It could probably stop within the distance and takeoff too. The problem I could see is the mud and it sustaining the weight of an aircraft like a C-17. I could easily see it get stuck in a place like that.
So I guess that means no ILS? Great video, enjoyed every second of it. The D8A is a great aircraft, very rugged, can fly in terrible field and weather conditions.
@bolnalamo : They even operated or are still operating B-727 from grass strips in Florida, Mexico and some african regions. Best regards, Thomas Godehus, Germany
heavy traffic out of this area, heard that the kid that did some controlling at jfk might get hired here, again this is just speculation so dont quote me...also i hear they are expanding the terminal since they have exceeded their maximum passanger capacity oh yeah and the most exciting thing, they are getting 2 starbucks, one next to that tree and another one right across it. lol jk good video
does the plane have special landing gears or something or can any DASH-8 (or smaller plane) do this? Do you have to get the "off road" package? Can a typical small plane land in the rough without damage?
Yea, Thats 1 of the many bigger advantages Turbo-prop Airliners have over Turbo-fan. Turbo-fan airliners may fly much higher & much faster but they can only land on tarmac with sophisticated ILS approach systems & bright runway lights. Dash-8's are like 4x4's if you like, they can fly-in on rough make-shift runways with no landing assistance whatsoever. They can land on runways so rough that most Front-wheel drive cars would even get stuck if they drove along it, let alone an entire plane!
I don't fancy this sort of landing at all. Just looks too unpredictable to be safe. Probably is ok but I'll give it a miss and take my chances with tarmac and concrete instead :)
Can a C-17 make it there?

Dash 8's are great but I'll take a Dash 7 for my STOL needs, thank you.

Careful with the reverse there! Na..just not too much into beta or you'll start pickin' up some crap with the props. ha ah.
Mind if I ask what company? Knew a bunch of people who operated Dash's in the Congo for a while. Not the Frenchies.

The Dash-8's heritage goes back to the DeHavilland Beaver, the ultimate bush plane.

Wow, you really get the sense of speed when looking at this landing. Most tarmac runways are so wide it looks like you are flooting at 60km/h
