I got a 91 S-10 with the 2.8 in it...227K and still can spin the 225/60/16's that are on it..5 speed of course. I had a mid 80's Camaro rear end put in . I'll drive this bitch till the engine blows and then it'll be time for a V-8 swap..heel yeah!
These fuckers never die. I have 207k on my 2.5L 92 sten. I've had to put a clutch in it from side-steppin that bitch, but no problems with the mill. Mine sounds like a diesel from all the piston slap and knocks, but hey, eattin civics, shitting preludes!

could be the same block, Mercruiser did use the 2.5L GM block for their 3.0L i am currently trying to put the 3.0L mercruiser crankshaft into the 2.5L block out of my s10, makes a stroker =]
we have on with over 300k on it...one head gasket and new valvesprings...runs great...burns NO oil...i can get both tires in 2nd...runs good for a 4knocker...and i dont even like chevys!!!
The air cleaner lid flips over and still seals on the filter. You really hear the throttle open up then. (Flip lid over, and use stock wing nuts to secure.)
hahahaha just cant beat thos good ole 2.5 iron dukes i had an 89 s10 fuelinjected model ran like a champ had a lot of pep was automatic tho. mine made the same exaact ticking noise i later found out it was the fly wheel bolts the bolts that mounted the flywheel to the crank then came lose and even sheared the heads off the bolts so check those bolts out might just fix the ticking noise and also check the belt tensioner they r know tho make the same ticking sound
i had to drop one in my 89 S10 these past few days and man it is a bitch. power steering ac car. takes up a shit load of room. the ac box is in the way of everything. and wiring was a pain. i might get it started tomarro. last motor had 208625 miles when it blew thisns got 117k. WOOHOO
sweet i acutally had to pull out my 108,000 2.5 and drop in a 250,000 one temporaly because of a small nock, i think its timing. still runs great with the new motor lol. its pretty easy in a truck.
I ended up pulling the 250000mi one out at 270000 with a rod nock from hell n putting the 108000mi one back in, runs great now, had to put a new distributor in it 3 out of 4 reluctors were busted off it was only running with the pedal to the floor.
Dude the knocking might be comeing frome the vlaves try adjusting them my s10 2.8 will make the same noise when the valves are out of line and mine a 1984 2.8 carb motor
yea, we narrowed it down, its either play in the timing gears, or piston slap, the #4 cylinder dosnt have good compression at all, so kinda leaning twards piston slap, if it was a rod nock it would be dead by now for sure. And yea, i have a 2.5 that started ticking loud, tightend up the rockers and it quit, mines pulling the stud out of the head.
