
@Acidsplasher Some games will automatically adjust the resolution settings on your computer. Go into the game settings and make sure that it is set to play at a supported resolution. (1024 x 768 is recommended)
Your awesome! I was about to throw the converter in the trash since it didn't want to work. Didn't figure out that I has to press some keys in order to watch the it on my TV. XD Thanks alot you been a great help.

Theredbullrampage 9 months ago
@Theredbullrampage or some kind of large sound system can make the sound quality a lot better though.

He people!! I have problem with my tv to pc converter. IT IS NOT WORKING, I'have connected everything but there is no picture on the tv. I dont know what to do.
When I hoke up everything, there is only some kind of interference and my laptop desktop goes off when I hoke up everything.
IF SOMEBODY COULD HELP ME, I WOULD ALSO MAKE A VIDEO AND PUT IT ON YOUTUBE, SO THAT HE COULD ACTUALLY SEE, EVERYTHING...PLS HELP!!!!
selmirrr 9 months ago
@selmirrr To get that setup I would advise giving us a call to get help at 1-800-709-1345 and we can help you to get that setup. However it kind of sounds like your computer is going into a Projector Only mode automatically, which in most cases can be fixed by hitting the Fn + (Corresponding Function Key) to take from from Project Only, to Mirror or Extended mode.

will this work on any kind of tv? both my tv's have that composite slot of course, but one is RCA, but will it work on any tv?
wrestlemaniacv1 9 months ago
@wrestlemaniacv1 Yes, this will work on any tv that has either S-Video or Composite RCA. (those are the Yellow, Red, and White inputs) Note: this unit will only use the Yellow Composite RCA and won't use the Red and White for audio.

I've got an ATI Radeon 5970 that has 2x DVI and Mini Display Port. If I use this Mini DP/HDMI Converter to connect my PC to my TV, would it transfer VIDEO and AUDIO?
Thanks :)
matixitam 10 months ago
@matixitam That depends on how the video card mfg designed the card. Mini DisplayPort has the option of carrying audio, but the board manufacturer (Like MSI, BFG, Gigabyte etc.) would have to include an audio controller on the card as well.

Can I scroll my mouse to the tv from my laptop.. like a third monitor??
drumalarm234 10 months ago
@drumalarm234 Yes, that is the typical setup for this item. You can also set your computers to Duplicate Display mode to mirror exactly what shows on your primary display on your secondary monitor.
sewelldirect 10 months ago
@sewelldirect Or you can just do extend display and it will show your desktop without anything on it on the TV and then if you move your mouse over to the right of laptop screen and push it too far then the mouse will appear on the TV. You can also literally just drag windows from the laptop/PC(plastic cock) over to the TV/ projector image/screen.
Theredbullrampage 9 months ago
@ccrogers15 In most cases a cable like that will not work. A standard break out cable from VGA to RCA is only compatible with a TV or Projector if it specifically states that it can, in most cases it only works with projectors that support this kind of cable.

Hi. Are there any lags on TV? Can I use tv as my only monitor (without normal PC monitor)? I want to connect a cheap LCD monitor with A/V in with a PC in my car.
anonim001 10 months ago
@anonim001 Their should not be any lag in the video as it is just converting down to a different type of video. As for not having a monitor for the computer and only using the TV, this is possible because it will work just like a normal VGA output.

anurak19 10 months ago
@anurak19 Its not usally the computer, in most cases a VGA to RCA direct cable rarely works because they are designed for projectors in most cases. To get a VGA to convert to just about any connection you actually need an active converter to get it over. There are VGA to RCA converters, as well as VGA to HDMI converters.
sewelldirect 10 months ago
I have and older tv sony trinitron and I did everything but it gives me an image that keeps moving and its blured or with scraches, the vga cable its ok and its not missing any of its neddles, so wut do u think its the problem?
chsicka 11 months ago
@chsicka It sounds like you have the monitor set to the wrong output resolution. We have a list of supported resolutions online, you can find them under the Specifications tab of whichever PC to TV converter you have.

squeakmo1 11 months ago
@squeakmo1 Yes, this does work with windows 7, as far as the side, the computer will connect via VGA to the right side of the converter (side with the logo) then into the TV with standard RCA cables.
sewelldirect 11 months ago
@sewelldirect I am doing this on my Windows 7 laptop and it is coming up on my TV screen so it definitely works. My TV is non HD but it still has a pretty good picture quality

Dear Sir,
A quick question: I have a desktop PC that has VGA, DVI and HDMI outputs (from a Radeon HD 5450 card) and I wish to connect it to a DVD recorder (Panasonic) that has only SCART and S-Video inputs (plus a firewire that only works with Panasonic camcorders).
What conversion (and device) will give the best picture (VGA to SCART, VGA to S-Video; DVI to SCART, DVI to S-Video; HDMI to SCART, HDMI to S-Video)
Thank you in anticipation

willywonka58 1 year ago
@willywonka58 Yes, this specifically is a analog converter. The TV that we are using in the Video is inputting via analog RCA conversions.
sewelldirect 1 year ago
@sewelldirect Thank you very much.i am planning to buy this as i am getting a new pc as gift for my living room where my tv is.thanks again.
willywonka58 1 year ago
@sewelldirect by the way...little confused here..this device can be use for to just watch videos on analog tv..or connected tv can be used as a big computer monitor as well?please let me know.thank you.
willywonka58 1 year ago
@willywonka58 This converter converts your VGA signal to RCA analog, which turns your TV essentially into an additional monitor, so if you watch for example YouTube on your computer, you can then watch it also on your TV. So whatever you can do or see on your Computer screen you can also see and do on your TV.

I Just Use The VGA Cables But It Won't Work! I Don't Have That Stuff!
TheLlewe 1 year ago
I COULD do this, or I could just hook my VGA and Audio cables directly from my PC to my TV, which is what I always do.
WillisAwesome2400 1 year ago
@WillisAwesome2400 Absolutely. If you have a VGA connection on your TV, a direct VGA connection will always give you better quality. These converters are for SDTVs and other TVs that do not have VGA inputs.

SparkStudios100 1 year ago
@SparkStudios100 Our SW-22291 works essentially the opposite of this, and will let you connect an RCA source like a dvd player to a computer monitor. If you are using a laptop it gets more complicated and you might need something like the SW-4242

Would this work with an Xbox 360? It currently puts out video through a VGA Cable, if i wanted to convert that into composite video, would this product allow me to do that. Or will this only work for PC's.?
GamersExposed 1 year ago
@GamersExposed It would take a VGA signal from about any device but the USB cable needs to be plugged in to get power to the device. And the screen resolution needs to be set to 1024x768 or 800x600. To be honest, I'm not sure if an XBox 360 can display resolutions that low.
sewelldirect 1 year ago
hey i was wondering... i have a ps3 and it has a scart cable for it to connect to a TV.. BUT if get a scart to VGA converter and use it to connect it to my laptop... would i be able to use my laptop screen as a TV display?
i have seen some vids on youtube on how to play games on your pc screen but they look so damn looooong
thank you ^_^
GigantGatlingGun 1 year ago
@GigantGatlingGun I'm afraid that won't work. This converts VGA to composite, not ehe other way around. In order for that to work you would need a different converter and your computer would have to allow you to use the VGA port as an input. I'm not familiar with any popular laptop models that let you use the laptop screen as a display for an external source.

khaqansaleemchanner 1 year ago
@khaqansaleemchanner Your TV may not be getting a signal from your computer. This means that you should try outputting a signal through your VGA port on the computer first. Set your computer to a resolution that your TV supports (check the TV Manual) and then send a signal. Follow the instructions in the link in the comments
sewelldirect 1 year ago
@sewelldirect well...thanks man i did what you said but i was still getting no signal error..then i came to know from the dealer i purchsed my tv,that its software doesnt supports direct VGA display..so he recommended me to use HDMI cable..not im using HDMI display to have fun playing COD4 multiplayer on the large screen :))

@j2227t To get the best picture, you would set the screen resolution to 1024x768 on your computer. Then on the converter, press menu, go to Flick, and press to the right until you see the image "snap" into a clearer image. You can do the same for sharpness under the menu. MusicLovingLady2006 1 year ago
@MusicLovingLady2006 It sounds like your computer is running in extended mode. If you move your mouse all the way to the right of the laptop screen, it should move over onto the TV. You can use it like that and simply drag windows onto the TV while leaving your icons and other applications on the laptop screen.
sewelldirect 1 year ago
@MusicLovingLady2006 You can also set your laptop to Mirror Mode that will show your desktop and icons on both screens simultaneously. Try cycling through different display options (using the Fn Keyboard combination or contact Sony for assistance.
